Update: these planes aren't new they just finally got imported to the US. Also these are intended to be job site planes. Hit a nail throw the blade away. Imo I'd much prefer the Jorgensen for the jobsite. Buy 2 or 3 irons for it in case you hit a nail and it's cheeper than this plane and operates way better than this plane. Plus your irons will last longer. 😂
I can follow your thoughts. And also agree to almost all of it. However, I come to a different conclusion. I own this exactly plane. And the Block Plane and Rabbet Plane from Rali to. My main user Planes are Lie Nielsen, Veritas, Vintage Stanley and Vintage Ulmia. As you can see I have a quiet nice and also not cheap portfolio of planes. And this is exactly where this plane fits in my collection: I never touch MDF, plywood or similar materials with my premium planes. But from time to time I need a plane to adjust an MDF pattern, cut a champfer on plywood or similar. This is the time where I like to use my Rali. You can't compare this plane to a well tuned Stanley or Lie Nielsen, but I do not use it for the same purpose. Therefor I would not miss it.
This is a very good point. I could see where I would be handy to have one of these for mdf, ply, and even particle board so ur not taking your nice planes to that material. Thank you for sharing!

The Rali isn't for the shop. It's for (finish) carpenters on construction sites. That explains the material choice and replaceable blades...
I so want to like those planes. This is not the first time I’ve seen a review of this plane, and with the same issues pointed out. I love innovation, if it works. My struggle with the Bailey style plane is getting better, as I’ve never found anything that works better. That being said, I hope they can keep trying. A sharpenable blade that is held in a more sturdy fashion with a better adjustment mechanism. …..well, at that point it’s a whole different plane….*sigh*
100% agree with you hear. I WANT innovation but the Baley and Norris style planes are tested and have help their ground I'm not sure anything will get better than that. Maybe one day but who knows!!!
there are also blades made out of "hartmetall" hmm is it carbide or something dont know sorry im from germany ;) and these harder blades you can use on Wood plastic and aluminum so its really a jobsite hard use plane where you dont want to use your good planes :). i have the RALI 105 Monobloc at hobby use and it is cool what you can do with it
I could see this being useful if you wanted a plane to take to a jobsite, something you can throw in the tool bag and not worry if it takes a beating, or if you hit a nail and have to trash an iron. But do people even use planes on jobsites anymore? I doubt it.
That is very true but I think I'd prefer the Jorgensen for the job site. It's cheeper and better than this one. It could prob take a better beating than the Rali. But you have a good point about the irons. Hit a nail throw the blade away vs having to grind the iron back! Thank you!!
This planes have been around for over 40 years now and they are more like a "jobsite" plane which will keep you working all day because u can switch the iron in like 10 seconds
I do like the idea behind that but I would prefer the Jorgensen and maybe get 2 or 3 irons for it. It would still be cheeper than this plane and it will function better. Its also more durable than this one :(
Ever get the feeling these new "innovative" planes were designed by people who have never used a plane before and can only guess how they are supposed to work?
To be clear, Rali has been around for decades and this plane has been available since the 80’s. You probably knew that but some people seem to think these are new because of recent coverage by James Wright and Rex Kruger.
Expensive plastic, similar to the Ulmia Alu plane you reviewed. So the innovation for sake of innovation without looking how it performs is not innovation but step backwards. Also looks cheap,😔 for the price they asking. Thanks for your tool reviews

Thank for sharing and giving your honest opinion.
Thank you for getting to the point of "no don't buy it" at the beginning. Appreciate all the reasons after the conclusion
Thank you!!!

I love my Rali planes, yes you can sharpen the blades, the carbide blades last a very long time.
Thank you for sharing! It is good for people to see!
I would never be interested in a plane like that.
Thank you for the excellent review Jamie!
Thank you!! And same ish LOL I would have loved for one of these razor planes to actually work but... NOPE haha
Yeah, they had some good ideas there, but... Thank you, but no, thank you. 😬
Anyway, thanks for the review!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Right! I wish they could have pulled them off. It would have been cool!!
Thank you! You too!!

When tech bros make hand planes. Looks good in the ads, but so did Ford Pintos.
At least this plane doesn't explode? But that would make it more fun unlike the Pintos hahaha
It doesn’t even look good. The large handle looks like that is where your dominant hand should be placed to push but no it’s backwards
Well Jamie guess we better hold on to the old stuff the future is not looking good haha!
Haha I will hold out hope!!!! But not for razor planes hahaha

great point about the plastic and aluminum!
just tried one of these. Hated it.
Haha sorry!!!!

Garbage. It gives me great pleasure seeing you give this as scathing a review as it deserves
Hahah you will like the video tomorrow too I think!

Oooh I didn't know that. The same one since the 80s?! Razor blade plane? Thays crazy! Deff going to look into that. Thank you!!

Both are not meant to be used in a tidy shop...
I fully agree! And thank you!!!
