I wish there was a modern day simulator where we could captain all these modern cruise liners. I guess the demand for a ship games these days is just not high enough

There is! In fact there are so many types of ships that you can command in that simulator that includes engine control room and engine room interaction/intervention.. The problem is you can only find this in training centers for seafarers..

Technology, design, and protocol certainly makes it near impossible for something that size to sink, but all it would take is an incompetent crew, a serious design flaw, or something going wrong at the absolute worst time and we'd have another Titanic on our hands

I watched the Icon of the Seas departing from Meyers dock not too long ago. If this would happen at any point, i have pictures that will benefit historians in the future.
That's a pretty cool video but *Just let me geek out a little* that is a WW2 Liberty freighter, which is several times smaller than the Icon. I'n this scenario both ships would probably remain afloat as a hull breach that far in the stern is unlikely to be a fatal blow, at most ruining the starboard powerplant
Not to mention Liberty ships were quite tough for their construction.
The hit might take out Icon’s generators though, which would be a death sentence.

@@user-yv8yi2bj8e u have no clue mate, these cruise ships are made of steel, aluminum. titanic and ocean liners from past were made from iron and steel, much more stronger than ships of today. titanic could stay afloat with 4 compartments flooded, the cruise ships cant. if 2 of em were flooded the cruise ships r toast. u think just cause these things r huge , therefore they r safer. lmfao. the ships of today are more safer than ocean liners of past not cause of hull strength. but more advanced radio system. access to weather forecast. advanced rader systems.

Neither ship would sink after this collision, as it would breach at most one or two watertight compartments in each vessel. That's not enough to sink either one.
Why did the freighter sink? It looked like the collision only breeched her forward most bulkead, alloing her to remain afloat, similar to SS Stockholm.

Just to inform the faint hearted. Even though it would have happened, that is practically impossible. All the ships today are divided in watertight compartments and able to float with 4 of them flooded. So icon of the sea will never sink for a aft collision.😂

@@excitablepack7076 you'd have to either breach several compartments, or else contrive a scenario from water to get from one to the next internally. Obviously it's not *strictly* impossible, but it is massively improbably.

@@jamworthy14 the victory ship has five watertight sections, only the forward-most of which *might* be breached in this collision. I don't know what the watertight configuration on Icon is, but it seems likely this collision would have only *at most* flooded one or two compartments near the stern of the ship.

I made a story in my mind called Symphony of the seas
It was about the sinking of Royal Caribbean International’s luxury cruise ship, Symphony of the seas!
In my story she collided with a rouge wave and capsized then 5 hours later it was 5:00 AM on New Year’s Day and she completely sunk in the North Atlantic Ocean!
It was inspired by Poseidon 2006!
I also made a story about Icon of the seas but in my story she hit an iceberg and sank!
It was inspired by Titanic 1953
