The thing about IMP cleave that no one seems to understand is that IMP cleave only increases the damage bonus of cleave not the total damage. At rank 5 cleave adds 50 bonus damage to your attack. IMP cleave with 3 talent points increases the bonus damage by 120% or effectively by 60. This means IMP cleave makes the damage bonus of cleave 110. The problem with this damage bonus is that it never scales. It doesn't matter how many buffs or how much gear you get IMP cleave will only ever add 60 damage to your cleave. When your buffed out the ass with good gear at end game and you hitting cleaves for like 2-3k damage, 60 damage is an abysmally small increase and it would absolutely be better to put this 3 points else where like IMP battle shout. Obviously this depends on if there is another warrior with it already in your party but you get the point.
Also this whole idea of it being better on slow vs fast weapons does not exist because once again IMP cleave only effects the bonus damage of cleave meaning it is always a 60 damage increase regardless of fast or slow weapon. Obviously the total damage of cleave would scale based off a slow or fast weapon nor am i arguing if you should use cleave with a fast weapon or not as it depends. I am just stating that IMP cleave doesn't scale on anything and it is always a flat 60 damage increase.
Aside from this one tangent about IMP cleave Amphy is the goat and is a great leader and teacher.
in the video you can see that his cleave hits for around 250 dmg so a 60 damage increase for 3 points would be fucking massively insane, but i agree that it becomes less important the better your gear is.
And i forgot to add that thats just per target so its 60x2 = 120dmg bonus.
@@Bubblox you are right that it is much better at earlier levels and worse gear. It just doesn't scale at all so it gets significantly worse with gear and world buffs and consumes in the mix.
He mentions it's good for threat. Not for min maxing DPS. As a tank you're looking to boost your threat/dmg any way possible. I wonder if there is some hidden threat multiplier with the talent, but he says the other tank was ripping off him constantly with this talent.
@@archie8271 Threat is directly tied to DPS and cleave does not inherently have a threat modifier on like sunder armor or heroic strike does. The only threat modifier you are getting for cleave is the defensive stance modifier which base is 30%. This would means the 60 bonus damage your getting on cleave = 78 extra threat generated. This would go up a little bit if you were talented into defiance in the prot tree for a larger thread modifier on d stance but it is still not significant.
When you look at something like Heroic Strike which costs 5 less rage, it hits harder on single target and generates an additional 175 threat at rank 9 on top of the threat generated by the damage. This 175 threat is also modified by the defensive stance threat modifier of 30% without defiance causing it to actually generate 227 additional threat + damage done.
I'm not saying the talent is entirely worthless to take but in most situations there is better talents to take that would equal more over all threat or better mitigation gains while sacrificing very little threat gains. This does obviously also depend on the composition you are running. If you already have a warrior covering battle shout and demo shout then you free up points to put elsewhere which could be imp cleave but this is entirely situational based on your group or raid composition.
When Amphy was talking about the other tank ripping off him with cleave this only applies to multi target scenarios and also forgoes the knowledge that Amphy was tanking with daggers which is good single target but dagger change the way attack power scales with abilities and it actually makes cleave a bit worse for generating threat. This is why someone with a slow main hand weapon would rip off with cleave vs someone with daggers that is more specifically setup for single target threat generation. Also we are talking two tanks fighting it out for threat where one is specifically talented and setup for more AoE threat and one is setup for more single target threat. Its not really a fair comparison or judgement of the imp cleave talent alone as there are many other variables to that situation.

@@Ziqoftw You should always use a shield on bosses that you are unsure about their damage output. And spam shieldblock like your life depends on it.
Keep in mind to always have battle shout up, and demo shout the mobs!

Improved cleave is a waste of talent points, it only affects the added damage on the spell. Not your weapon damage. It´s like not alot of bonus for 3 talent points. much rather dumb the extra points in improved Battleshout (It will make all your shit do more, 243 ap-290(with book and talents) 47ap is just around 9 weapon damage. About the same as you get on the cleave bonus.

Another tip for shield block is that is actually more threat to shield block into a guaranteed revenge proc then it is to sunder armor and it costs the same amount of rage. If you are looking to cause the most threat on a single target while still having mitigation with shield block then this combo is more optimal then sunder armor spam. Obviously sunder armor will increase the damage of the raid via armor reduction which is definitely worth it but this is also why DPS warriors usually just do sunder armor instead of the tank as its not as efficient threat per rage spent.
thats a great post. also is heroic strike spammed when there is excess threat on single target for the best threat? While prioritising bloodthirst -> revenge ->sunder armor, and shield block added in
@@multitablez7825 heroic strike makes ur off-hand almost 100% chance to hit so if u are fury-prot go for heroic strike when dw
that's false you can get 100% hit on offhand simply by queueing you don't need to actually heroic strike the choice is based on other metrics@@SkeltherBot

This is why, in vanilla, I believe that feral tanks are better. With pummelers, we can do as much or more threat than a warrior, we have more HP, so even if we are crit, it's not the end of the world, and we take less dmg than a dual-wielding fury tank by far. Warriors CAN spec and gear to take less dmg than a bear, but then their threat is pathetic. Bears FTW! PS, that 2k more hp makes us much better choices for high poison or high magic dmg fights. There are only a few fights in vanilla where you would absolutely want a warrior instead of a bear.

hardly disagree on the slow weapon for tanking especially if you got zero +hit chance and not beeing a human. if you miss 1 time means you can hit once every 5,6 sec. thats enough time to get your healer rekt gg. even if you got some rage from whatever, fast weapons in general more save and smooth for tanking imo.

man all this warriors never spec into piercing howle its so fucking good. its only one point and its so fucking insanly good you have no idea. imagine you have a INSTANT blizzard with imp slow and i forgot the duration of the slow but its at least 5 sec or somehting ? USE IT fellow warrior ppl.

It can be a trap for hardcore survival. If you try to get away from several mobs, using it will reset all leashes meaning another 12 seconds of the mobs following you.
Other than that it can be a great asset in certain situations.
@@zorfmorf2414 i mean they gonna be slowed by 50% for 6 sec, in that 6 sec u can get so much range. also im talking more about using it to support others and tanking. lets say u lose aggro on 5 mobs for some reason and u dont have aoe taunt, you put a 6sec aoe slow on em and the other dude can just kite. also u could use it if ur dying and u charge to another mob and basicly "cc" them for the duration they have to walk back to u while they are slowed. you can kite melee mobs forever with this. or u need to slow a mob/mobs and ur not in melee range for harmstring. u can clutch so much stuff with it if shit goes wrong. or just simple shit like slowing the melee mobs and charge a caster. you just "ccd" like all the melee mobs for 5sec or whatever. you could even aoe taunt and then just run away from them and slow them and take like ZERO damage even if its 10 elite mobs. run into melee range with your swing timer hit and than kite again.. the possibilitys for great plays are endless.

Ahmpy D tier tank. Bloodthirst was the answer to snap threat. Guy has awful casts per minute on his abilities in raids. Content is easy but his threat is awful
