Nice yarn haul! I love all the variety in fibers and colours. For socks you would actually want tougher, not as soft yarn. It will be stronger and thus last longer.
tbh i was sceard to try making socks, it was a bit hard for me to understand at first (i learned how to knit and it was my 1st project, i just really wanted socks lmao) but once you get it - it justg flows, its really fun to make

The Cassatt yarn is a blown yarn (construction). The nylon content in the yarn is the hollow net tube, then wool, alpaca, and viscose fibers are blown into that netting.

hi! tbh i don't get arm pain BUT when i crochet for too long my thumb burns like the dickens and i have to stretch it!!
Always stop when you feel pain. And do hand exercises specifically for crocheters and knitters. Remember this hobby is about longevity :)
