If doma had this backstory in the canon manga than it would had made his character so much more interesting. Heartless since bearth a real demon, a monster but one day a women with a child stumbled into his cult, doma wanted to kill her but suddenly he felt something strange, something new, something warm, he wanted to know those feelings, kotoha was the only one able to make him feel something, LOVE. With her, he felt for the first time in his life truly Human. What i find cool is that everything adds up in the canon manga for it to fit, there is a state of mind were some people become playfull, talkative and childish in order to hide there pain, suffering, just like how doma's attitude is. That backstory would even make all of douma's actions have a reason, why he only eats womens, because he want to feel Love again, feel the warmth of kotoha again. Being playful until he broke inosuke's mask seeing that he was in fact the son of kotoha, his son, and then something snapt in him he felt pain, the same pain he felt that night when kotoha died, but it was different, it wasn't sadness, it was regret, he would then smile at inosuke, making him remember somthing he knew that smile from when he was a baby he than shouted asking him why he killed his mother, Doma would than say : "Kill?....I didn't kill her........I saved her......she is inside me now for eternity......just like every one else......now i can always see......just like right now." He would turn to his side looking at nothing and say "isn't that right kotoha?", Doma would have became insane after kotoha's death, refusing to accepte that she was gone. INSANITY And after he was biheaded by inosuke, just before his death, he would look at his son, one last time and for the first time say genuine words : "Thank you" Doma would then fully dissapear and die.
God dame now that would be amazing as well as fit with the theme of how most demons are protraded as not being Prue evil and you have sinpthy for them.
I would accept this as possibly canon and believe that he intentionally told Inosuke that he killed Kotoha to manipulate him into killing him. I know this isn’t canon but it’s a good addition to Douma’s backstory. It’s on par with how Akaza wasn’t able to save his fiancée and her father from greedy cowards with how many tears were shed.
Agreed it would have been much better than Douma being killed by Shinobu from food poisoning which is dumb as hell Like Douma can be in the same row with Akaza and Kokushibou Literally, Akaza and Kokushibou gave up in their fight because of their backstory, only Douma was the one dying from food poisoning, and basically just an excuse for Shinobu to die
Well... Raised in a cult as a cult leader isn't like, my dream chuldhood. On top of that, being told you're special, different and above others does make you a lot more likely to... Have issues with connecting with people and understanding them.

Nah, not every villain needs to have a sad backstory so everyone can sympathize with them. What makes Douma so interesting is that he’s a bad guy to the core. The thing about psychopaths is that they can’t process empathy, remorse and regret like the average person. The only thing they care about is constantly being praised and validated. Douma may not have a “sad” backstory but he’s definitely pitiful. What’s even scarier is that people like him actually exist.

Iirc, kokushibo's dad would beat him if he gave his belongings to his brother, the two of them were born in a fucked up house. The father would immediately make the talented one the favorite so this fucked up upbringing really made kokushibo what he is.
A short and easy way to describe douma is "psychopath" because being born with curse of emotional numbness is something that only happens to psychopaths. And people are only considered psychopaths when they are born with emotional numbness.

Akaza and Kokushibou and Muzan (kinda) all got a really sad backstory which was kind of a redemption arc. This should totally be cannon so the demon quartet all get a nice wrap up

This is very interesting. Even though I loved Doma, I did wish there was more emotional depth to him like Akaza. In the manga, he's just evil for no reason. Even in the end, he doesn't feel genuine emotions, he feels superficial lust for Shinobu. I hope the anime flesh him out more.

Aight. Douma never had any feelings. He never cried, smiled, or laughed sincerely. He kept Kotoha by his side because she was beautiful and had a nice voice. He never cried for her sincerely when she died and even insulted her grave. He never sincerely cared for her, but even so, this be painful 💀💀
To be fair, gotouge wasted a good opportunity for a well written backstory. After all only 2 upper moons have good backstories the rest are either mad or simply evil
I'm inclined to believe something like this actually happened, with Douma not actually enjoying the act of eating Kotoha despite her tasting delicious and crying over her death without understanding why it is he's crying. Perhaps he'd rationalize it later as him reacting to her foolishness leading to her death, much in the same way he cried over the idea of humans making up the idea of the afterlife out of pity for their perceived idiocy, not realizing that he genuinely felt sad over his friend's death and couldn't find any enjoyment in eating her despite what his body was telling him should be an enjoyable experience as a demon. He tells Inosuke the truth that his mother was delicious, but still doesn't understand why he didn't enjoy the meal even when he meets Shinobu in Purgatory on his way to Hell.
This makes me feel for douma slightly, he truly wanted her to be happy in a sadistic way, but because he knew there wasn’t a afterlife or believe there wasn’t it shows how much he cared for her when he says he doesn’t want her to go to hell, might me just me though

For all the people saying Dōma doesn't have a sad backstory or is "emotionless", Dōma actually somewhat does have emotions. It's just too suppressed under the happy facade he keeps. It's really the fault of his parents and the Cult. Had his parents treated him like a normal child, Dōma would've been able to feel emotion properly, but no. His parents thought he was too "above" for that and killed his basic emotional responses. And... It wasn't explicitly canon, but hinted that one of his followers r@p3d him.
This is nice but I'm glad it isn't canon as it would've really made a certain fight feel less impact full. I always favored Doma. He is the embodiment of a true demon and is honestly a better antagonist than muzak because of how he was written. But I do like the part with inosuke
I never know that Doma actually loves someone. And he hesitates to eat Kotoha. Then Muzan doesn't care of his love to Kotoha, and forces him to eat her. Like I never know that an upper moon has fallen in love with a human. It is very emotional.

Aight. Douma never had any feelings. He never cried, smiled, or laughed sincerely. He kept Kotoha by his side because she was beautiful and had a nice voice. He never cried for her sincerely when she died and even insulted her grave. He never sincerely cared for her, but even so, this be painful 💀💀
To be fair, gotouge wasted a good opportunity for a well written backstory. After all only 2 upper moons have good backstories the rest are either mad or simply evil
I'm inclined to believe something like this actually happened, with Douma not actually enjoying the act of eating Kotoha despite her tasting delicious and crying over her death without understanding why it is he's crying. Perhaps he'd rationalize it later as him reacting to her foolishness leading to her death, much in the same way he cried over the idea of humans making up the idea of the afterlife out of pity for their perceived idiocy, not realizing that he genuinely felt sad over his friend's death and couldn't find any enjoyment in eating her despite what his body was telling him should be an enjoyable experience as a demon. He tells Inosuke the truth that his mother was delicious, but still doesn't understand why he didn't enjoy the meal even when he meets Shinobu in Purgatory on his way to Hell.
This makes me feel for douma slightly, he truly wanted her to be happy in a sadistic way, but because he knew there wasn’t a afterlife or believe there wasn’t it shows how much he cared for her when he says he doesn’t want her to go to hell, might me just me though

Ok I actually like this ship. Don’t come for me. Douma actually genuinely liked Kotoha. Vice versa. He enjoyed her companionship. Also had plans to keep her till her life span ran out. Yet when she found out he was eating humans she ran away leaving Inosuke as she was killed. Thats my reasons lol

For all the people saying Dōma doesn't have a sad backstory or is "emotionless", Dōma actually somewhat does have emotions. It's just too suppressed under the happy facade he keeps. It's really the fault of his parents and the Cult. Had his parents treated him like a normal child, Dōma would've been able to feel emotion properly, but no. His parents thought he was too "above" for that and killed his basic emotional responses.

It wasn't explicitly canon, but hinted that one of his followers r@p3d him.
