You are such a gifted teacher. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with learners!
Thank you again for being very clear in explaining, even to a Total Beginner like me who didn't even know what a Welt was or a Bias.. I understand the importance cant wait to see final Project
Just found your channel. I’m loving it. I make quilts and I’m finding ideas that work for me. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise. Love the dog, too!
Thank you! And thanks for watching 🙂
Yes u are sure right they are unsure as well an when u dont no after u buy u are just stock with so much an u dont use as much what they sell u thanks for that info an thanks a million for teaching us .
Enjoying all of your videos. This one was helpful in determining welt; however, there wasn't an explanation on the direction to cut the fabric after cutting on the fold. Do you cut strips on the diagonal or straight up and down?
@@mtnbkgirl On the diagonal :)
@@ASquarePillowIsntSquareThank you so much for the rapid response.
Another clearly explained video. I just discovered your channel yesterday, have already watched five videos and know I will be back for more. Your tips are so helpful. Clearly you've done this a few times. :-)
Welcome! Thank you for the kind words!
Comprehensive explanation, thank you so much!
Love this video! Thank you!
How do you actually cut the welt strips? I am confused you said the top part folded over you take away but I thought that is what you actually use and then cut into the strips? Is there a tutorial that shows how to cut the welt strips on the bias I only could find the other video that you made it from a square to get the 23 yards of welting.
I"m sorry this was confusing! So what you do is fold the fabric on the bias, slide your scissors between the layers and cut right on the fold line, so now when you take away the small triangle you have your big piece of fabric left with a long diagonal cut. Now just make marks parallel to the cut line in 2 or 3 spots along the cut in whatever width strips you need, usually about 2", draw the lines and cut the strips. Does this help?
Is the length of Welt required the circumference of the poster?
I’m sorry I don’t understand the question. Can you try reposting?
What to do with have fabric with NO stretch like suede like I do. Do i still have to cut it on the bias?
None of my drapery fabrics have stretch, that’s why it’s important to cut the strips on the bias. Even suede will stretch on the bias. So if you want your welt to bend nicely around corners then always cut woven goods on the bias.
I am doing a reupholstering project on an ottoman, I cut my welt cord too short… can I join my welt cord together by using duct tape or painters tape and then keep going…. I have enough to fabric but not sure how I managed to cut the welt cord (plastic) too short
Yes! You can join it with masking tape. Sometimes to make a subtle join I’ll cut both ends on an angle instead of straight across, then overlap the angled ends to line up, tape securely, and keep going :)
@@ASquarePillowIsntSquare oh thank goodness! And so good to know! Thank you very much for the quick reply! I’m anxious to see your video on your cutting / ironing table
👏
Everything was really clear in this video except you didn’t instruct an actually how to determine how much fabric is needed for the length of wealth in a project?
I believe I did post a chart in the video that shows how much welt you can get from varying amounts of fabric. Did you see it?
@@ASquarePillowIsntSquare I also would like to know how much fabric to buy. I need about 90 inches to do a 16x26 pillow. I did not see a chart in the video.
I have to say I love your videos! I’ve learned so much about making pillows. 11:56
Also what size was the cording you used in the video? 0:03
@@barbaraadams3105 It just depends how many seams you want. You can use a full width true diagonal which will give you about 72” so you only need 1.5 strips but that’s 1.5 yds of fabric! If the welt is from the same fabric as the pillow you can cut that diagonal and fit the front and back on either side of it. Otherwise for just one pillow you can use as little as you want but you’ll have lots of seams. If you’re making a lot of bias I have a video on a fabric saving trick.
@@ASquarePillowIsntSquare what was the size of the welt cording you used sin the video?
