He decided to use his platform to speak up against police brutality and cops getting away with murder. I applaud him for that and the NFL should have put morality above money and backed his stance. No. Check your facts. He signed a 6 year $126 mil contract with 13 mil guaranteed at the start of the 2014-15 season. And although he threw 3000 yards a second year in a row, the 49ers went 8-8 and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2010. Under Harbaugh, who started him over Alex Smith to begin with. Harbaugh went back to college. The next year, 2015-16 under the new coach Tomsula. Kap got benched in week 8 after his team lost 27-6 to the rams, and sat at 2-6. Kapernick threw 162 yards no touchdown. A week after throwing 124 yards, no touchdown against the Seahawks who the 49ers also lost to. This is not to mention the fact earlier that season he threw 67 yards against the Cardinals, with 4 interceptions. So basically he had shown a new coach that he couldn't even compete against teams in his own division. When the only reason he started was because of Harbaugh taking a chance on him, with HARBAUGH'S system. The next game after Kap was benched, he hurt his shoulder. And didnt play again. Then Tomsula was fired, and Chip Kelly was Hired. Before the 2016-17 season even started, Kap already wanted to be traded. His kneels didnt start until the BEGINNING of the 2016-17 season. And considering that controversy, Kap didn't start until week 6. Considering that he started 11 games, and threw 2000+ yards, the 49ers were still 1-10 with Kap to finish the season, Gabbert was 1-4, so it really made no difference if he started or not, considering all the controversy. He WASN'T PRODUCING SUCCESS. The Kneeling just made him look worse. And the season after when another new coach, Shanahan, came to town, Kap wasn't needed. Nobody lowballed him, he played ineffectively.
