Good video! I have spent a lot of money on scanners and the worst experience I have had was unfortunately with an Autel scanner. It just stopped whilst underwarranty and the supplier and Autel made every attempt to avoid attending to it under warranty. I still have this new scanner which is useless. So I won't buy one of their products ever again. I have found many better companies to deal with that offer much better products. I only hope no one else has a similar experience with Autel as I did, because it was really bad.
@@ozzstars_cars I purchased a Autolink AL539B in June 2020 on line from a company in Australia called scanner zone. I had used it very little as I had other tools but one day after about 5 months I went to use it and it would not turn on. I contacted the seller who was very difficult and would not give me an address to return to their warehouse in Australia. I contacted Autel and scanner zone to many times aver the next 6months and finally they gave me an address in China to send it under warranty to have it repaired. I believe that they just stalled me all along until the warranty was up. I continued after this time and got no sympathy or service from them. It cost only $129 AU but as a business man for 50 years in electronics I have never seen, heard or experienced anything like this type of service. I was never going to sent it to China from Australia as the freight cost would not be worth the effort and I did not trust them any way to attend to it.

I've been happy with the 906BT, but the annual price for software updates is astronomical, even though the BT can't do programming. Hard to justify for the amateur. I see there is now a growing market for individuals like Keith Defazio (New LevelAuto here on RUclips), who specialize in reflashing computers, basically an IT/programming expert for cars. Shops call him for consultative advice, and they don't have to keep an expert on hand at their own shop. The overhead cost for staying up to date with every manufacturer has to be really high, so even pro shops are subcontracting some of that. Looking at how fast this field is moving, I'm amazed guys like Eric O are able to keep up.
Yes Keith did the mobile diagnostic thing for a long time. He now works for Opus vehicle tech support in NC. Basically it comes down to subscription expense vs. money to be made. The 908SP is a good investment on return if doing programming at least a few times a year. The 906BT is a powerful tool for the money and I really like it. The cost for a subscription renewal can be steep. What kind of pricing have you got?
@@ozzstars_cars The tool cost about 1200 Canadian dollars, and subscription cost was ~800 Canadian dollars/year. I decided not to go for updates, when the tool stops working I'll get another, ha ha. Too bad they don't offer a diy option, like alldata and mitchell.
Superb video. Probably the ONLY video in the world that actually explains Autel's confusing product lineup. So I was told today by someone who uses Autel Maxisys MS-906BT in a shop where they do a lot of work on Toyotas that the ECU coding capabilities touted by Autel do not apply to Toyota. He said that ECU configuration for Toyotas needs to be done using Techstream and a supported J2534 interface, just like ECU programming. It's the first I heard of it, so I went to the Autel site and checked coverage for several fairly late model Toyotas against the Maxisys MS-906BT and the Elite. Interestingly, none of them included any ECU configuration in the list of functionality supported. Just wondering Glen, have you (or anyone else reading this) heard of this?
0:44 what is the difference between coding and programming? I thought they were the same. I saw your video about battery replacement in an Audi/Volkswagen using the Autel. I previously had the Ross-Tech VCDS when I had my VW, an incredible tool and it was a steal dollarwise. I could calibrate the speedometer, the number of turn signal flashes on a swipe, etc. Now is that coding or programming?
I am a programmer. Coding means in laymans term your resetting features that already exist, think like you go to livingroom and increase the speed ofthe fan from 1 to 3. 1,2 and 3 speed exist you are just reconfiguring it. Programming means you take old fan out and put a new fan now it has 5 speed. coding is to enable or disable existing feature, programming is to add or delete existing feature.

Hey Glen , your video is so well laid out and thorough that I have decided to step up and get either the 906 or 909 , my question is if I were to get the 909 , where would be some good resources to learn programming of the different modules ?
MS909 is a good choice. I would check out Keith Perkins. He is really great at his craft and he is also a great guy.. He has a YTube channel, tell him I sent you. 👍Enjoy your new scan tool. -Glen
When graphing PIDS can you overlay multiple PIDS onto one graph? A lot of dealer scan tools do this and I'm curious if Autel, ThinkCar, and Snap-On are every going to get with the program, because it's a wonderful feature.
I just got the maxisys ms906pro Ts I’m curious if ai can manually function certain components with vehicles also note I’m a hobbiest mechanic red seal just not something I want to do as a career
The MS908SP vs 906BT... no contest. Buy the 906BT. It costs $1200 less to buy AND theMS908SP needs a Sub renewal every year to program. UH, that is $1200 the first year and $600 per year thereafter just for the privilege of programing. . Unless you have a lot of modules to program, even taking them to a DEALER will cost a LOT less if you only do a couple a year. An independent shop likely will cost a good deal less than the dealer to program. it depends on your workload but... weigh the cost difference!
Aproving from Brazil, Good vídeo mr ozzstar`s cars!! Could you do promissed continuation of module programing on PC Microsoft based that you Said was easy and Just know The right paths?! It would be awesome
First time happening upon your video . In depth and informative as well . I like how you broke down the acronyms. No one at the shop can even tell me the difference in the autels we use . I’d like to get a level that compares to what we use but not to some of the extent it goes to …..
Hello I wanna buy a Maxisys ms908 Can I still diagnose and program with it after the subscription end, it was end in 2021 can I still use it. Or I shouldn’t buy it.
The scanner will not be able to program Mercedes and BMW once the subscription runs out, the J2534 also can't be used to program without an updated subscription to Autel and the manufacturer. It can however still be used to diagnose vehicles up to the point in time it was last updated but will not be fully updated with the latest features.
You did an excellent job of conveying the info needed. I'm trying to figure out what version of Autel tool I need to re-learn a CVT on a 2014 Subaru Outback. Changed out the valve body and I believe re-learning the trans will correct an issue I'm having. I know the Ultra will do it but that's more tool than I can justify for this not being my job. Any thoughts?
Why buy a fancy scan tool if you won't be using it. Subcontract that part out. The 906 codes the 908SP codes and also program with purchasing the correct software from an OE.
CONGRATS! That thing is SWEEEET! Ha! I've had my 906TS since '16, and I never knew there were system updates. I knew about the car ones, but not the actual operating system. Probably why the thing is so buggy right now! Haven't got much use out of it this year. Was a nuts-n-bolts year. Once covid hit, everyone wanted brake jobs, ball joints, shocks, and hub bearings that they'd been putting off for months or years, lol. I've been drooling over the Ultra, but I'd better be saving up for a new engine or transfer case for the Silverado soon. Already 50% of it has failed at 103k miles, so I expect the other half to go within the next year. Can't win these days. Anyway, great review! Can tell you did your research. I should try doing the same before making a repair vid, HAHAHA! I fumble my way through. :D
Smitty your truck engine won't blow up. I guarantee if you don't use it then their won't be a problem. haha Yeah this new tool is sweet. Looking forward to filming and editing some actual module programming. The MS906 is pretty awesome too! Bonus points for the TS model you own.👍 I am dreaming of owning the Ultra one day. Service info and wiring diagrams all in one tablet, boom. That's the bomb!
@@ozzstars_cars - I hear that! Service info is one of the biggest issues I have with modern vehicles. I don't get enough volume to justify the expense. Although lately I've been having great luck with AllData DIY 1-year subscriptions on some vehicles. I had a dead Lexus I never would've been able to repair without it. I couldn't imagine having all that info at my fingertips on a scan tool, though! I'm just afraid of what the update costs would be on that. They want $700 for my 906TS - I'd imagine it's probably double on the Ultra. Gotta pay to play in this industry! HAHAHA! I've been keeping it around 3k miles per year, but apparently that's way too much for this modern GM product to handle ... :D :D Can't wait to see you do some programming with that!
Can you program modules without the J box like the new battery make model and SN for example? I have the MS906Pro-TS and it has programming capabilities but not to write to the ECM/PCM/BCM that is where I believe you need the J box correct? I thought the J box was for the main body and engine CPUs
I've got an MK906BT on the way. My only concern is, once connected to the vehicle, the Chinese software releases a trojan that they can use someday to disable all our cars.
Hey Glynn , thanks for that tip , the funny part is that now I am convinced to get the new 909 and start watching the programing tips but now jb tools shot me a special for the 919 maxi , so now my question is what advantages does the 919 offer over the 909 ?
My question is Do you have to pay every Year or monthly to keep all the Features on to this OBD device ? Now if you don't pay every yearly or monthly can you still used it to scan for everything ?
Thanks for your time and video. The review was informative. I didn’t see in the video if if the 908SPro has the module topography. Do you know if it does? Thanks for the link and your time in advance.
Great vid! Any idea what happens if you don’t buy the update every year? Does it brick the tool or do you just not get the functionality for brand new models?
Will it turn on the electric cooling fans on GM trucks that have that ability and change the temperature settings on such GM trucks ‘02-06ish that have fan clutches ?? I’ve seen sum1 install electric fans from newer vehicle to older vehicle and selected the electric fan “on/off” for the ECM to control the fans!!

Great review Glenn, thanks for sharing this man!
Hey Pauly! Thanks.
-Glen
Thank you for the great review.
Glad the video was helpful Wildland
Excellent Video. Thank You.
You're welcome Gary
Great looking tool Glen, it captures almost everything you may need in a diagnostic tool.
It does do a lot. Thanks Lloyd, stay safe.
Do you need a special addition to code a VW computer? I need to replace the ecu and keys and stuff for my 2022 f350 and keys
@taztazman8486 you will need a tool dedicated to key programming and a locksmith license. Coding a VW depends which module, battery coding no issue.
I know this video is older. But I just bought the ultra traded in my snappy for it. Do you have any newer videos? Thank you
I don't believe I do. What would you be interested in?
I got the 906BT I love it took a bit to get it to get it to print off my printer
Excellent choice for the money.
Great video! You said you were going to make video showing how to program a module, have you made it yet? If so, send me the link. Thanks
Hey John thanks. I have yet to edit that, I am so behind on vids it's no joke.
I can’t wait to see it. I just brought the maxisys ms919 and I can’t anyone to help me or teach me how to flash/program a module, frustrating!
When graphing PIDS can you overlay multiple PIDS onto one graph? A lot of dealer scan tools do this and I'm curious if Autel, ThinkCar, and Snap-On are every going to get with the program, because it's a wonderful feature.
The higher end Autel like the Ultra I believe has that capability. Up in the $4k range.
Sir, in short words, does 908S worth it money? Or better way to buy 906bt. What is your personal choise? Thank you.

I need to buy a tool to replace in general German car ecus. In your opinion, which one is the best option between IM608 and MS908.
@santosroberto6102 get the IM608 pro if you plan on programming keys
I just got the maxisys ms906pro Ts I’m curious if ai can manually function certain components with vehicles also note I’m a hobbiest mechanic red seal just not something I want to do as a career

You also can do flashing, i am not sure if you mean this by programming since you seem to associate it with keys only

MS908SP vs 906BT...
Thanks for sharing informations. Great 👍
You're welcome, glad the video was helpful.
Can you do a review on the launch X431 Pad V
I would but don't currently own an X431-V. I thoroughly test all tools before I will post a video about it.
Thank you so much for this review!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks bro, super helpful.
Glad to hear it!
Can you test/diagnose heated and cooled seat with autel MaxiSys MS906 Pro TS?
Depends on the vehicle make and model.
Glad it was helpful!
Good Video Have some questions
That's what this comment section is for, ask all you want Leon.
Hello I wanna buy a Maxisys ms908
Can I still diagnose and program with it after the subscription end, it was end in 2021 can I still use it.
Good day, sir! Please, add a link for site of OE data storage. Thank you.
Can't wait to see you do some programming with that!
Can you program modules without the J box like the new battery make model and SN for example? I have the MS906Pro-TS and it has programming capabilities but not to write to the ECM/PCM/BCM that is where I believe you need the J box correct? I thought the J box was for the main body and engine CPUs
J box is for programming and is necessary for modules, like starting from scratch or updating. Battery Management is coding and no J box is needed.
I've got an MK906BT on the way. My only concern is, once connected to the vehicle, the Chinese software releases a trojan that they can use someday to disable all our cars.
Put a condom on your scan tool, problem solved.
@@ozzstars_cars That comment is Golden!
Very informative.
Thanks for watching and your comment.
Hey Glynn , thanks for that tip , the funny part is that now I am convinced to get the new 909 and start watching the programing tips but now jb tools shot me a special for the 919 maxi , so now my question is what advantages does the 919 offer over the 909 ?
From what I read the 919 has an Oscilloscope & Digital Volt Ohm Meter and Built-in Waveform Generator & CAN bus tester.
You're welcome Michael. You would have to step up to the Ultra model to get the module topography, the 908SP does not have it.

Did you ever make the video for the laptop configuration? I’ve surfed and can’t seem to find it

Hey love your vids, I’m not sure if it’s possible but can I purchase a J2534 VCI box and code with my MS906bt? Thanks
The J box is not compatible with the MS906BT. The 906 can not be used for programming. Thanks for checking out the videos. -Glen
Man wish I knew earlier I would’ve bought the 908 instead🤦♂️ guess I’ll list it for sale😂
Can I reprogram the pcm for the Japanese cars with the ms908?
With the J2534 box, laptop and a subscription to the manufacturer software you sure can.
Can this be used on a Mitsubishi Eclipse cross 2018 for the opening and closing of the EPB system?
It should if the tool is updated.
For a 2003 Jeep Liberty 3.7L Power Tech with a 42 RLE transmission would the J2534 and a laptop flash a used TCM?
Along with a subscription to the software from the manufacturer FCA.
What scanner can you recommend in adjusting odometer of any unit?

It's fine for DIY but the 906 has much more capability. 👍

It sure does, check out a video I posted on just that subject. ruclips.net/video/UdC76bRqC8M/видео.html
Great vid! Any idea what happens if you don’t buy the update every year? Does it brick the tool or do you just not get the functionality for brand new models?
Still works without a subscription. Can't update new models and no warranty.

It can control electric fans but don't think it would work without a programmed module.
