I teared up at the thought of those parents having to carry their sick children away from hospitals. Brilliant reporting, thank you for making the realities of this war known.
I’m crying too. My teenage daughter had an aggressive cancer less than 2 years ago. I literally can’t imagine trying to save her life while trying to protect her from a war that’s also trying to kill her. There was no way we could have moved her bcuz she was too sick. These families are being made to do something unthinkable and possibly impossible in some cases; all bcuz Russia is targeting civilians. These are war crimes of the highest order. Where is their humanity?
Yes agree. And the news clip on just the other day about the Mom in Ukraine holding her baby while crying that she no longer has any food for him and she didn't know what to do to get food for her family, Putin is indeed a monster; he's shown that over and over.

There is even more to this elderly woman Anderson Cooper is talking about near the end of the video. She is one of the last survivors of the blockade of Leningrad. During WW2 the city was completely surrounded by Nazi Germany and Finnish troops, to cut off the population from food supplies in order to take the city. The siege lasted from 1941 to the beginning of 1944 and nearly 1.1 million civilians died of diseases or starvation. Now in her late 80s, she still has the strength and courage to protest and advocate for peace. The fact that the Russian police doesn't even stop at a survivor of this tragedy, a national hero, only shows the complete ruthlessness of Putin.
Wow, thank you!

Anderson's humanity is just heartbreaking. I remember Katrina and Sandy Hook and the Pulse Nightclub massacre and I remember his humanity in reporting those tragedies. I cried then and I'm crying now. I hope he keeps speaking truth to power and comes home to his children soon.
When he spoke about the mothers having to take desperately ill children and flee to get better treatment... yeah. He's a parent, I'm a parent, you may well be a parent - it hits deep (especially when you've had an acutely ill child for even a relatively short length of time). But you observe rightly that he has ALWAYS been that humanitarian man. He really is passionate about people and what he does.
I cried too, hon. Prayer works for some - I am going to go look now, though, and see what other options there are for the support of Ukrainian civilians, at such a remove. My attention got derailed recently by flooding in my area - watching him here got me focussed on the details of this war-crime again 😞
Anderson is a Jerk
You know he's a CIA asset right? The CIA asset makes you cry? You need to get a grip.

Here in Ireland, ive heard from syrian refugees about how painful it is to see the outpouring of unconditional support and love for ukraine. They jumped through such harrowing monstrous hoops to get to safety, and then the EU and North america opens its arms to ukraine. Its how it should be that this response to ukraine is as it is, but it is devastating for other refugees who see that their lives are somehow of less value, that we failed to recognise their humanity too.
I'm sorry, but that's not entirely the same. The Syrians only had to go to the neighboring countries to be safe, and a lot of them did. Of course a journey all the way to Europe is going to be more dangerous.
And we did end up taking a lot of them (talking about the EU now) and they got (and still get) every support and benefit that comes with living in a European country (access to education, health care, etc.). Most of them are doing very well.
Now, the Ukrainians are OUR neighbors, just like the Syrians were neighbors to a number of countries in the Middle East. It't not exactly our fault that they "only" have to march to Poland (and other countries) to get to safety.
I personally volunteered with refugees in 2015, and I assure you, they WERE welcomed by most people here (I'm from Austria). To me, it makes no difference where someone comes from. I see someone in need, I help them. That's it.
@@anette2050 im not sure years spent languishing in a refugee camp in Lebanon counts as a reasonable definition of "refuge". I dont agree that simply because of geographical proximity those conditions should be all a refugee in the middle east should hope for or be entitled to. You worjed with refugees in Austria but you know they are just a portion of the total displaced in tge syrian war. The point is that we in Europe have power and money and have been relatively hesitant to use it to help palestine , yemen, syria, the list goes on, but ukraine has a mass refugee exodus and suddenly mountains can be moved overnight to treat them with the decency and dignity and compassion they rightly deserve, but that was denied so many other refugees.
@@ruthk618 Well, I'm sure some of that is true. Still, I think it's just easier for most people to take in people from a neighboring country, who they see as similar to themselves. And this war IS very close to us. It might not seem that way in Ireland, but for us, the Ukrainian border is actually closer to Vienna than the city of Bregenz in western Austria.
Not to mention the fact that the majority of the people coming in 2015 were men, whereas now it's primarily women and children.
This is a European war, and it's understandable that Europeans would feel it more vividly than other wars.
@@codswallop321 that's fair. Two things can be true at once though, im just pointing out another perspective.
Thank you A.C. for sharing the human experience within this war. We need to remember that there are actual people who are suffering because of it.
I remember when Putin first came to power, we all joked about how he was a "Bond villain", he seemed like a caricature. As the years went on though and his grip on power tightened the jokes became less funny and now here we are, children dying, an 80 year old woman dragged into a van by state enforcers, a full scale disinformation campaign and all to maintain this image that Putin is a "strong man" and it's all just such a sad, pointless waste.

You are used to freedom. In a dictatorship you play a daily game called "How-not-to-get-Disappeared-Quest". If you play it right, you get to live and breathe and sometimes prosper a bit. Mostly depending on how far collapsed the economy is. To stand up to dictators means putting a lot on the line. Generally more than people are willing to commit. When protests gain momentum and the dictators cannot get everyone in line, then the relative potential price of revolt lessens and people will be more committed.
