I wouldn't call this an alternate version, per se. It sounds like Ozzy's just improvising to get a feel for the vocal melody. This was the first album where they started writing in the recording studio.

The bassist wrote all the words for all black sabbath

    • @SufferDYT
      @SufferDYT Год назад +3

@@davidtoddmickens5558 Yeah, this is before he did that lol. These lyrics are literal nonsense, because they are only there for the sake of feeling out the vocal lines and what syllables might sound good.
      " I know what's going on
      You people don't really know
When I fall in to your place
      What am I to do?
If you go on with your load
      Don't you ever say
Black Sabbath man with your hair so long
Didn't realise what he said "
This is meaningless babble, because they hadn't yet figured out what the meaning was going to be. It doesn't even rhyme. This is a very normal thing for songwriters to do, literally make up nonsense words to figure out what might sound good, and usually something interesting will emerge and from that they get an idea of what the song might be about. The word children seemed to stick out in this case. Ozzy would make up words just to put something to tape or to ear for geezer to then go in and write lyrics for.

Ok having listened to the song a few times now, I think this is a close estimation of the lyrics, if anyone has any suggestions, please post a reply
    Save me
    Save me
    Save me
    Save me
    Save me
    Save me
    I want you to understand
What you gotta do with me
People say they don't wanna know
What you're gonna do with me
Well I know that you just gotta go
    To the hall of misery
Please don't start playing with my soul
    Let my soul go free
    Yeah!
Now I sit here on my own looking in the sky at night
Then I see a silver star come down and take me for a ride
Then I look into your face, what do I seek for redemption
Then you know your children too will go there with redemption
    Save me
    Save me
    Save me
    Save me
And I know what's going on
    You people don't really know
When I fall in to your place
    What am I to do?

I always loved the original version, but this demo is pretty top notch. Now all we need is a video that shows the actual lyrics. I see some tried to decipher the lyrics phonetically, and it's probably very very close, but I know I'm not alone in wanting to know the actual lyrics to this version.

@@domdonofrio7974 Impressive. I assume you have your sources. I first heard Sabbath around '76 (always late to the party!). Maybe you know the answer to MANY (semi friendly) dust ups we had over Vol. 4. Who is that on the front cover? EVERYONE says Ozzy, (just like they all want to believe Ozzy wrote all of the lyrics) but since when did Ozzy have a nose like that? (I say it's Geezer). What do you say?

@@meetontheledge1380 Absolutely Ozzy on the cover. There used to be a show called Behind the music remastered. It featured Sabbath twice. @@domdonofrio7974 Thanks for the response. I am also shocked he wrote The Writ! I've seen the footage where Butler made the statement you reference. I've always wondered about the cover, but all sources say it is Ozzy (which clears me to spend $25 on a cheap t-shirt on Amazon that has the Vol 4 cover- not that I wouldn't be proud of a picture of any of them!). Impossible to name (less than) a top 30 of Sabbath, but Tomorrow's Dream, Supernaut and Snowblind would be there

This must be one that Ozzy wrote the lyrics to. They said he was really good at coming up with a melody for their songs making up some words on the go. Then Geezer would be the one who would come up with the classic lyrics we all know.
