    When I was 10 or 11 years old in 2000 or 2001 the sci-fi channel actually aired the dubbed uncut version late at night, It must have been by mistake.
    I recorded it on my VHS player and lost it in a move.
    Felt like i lost an ultra rare part of history because i couldn't believe it was aired on TV.
    I spent years trying to find the uncut dub version afterwards only to ever find the cut dubbed.
    Until recently. =)

    Evil Town is actually the only good OVA this trilogy has to offer.
    Sure, it took the edginess way too extreme even more than the manga but it wasn't bad at all. The problem with these adaptations is, like you've said, that it's way more focused on the violence, rape, gore and shock factor instead of on the characters and the will to survive like the manga does which is why Violence Jack is so influential.

  • @MutaScale
    @MutaScale 3 года назад +32

    Harem Bomber, I found, after repeat viewings, to be kind of slow and yeah, draining, least up to after Yumi sells Ken and Mari out, afterwards I actually found the rest of the OVA funny in a unintended way.
    Evil Town, while you've raised many valid points (Don't forget Pre-Nadesco Sho "Genocyber" Aikawa wrote it, so dock off some points there.), I still find it the better of the three OVA's. And while Blue's portrayal is certainly problematic, I did kind of find the relationship between her and Salrus to be... somewhat surprisingly trusting. Sure, they were evil sons of bitches who do horrible things, but they clearly fought side by side and showed (Least to me) a moment or two of caring for each other... ignoring Salrus making out with the severed head and eating her flesh, but you might get what I mean.
    Hell's Wind, I gotta rewatch again, though I still love the ending of Jack tanking the rocket launcher attack and coming out on fire killing the remaining two members.
    As someone who has covered each of the OVA's (Harem Bomber twice! Gotta get back to "Evil Town"), enjoyed your vid man!

    24:12-24:52 FUN-FACT!
    This character’s name is Tom Cat. :p
    In its original Japanese-audio, she was voiced by The Late Chieko Honda, who famously voiced Elpeo Puru & her “twin-sister” on Gundam ZZ, as well as Ennil El in AfterWar X, Nami Yamigumo of Silent Mobius, Marie Mjolnir of Soul Eater, and so much more to add…
    Much like VJ being an inspiration for many, I believe Ennil was inspired by Tom-Cat, from the puffy Dark-Red hair, sporting clothing with a shade of Blue, and Golden head-band & necklace.
    Thankfully Ennil was a broken-bird softie…

    wonder why. Also it’s sad the ova makers didn’t “get” violent Jack. The violence is supposed to be portrayed as demonic, not glorifying it. Thank you for this review!
    I'm glad that Violence Jack is *drum roll* not that interesting. :/
    Violence and rape are already difficult to tackle with 'wisely' in media. If a show tacks on a half-ass "humans are total monsters dontcha know" moral while lusting over the violence/rape, then I can't take it seriously. Or be willing to commit time to watch something that will leave me tired and unfulfilled.
    Violence Jack doesn't seem to offer anything that other shows/manga have done better; including Devilman which had the decency to have interesting characters both humans AND devils.

    • @osakatales9228
      @osakatales9228 3 года назад +1

      In defense of Violence Jack, it tackles that violence and rape are the effects of an post-apocalyptic Japan within Kyoto, due to an earthquake. The manga/ovas use that to show that even within a lawless land, it could and would happen. Shit, it's a metaphor that every human is a demon, but it shows there is still humanity within them.

      As far as I found, the one on the left is some lolita adaptation, probably not taking a que on what Nobokov was trying to say and the one on the right is some incel rethoric piece

    • @NozomuYume
      @NozomuYume 2 года назад

      @@kostajovanovic3711 One on the left is from the Lolita Anime series from studio Wonder Kids (different from the one of the same name from long-standing movie house Nikkatsu), incidentally that series was the very first pornographic anime ever released. The episode shown is "Koneko-chan no Iru Mise", roughly translated as "The House Where Kittens Are", or "House of Kittens", which could best be thought of as a string of pop culture cameos in the vein of the Daicon IV opening animation, only pornographic.
      The series from Studio WK and Nikkatsu were the earliest, though rapidly eclipsed by the Cream Lemon series which became the standard bearer of early H OVAs. A lot of the artists who worked on them came from the manga anthology Lemon People, and went on to work on influential stuff like Project A-ko.

    This Harlem bomber animation looks good I guess I just have different taste than the RUclipsr. It’s not great animation, but it still looks pretty darn good to me. But I’m an 80s kid (maybe I mean the art / char design and not the animation)

    I didn't know it at the time, but when I first rented and watched violence jack, (evil town), that it was the more tame version. And I thought how violent it was at that time, even over board if you will? Years latter I watched it again, (un-edited version, and wow)! Rape, etc. (you know what I mean). Never saw anything like it. Holy schyte.

    Violence Jack really is part of that overly violent era of anime from the 80s and 90s, and in my opinion, it better stay the f*ck back in the 80s and 90s. Cause good God does this anime just.... good lord almighty. I dont care how influential the manga was, these ovas and any further adaptation can stay in whatever pit of hell conjured it up. Never have i seen anime so gleeful in its violence and just all around horrible subject material also be absolutely boring and draining on every sense. I know they made these shocking for the sake of shock value. Well im not shocked. Im bored. How do you fail so spectacularly?

    The most disgusting and roughest watch possible. Even m d geist would look at violence jack and say "I fear no man but that that scares me". The weirdest thing about Jack himself is that he never is the main character. He's more so some sort of mutated force of nature that just rolls in whenever needed. reminds me of a Western? You know the lone cowboy rolls into the town. And then he cleans up all the bad guys and then just Wanders on into the sunset. Now in any other anime I would consider this as bad writing. But somehow for Jack it Actually works. I don't know why it works it just seems to work.

For someone whom I'm sure wishes that all people regardless of differences deserve respect the reaction to seeing "marginalized people in negative rolls" comes off as coddling instead of criticism and honestly it is insulting.

    Probably the worst anime I have ever seen. No redeeming qualities. Bad art, plot, pacing, music?, and overall presentation. It doesn’t work as hentai or action, horror, or anything. Anyway, it sucks. Go Nagai’s worst work. For the longest time, I thought this and Genocyber were the same anime, but Genocyber does have awesome moments.
