@@nuttychilli9177 you have to think it certainly will have long term effects. Concussions are no joke. Look at Junior Seau, Vincent Jackson, and even Philip Adams. Extreme cases, but I can’t imagine that shock he suffered won’t have some kind of lasting effect.

Dang that's crazy about the putting hands out during this,
Back in mid 90s when football was still gladiator games I was known for extreme contact, because I had severe PTSD since 2yrs of from watching my mother murdered and being trafficked for 4 years,
Football was my fight response release and being a large athletic kid I ran 4.4 220lbs and held power clean record at 285 my Jr year...
So I always went for a kill hitting you and every game for years that was the case.
One play I remember like yesterday was coming in the backfield I'm meeting a fullback on a lead block, I swim move him and I meet the tailback forehead to forehead, and I thought I blew him up, but my eyesight went black and my hearing was gone, and I was stuck standing in that position with my hands out in front of me as my vision comes back I see spots blinking everywhere and my hearing slowly comes back and the crowd is cheering loud because the back bounced off my hit and ran up the sideline for a TD,
I remember my coach was looking at me standing there like WTF just happened,
I chalked it up to maybe a concussion, I never left the game and played couple more years never having my head looked at, and always helmet to helmet was standard,
My helmet and facemask was stick marked like crazy, we use to take pride in it. Snot bubbles, decleaters, roaching a fool... They were the days.
So this kinda explains how the I felt that day... Maybe a slight concussion? Now my neck is another story, I'm almost mid 40s and a chiropractor was giving me my first alignment and my neck lmao, he asked if I was in a car accident because I have cartilage build up in my neck...
I never felt so good though getting it all cracked out OMG, but yeah my neck sounds like rice crispy treats in my head...lol

Been the the amen clinic and have pictures of my prefrontal cortex and the damaged portions as well as the back of my brain. Explained a lot with the issues I deal with since then. Unfortunately it changed a lot about me and after 14 years it's a struggle all the time, the headaches, the visions, the loss of focus. Wear helmets when riding. The fencing posture is something I’ve seen before with KO’d athletes (notably combat sports) but the seizing/muscle tonicity minutes after while being carted off genuinely has me concerned for this young man’s well-being. So you mask some initial inflammation which allows you to continue playing and taking further hits to the head. It's like icing a bad ankle and suiting up to play on a bad ankle. This is why many end up with CTE. Marijuana also kills brain cells.

Beautiful explanation and one I know Joe Buck was wishing he could deliver, but as you said he should of just left well enough alone. As an announcer I’m sure they feel like something is better than nothing to help the narrative along, but obviously tonight was a great teaching moment of when you let the professionals do the talking!

Your explanation of the thoughts behind why we think the posturing happens after an injury like this was so enlightening. It just makes me appreciate even more so how complex and sophisticated we are as human beings. Freaking cool. Sad to see this happen to someone, but learning the theories behind why the body reacts this way is fascinating. Thanks doc!

Excellent, intelligible explanation of the injury we witnessed. At first glance the contact did not appear violent enough to account for the degree of trauma he sustained, but everyone's physiology is unique, and Mr. Parham may have had characteristics predisposing him to concussive injury from less force than the norm, such as dehydration. I really hope he will not have any visual impairment from this injury.

The crazy thing is that even how the head hitting the ground looks fairly light compared to others we've seen in the past is unbelievable. Just goes to show every angle, direction and speed can result in any kind of outcome.

Many bull riders get dash boarded or slammed to the ground and "posture up.". When people haven't seen it, it's alarming.
Bell Helmets offers a proprietary design called MIPS, OR MULTI-DIRECTIONAL IMPACT PROTECTION SYSTEM, USES A SLIP PLANE DESIGNED TO MANAGE ENERGY FROM ROTATIONAL AND ANGULAR IMPACTS. It works very well 🏆🙏.

That’s a scary one man. My daughters collage had a player on the football team that had a head contact with the ground that knocked him out. He got up very quick after started to walk and collapsed again that was in September during their home coming game. That was over 3 months ago. His brain started to bleed he was in a coma for a month they relieved the pressure in his brain a few different times his brain kept hemorrhaging. Poor kid now has to relearn how to walk from that injury to the brain. I think he went through Atleast 5 surgeries from a injury that didn’t even look that bad cause he got up and walked on his own a few steps before he collapsed into a coma. I rewatched that play over and over it didn’t seem that serious until they took face mask off and his arms shook uncontrollably and they rushed him off in a ambulance. Just freak headshot man I hope this man can get back into form and it won’t be as serious as my daughters classmate. We’ve been praying for our Eureka Collage Red Devil warrior that he can regain mobility and get back to living a normal life. It’s been a long tough road for him I hope it won’t that bad for that Chargers receiver. 🙏🙏🙏

Head injury, for some of us who had it, I was hit off my motorbike by a pickup truck as a teen I landed on my head well had no helmet on, I was told while lying on my back my right leg was 2 feet off the ground stretch stiff like steel, I could hear someone ask is he dead, I could not even move my lips or eyes, what was so funny I felt no pain during that moment, I had blood coming out of my ears, because of this I can cry but no tears

Whenever I see a truly unique sports medical situation specially ones like this where a layman's assessment would be that it was a routine or benign play that resulted a injury, I come straight here to understand what happened. Also, while watching I debated to myself the "morality" of speed in which these vids come out vs rigor that science requires and the compassion for the subject. Glad you addressed it head on. Great work!

The only thing that was frustrating to watch was after they had him stabilized, the medical staff kept him on the field for a few minutes while teammates were surrounding him. When it comes to a brain bleed, every second counts, they have to get a CAT scan asap
