I know that most of the black community has normalized the concept of physical punishment, but i don't think it should be taken to the point where you're literally making your kid cry out like you're murdering them. I don't care what anyone says, i am black myself, and i can't do that to my kid. And why is it only two options for y’all when it comes to disciplining children. It’s either talking or full on physical abuse. Very extreme or very light punishment doesn’t work like taking away electronics and privileges or explaining why they are not allowed to do certain things or trying to compromise on the things they want to do that could be dangerous and figuring out a safer and more child appropriate option so that you and the child get what you both want. It’s like these black parents can’t get over the fact that these children aren’t objects and aren’t owned, they are future adults. What is you beating them going to show them is that they should be afraid of only the people who beat them. And when people are under constant fear from a “leader” figure that fear turns into hatred,violence and secrecy. You should have a relationship based off respect and trust with your children but how are your children going to trust you when you crucify their mistakes and you don’t have the capacity to try and understand their actions and act accordingly. Your children are not an extension of you they are an entirely different person and should be treated as a person and not property.
