      Thanks! I like getting new subscribers to my channel, but as a point of interest, the eclectic nature of my channel (a slug control video one day, a cod fishing video the next, etc.) returning viewers are few and far between. More than 90% of my views come from new viewers. Please subscribe :)

    I sure wish I had found about this type of bearing, which you so superbly made a demonstration of here, when I needed it.
    Not knowing such bearings existed, I fabricated my own flange for a standard bearing to repair a lever shaft that had worn itself into a machine housing, whose design did not incorporate a means to lubricate or otherwise withstand reaction loads from the lever.
    Of particular interest of this bearing, which I didn't realize until I saw your video, is the ability to adjust itself to slight axial misalignment - I had this issue and had to hone the inner bearing housing in the flange I fabricated to fit the bearing with its slight off axis misalignment with the machine housing and it took me weeks and several attempts to "reinvent the wheel" to get it right!
    Thank you again, I hope this video will be picked by Google for those who need to know how this bearing operates, to save them from all the time it took me to do it from scratch. It deserves many, many more views. Kudos! 👍

    Hello Grandpa,
    Myself Ravindra from India. I am also studying about wind turbine. We are currently making a small wind turbine as a mini project. In which, the generator assembly with the blades, gears, generator and brake system is installed. This assembly is supported by a rod. I am confused on how to make the rotation of the shaft free so that the direction of the turbine can change due to flow of wind.
    May I know any mechanism on how to put the rotating bearing.

    • @BobKelland
      @BobKelland  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Ravindra, The bearing you are referring to is called a Yaw bearing. Yaw bearings can be "low tech" such as using a pipe set in a hole in a thick block of wood (and then greased). A pipe, rather than a solid rod is preferable as you can pass the turbine wires through the pipe and bring them to ground. Good luck with you project. Grandpa.

    The bearings i purchased do not move freely within the housing like yours do. Do you have any suggestions? I need the shaft to be perfectly vertical and do not want to risk ruining the bearings by hitting them with a mallet. Thank you for the video!!

    • @BobKelland
      @BobKelland  5 лет назад

      Hard to answer without more details but as long as any lateral load is "normal" you should be ok. But if the physical situation allows there would be no reason not to double up the bearings.

    is there a bearing the same type like this but having a seal on it. Because i crush rocks with rock crusher, and use air blower to push the dust out faster. I noticed that the dust will get into bearings. If it had somekind of a seal from one side(the other side not important), that way the dust wou8 grt into the bearing.

    • @BobKelland

      The bearing shown in the video does have a seal for the bearings. You will notice that the bearings themselves are not visible anywhere in the video.

      Yes - you turn the bearing so that it is 90 degrees with the flange and then manipulate it to remove it from the flange.

    Are those ball bearings or sleeve bearings? I have an application that uses a flange mounted sleeve bearing, but I am unsure whether a shaft collar and bearing spacer would work on it as the "inner race" of the sleeve bearing does not rotate like a ball bearing would. Any tips?
