I also regret that I haven't tried this and tried pushing it in our store.... I'll have to try some finally so I can taste for myself. I tried selling it as a mixer... but as you said, it's hard at the price point when there are great blended scotches that will work just fine.
15% off though?! HAWT damn. I think our last bottles will fly off the shelf now :)

Aye - hopefully we'll find the abandoned wee bottles a new loving home lol.

Hah! You're a brave man coming out on the internet and trying to defend this one. XD
If the tag line was supposed to be "The Whisky of Choice for Bartenders", then the PR group in charge of this do not understand bartenders. No bartender is going to mix a well drink with a bottle that costs twice as much as its competitors behind the bar. They worried too much about the palate of bartenders and not the wallet of consumers. =/
Sadly, I can't even speak about the taste because I've never bought the bottle nor do I know anyone who has.

Haha, I wouldn't say it's a defence per say - conceptually it was still a horrible idea with even worse execution. But at the end of the day even the ugliest puppy in the pound has a perfect home waiting for it somewhere ;) As a whisky, it's perfectly cromulent, and might be the perfect choice for a few folks. Just probably not folks looking for a Glenmorangie.

I tried this blind last night up against the Glenmorangie 10 year. It is not age stated, but I found it more flavorful than the 10 year. And in my market it is about $12-$15 cheaper.

Thanks for the input bud. I should see if I can find an open bottle of the 10 and do the same! Is the X still available near you?

@@DrinkingOutLoudit is available at this time, around $31. The 10 year is priced at $45.

Isn't it a bit deceptive to market a bottle named X, the roman numeral for TEN?
I'm in the USA where Glenmorangie TEN is 43% and was usually only a few dollars more than this Cocktail Whisky, so I never saw the point of it?
I also don't see the point of Glenmorangie introducing another NAS 40% whisky in the form of this new Triple Cask Reserve...unless the X has been discontinued already?

Thanks for the comment! I agree it's a bit off side calling it X. Especially when other brands legitimately do use Roman numerals for the age. Chivas for example have been known to. But at least it's not as bad as Proper Twelve (or Proper Shite as I call it).
Yeah, you're definitely in the majority there on not seeing the point over the 10. And I think the big problem comes down to not being given any reason to expect something different. If you're not going to give an age statement, at least tell us the cask type so it can be shown to be unique.
Funnily enough, that's exactly what they've done with that new Triple Cask Reserve (which hasn't made it here yet and I didn't know existed at the time I recorded). I believe the X is fully discontinued, but they didn't really announce it, so maybe they'll do another batch. I can't imagine they will though.
