  • This is a really incredible State of Mind. Jon Lindstrom is a very private person, but he opens up about his soul. We talk about depression, music, acting, and just about everything. Very very powerful.

Maurice and Jon: We're a family who has watched GH since April 1, 1963. Down through the years the elder members have passed on and younger ones have joined our group of GH watchers. You're in our homes 5 days a week and we love you. Some of us are genetically predisposed to anxiety and panic disorder. Several years ago, my nephew, who was bi-polar, died the same way as Jon's grandfather. Faith in God has brought us through many dark days and nights. Between November 6th and Christmas day 2023, 7 family members made Heaven their home; none were suicide. For me (the writer), the anxiety has been constant. To battle and overcome the anxiety, I sing, give lots of hugs and take it one hour, one day at a time. Watching General Hospital, listening to and watching State of Mind, is always a blessing.

I talked to a neighbor just this morning with Parkinson's disease who told me he had a plan to end his life. I talked to him and I really believe I helped him just by taking and listening. His wife has dementia so she can't help, but he was in a very bad place. Talking is incredibly important! Don't hold back-open up and talk!

Everyone has a different kind of journey thru the darkness and it helps to hear people's experience to gain understanding and being able to relate to others in their journey. I'm going thru this right now. It's good to hear that you can be on it for a period of time and then get off, because that's what I'm trying to do now. Thank you! for the encouragement. Thank you for being so open about something so hard to talk about.... When I see the emotions that you expressed talking about depression, it has that same effect on me I become emotional , you think you won't , but the thought of it gets me every time..I wouldn't wish depression on someone I hated.. It's so dark ..The feeling of hopelessness is beyond anything I've ever felt.

Many of my friends at NYU studied at the Strasberg studio and hated it, too. 😂😂😂
Other friends studied with Stella Adler. They had to stand and applaud every time she entered and left the room. And also HAD to call her "Miss Adler".
(And, apparently, Stella Adler and Marlon Brando had more than a student/teacher relationship.)
She was, however, an amazing teacher.
Thank you for your openness and your statement about suicidal thoughts. At the time it really does feel like the best option for everyone.

Excellent interview! Jon's story about his history with depression and potential suicide was so moving and realistic. The family history of suicide and how it can run in the family is very true, and that is why it is important to share that history to make sure that it doesn’t repeat and youth can learn from it.
Also, Jon's personality is SO interesting and engaging in ways very different from Kevin Collins. I keep saying this after watching these interviews with GH actors here: the writers need to inject the vibrance of the actors' real personalities into their characters.

JON LINDSTROM - I feel your pain. Rough times for those of us who suffer. I cry all day long, sit in sunshine, suffer alone. For me it's the time of year and not being able to shut my mind off. You are a wonderful person for sharing your private self. I love watching you on screen, I live for my GH at night I watch on HULU. I follow Maurice because of his unique conversations with his peers. Your candor was refreshing. I am in Maine, I have been a viewer since the beginning. You are an amazing actor. Playing two roles must have been demanding. Hang in there, I will respond if you want to share the horrors of hiding deep depression. Or just talk...please know that you have been a great source of entertainment in my lonely world.

I would watch Jon everytime to see if he messed up playing the twins. I am happy to report that this guy played or portrayed two different people. It was maddening at times. Kudos to Mr Lindstrom. I love State of Mind. Thank you Mr Benard.

This was fantastic! Thanks for what you do, Maurice. Mental health and all aspects of it are definitely something that needs more light shed on. I've struggled with anxiety and depression since I was a teenager and just knowing that other people deal with these issues really helps. Thanks again 😊 ❤

In an anxious episode, it's hard to ground or breathe fully. Everything's like racing on hamster wheels and you're floating and then being torn in many different directions. Hugs to both of you. Coming out of these things isn't always quick and never easy. You're not alone no matter how desperately the lying depression or anxiety tries to convince you.
