- This dude grabbed a foul ball and celebrated in a kid's face! (Perhaps not the best idea.) Not surprisingly the crowd was NOT HAPPY about it, but the whole thing turned out to be pretty funny.

What he going to do, look at the ball for a week and think, "that was cool", and then move on with his life. Only difference would be if it is a historically significant ball, otherwise give it to the kid, spread some joy.

I will never forget, I was 11 or 12 years old and I caught a Braves hat from a player. After, some guy next to me was trying to guilt trip me into giving the hat to his kid, who was maybe 3 years younger then me. “He’s a kid” he kept telling me. I kindly reminded him that I was a kid too and told him to F off. He was so pissed, I thought he was about to hit me. Anyway, I hate those parents who simply use their kids to try to get something for themselves.
Please tell me you didn’t give him the hat. He nor his kid deserved it.

I am from England and went to Wrigley in 2016 (when they were using commemorative balls). I was sat below the commentary booth and a foul ball came up and hit the booth and landed on the seat next to me.
I was half cut and a lady behind me said 'You have to give it to a kid' and I did and INSTANTLY REGRETTED IT!!!.
What I should have done was say I was keeping it for my kid (who doesn't exist).
I have had a toss up from a Phillies coach in Atlanta, but still.......

It's easy for someone to say "give it to the kid" when it's not their ball to give or keep. I'd like to see if they'd still be so magnanimous when they catch a ball and everyone's yelling at them to "give it to the kid."

It happened to me, luckily I got another pre-game, but that day there wasn't even BP.. So I got tossed up a game used ball and security guard told me to give it to a kid since I was older than him

The guy definitely should've kept it. Went to a game last night and I got a HR in BP my first of the day and one of only 2 I was able to get. I was pressured by some fans to give it to a kid and I gave in, only to see this kid get over 5 baseballs during the game on toss ups from the center fielders, probably got more but that's just what I saw. I'm 18 just trying to enjoy the game and sometimes wanna keep the balls myself.
at least I didn't throw the opposing teams HR back on the field 3 batters into the game (because everyone was yelling throw it back) and then get ushered out by security lol. and guess what they tossed the ball back into the stands to u guessed it that same kid

As a kid I never asked a random grown man for a foul ball. It wasn’t even something I thought about, you have to earn that to even feel the joy imo. My first ball was from Rafael Palmeiro down the 3rd base line, I’ll never forget that moment.
I always thought about this and came to a conclusion that if I never gotten a ball and i finally getting one after 20 years im keeping it. The kid has plenty of time to get one.

To answer the question. There was no right or wrong choice. He got that ball fair and square, the kid wasn't even in the correct row to even grab it lol. Adults are allowed to get excited over bringing home a game used ball lol. Maybe he had his own child he wanted to gift it to, or a niece or nephew. Technically speaking the kid put him on the spot, so if anything the kid was in the wrong lol. He's obviously just a kid though so you can't blame him for knowing any better haha. So yeah, I wouldn't have been upset if he had kept it. Would have been a totally different story if he dived for it and grabbed it from underneath the kid or next to the kid or something, but that wasn't the case at all. The kid went up to him and asked him and pressured him into saying it's his birthday, and the crowd followed up by pear pressuring him. I actually feel bad for the guy 😂

This video title and it involving the Yankees trigger this memory. It was in the late 80's, at an NYC hotel sports memorabilia show. In attendance signing were Smokin Joe Frazier, Gordie Howe, Reggie Jackson...etc etc etc. I had already stood online after my dad purchased a ticket and gotten Mr. October's autograph. A bit later my dad bought a Yankee stadium 1977 All-Star game program(which Reggie participated in). Reggie was taking a break from signing so I decided to approach him to sign the said program. He replied with "You need to get on line". Some guys nearby caught wind of this encounter which provoked them to cry " Sign it for the kid Reg!" repeatedly. Mr Jackson begrudgingly signed it with a sour puss on his face :-/.
