  • Shelby GT350R Gets New Street Tires. I finally was able to get Michelin Pilot Sport 4S in OEM Sizes. The results have truly transformed the comfort and street manners of the car for now. I high recommend this for anyone who has Michelin Pilot Cup2 and drives mainly on the street. You also have the option of doing 295.30.19 front and 305.30.19 rears which looks more like the Cup 2 fitment with a slightly stretched sidewall.

    I just switched to the 4S on my corvette and it really did transform the car compared to the stock run flats. Much more enjoyable for sure.

      Hi Jim yeah run flats on any car are just an awful decision OEM continue to make in the NYC area all they do is cause cracked and bent wheels. When I get all my cars on all 4 corners I simply use 2 my two low profile AC Hydraulic Floor jacks. I should do a video on this now that you mention it.

    Great Vid Phil can't wait for the FP Springs. FYI, for anyone else about the Cup2s, I swapped mine right when it was delivered for Cooper RS3-G1 All-Seasons (305 square set up) since I also live in the NY/NJ area and wanted to be able to take the car out in the colder temps as well. Car rides great, have nothing but good things to say about them. Granted I never drove my 350R with the Cup2s on but for my needs it has worked out great. 4S I'm sure is even better but I was worried about Nov-Feb temps in NJ.

      if you drove on the cup2 on our roads i think you would have regretting buying the car it was good you swapped tires before even driving it. So far the new springs are amazing and the car rides better than the original springs. Il report in a new video soon.

    I love the 4s on my PP1. They are the best performance street tire I've used. Pretty good in the rain, comfortable ride and pretty sticky when warm. They make a little more noise than some other tires but not bad. I have 285/35's in a square stance on 19x10's.

      Have you tried the Continental Extremecontanct? In my experience I found they grip better in the dry (I dont do wet driving), the feeling in the steering - while small - is better than the PS4, to me it feels more like a performance tire than a PS4 but it still has street tire characteristics, and also I'm in love with how the sidewall looks and curves it's beautiful

    Definitely interested in hearing what you have to say about the Ford Performance lowering springs. For my 2017 gt350 I am considering buying forged wheels in the 350R sizes and going with the same tires as you have in the video. But my concern is going from a 35 to 30 sidewall will have too large of a wheel well gap. So I am also considering lowering the car when I get these wheels. But then my concern is lowering the car and riding on lower sidewall tires will lead to me shredding the splitter

    My 80 mile drive back in a cool February evening from the dealer with my 19 gt350 and cup 2's i quickly learned how bad they were on the street. I threw on 4s 305/30/19 front and back and ive had no issues. Just have to make sure the tires are warmed up before having fun in the curves. Had them 6500 miles now and drive it from 45 degrees and up.

  • @doncobin4408

    great video. I agree with you on the sport cup tires on the R, they suck as far as tramlining on the street We talked before, when you were looking at wheels for you red 350. I went with Forgelines on my 350. Since then I moved from Boston to Florida, and now have a 2020 350R, Overall the roads here are much better down here, no potholes and much smoother, though there is much more crown in the roads so tramlining is still a issue here. Though I kept my Forgelines with the stock 350 super sports, and don't really notice loss of steering feel compared to the sport cups. I am just waiting for Michelin to come out with stock 350 size sport 4S in regular 350 size. They have them for one axle but not the other yet, So when they come out with both sizes I plan to switch from super sports to the 4S on my forgelines. Though after watching this might get a set of 4S's for my 350R

    Went to Auto Club Speedway yesterday and noted a vast majority of the GT 350/350R guys and gals were running GY SC3Rs. Never a mention by folks missing the Cup 2s. Granted, rain and cold isn’t a consideration for that application, I thought it was interesting.

  • @AllIsWell_22

    I have a ZL1/1LE. The first thing I did when I took delivery was have the stock GY3R tires swapped to the PS4S. It made a massive difference to the street experience. The GY3R tires are relegated only for the track. PS4S tires FTW!

    • @autofanaticcars
      @autofanaticcars  2 года назад

      oh yeah those GY are also dangerous on most roads and in certain temps. I understand manufactures do this for performance figures but they need to maybe offer us options on tires when buying cars. Now GM is going that on the C8 vette and some other manufactures are as well.

      @@autofanaticcars Yes, thanks, I'm looking at the 295/305 for my carbons. Is there anyway to see the pictures?, i've scoured the internet , forums etc with no luck. As to tire sizing, you are right, the standards aren't really standards at all. Its frustrating. You really have to dig into the data on each tire on tire rack. For instance , Im getting ready to do a set of Conti ECS 2 in 305/325 on a set of signature wheels because the deal is so dumb good from my buddy that works at Continental. They get like 45-50 percent off 12 tires a year as an employee right on tire rack with their unique login. The ECS have changed tread width just in the new revision alone. The ECS 02 in a 325 is 11.4 while the 305 in a PS4S is 11.5!!!!! Prior ECS was 11.8 in same size tire. Crazy. If you haven't read this article by Billy Johnson, its explains why all these "metrics" that are used by Tire companies are really not to be trusted at face value. You have to do your research. motoiq.com/how-to-properly-select-and-size-tires-for-performance/

    I get that the Cup 2 aren't the most comfy for street duty, but your not dishing a fair amount of dirt to these horrible NY streets. I've driven across the country. It cannot be overstated, how comparatively bad, for world-renowned city, NY streets are. I'm talking all of Brookyn, Queens, Manhattan, and a bunch of western Long Island.
