@@Hrafna Great manga, and according to one site Nordic mythology was a source of inspiration, so maybe it was based on the "journey" rune upside down and mirrored? Seems to fit once you take the character Gut's arc into account
please come back to youtube.i miss youre videos.i was watching when i was leave in cyprus and now i am in reykjavik.hope i met you for a photo.thanx for everything you do!
Hello, Hrafna. I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your videos. I'm a retired professor of astronomy and physics, and I enjoy watching and listening to vloggers from other nations; I like learning about other cultures without necessarily having to travel there. I also follow two Norwegian vloggers, although both have been absent for a year. One returned yesterday. I follow two Swedish vloggers, but one vanished. I also follow a married couple originally from Sweden who live in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway. In addition, I follow an Irish vlogger from the Dublin area. Recently I have started watching videos from vloggers in Ukraine and Russia, so I may get a better understanding from their perspectives about the war-like activities and the impact on them. I used to follow a lady from Australia, but she moved to Iceland, and married her boyfriend, so that's unique, I think. Thanks again very much for sharing your life and your culture. - Dr David Menke, Tucson, Arizona, USA.
I'd like you to tell some Norse Myth Stories that people outside of the Norse countries likely haven't heard. It's so nice to hear you talk in detail about these things and I really enjoy it!
Just a point on the "cultural appropriation" argument. While it's true that our main source for Nordic mythology is from the Eddas, worship of the Æsir pre-dates the colonisation of Iceland and was not limited to Scandinavia, being a shared tradition in Germanic cultures. Furthermore, the Vikings had a habit of colonising other lands and taking their culture with them. As Iceland was being colonised, half of England was under the Danelaw (the Danes replacing/absorbing Anglo-Saxon people who had previously worshiped the Norse gods). Norse settlers also took much of Northern Scotland, Cumbria, parts of Wales and Ireland, following the same traditions that their relatives were following back home. It's a lucky accident that the mythology was recorded at all and it's probably thanks to Iceland's comparative isolation that the Eddas made it into the written word. "Ownership" of culture is complicated and current day geographical borders aren't always a good way to define it.
If I get approval from one nice Icelandic lady. That it's okay for a non - Icelandic person to get a Viking tattoo then that alone makes my day. 😯 to get a Viking tattoo just shows the like/love you have for the people and their country. 😯😊
Well I might not be Icelandic but my name is a viking name I have a viking surname I grew up in a village with a viking name and I used to walk by a authentic rumestone on my way to work, and I approve of anyone getting a viking tattoo since it is your body and your way of expressing yourself.
Hello! I wanted to share that the tattoo @ 2:55 is actually a Celtic symbol, more specifically an Irish triple spiral, or 'triskele/triskelion'. It is clearly found carved into the prehistoric site of Newgrange (older than the pyramids) in Ireland. Check it out! There is certainly some cross over in the knotwork & symbols between the Norse & Celts, however. Cheers
Ok, small pet peeve. For people writing to Hrafna that they love Viking tattoos and got Vegvisir somewhere on their body: Vegvisir and Ægishjalmur ARE NOT Viking symbols. The oldest dating of Ægishjalmur is from the 16th century and Vegvisir is from the 18th. The Viking Age ended in the 11th Century. They're closer to our time than they are to the Viking Age. Also, a lot of pagans have them bc of their association with galdrabækur but those books also have a lot of Christian influences. Not that there's anything wrong w that, like ppl can still use them as tattoos but just research them a bit more before giving wrong explanations about their origins
Yes, true. For everybody who wants to know more about the real context, please watch the videos of Jackson Crawford (Ph.D). He is an expert in Norse language and mythology and he made also a video about Vegvísir: ruclips.net/video/IROvre0w6hc/видео.html
I want to get "þetta reddast" tattooed. Quite a fit for me (since I know this phrase I use it instead of hakuna matata 😜) Also probably a vegvisir. But if I get those, I want to get them tattooed in Iceland 🙂

The North Remembers. Remember that Norse Culture / Norse Mythology / Norse Paganism is across the entirety of Scandinavia, not just Iceland. I love that many people, from many countries and walks of life enjoy the stories of the old gods and enjoy the whole norse culture thing!
There’s a video game called For Honor, basically it’s a sword fighting game with knights, vikings, samurai, and two other groups. I was wondering if you could react to the Viking voice lines?
So much great tattoos! I love this Mjölnir " coming out the guy's body " ..just fantastic! I wish I knew you asked us for Nordic tattoo pictures...I'd send a picture of my complete back .All tattooed ,all Nordic .
Just got a pair of Valkyrie wings on my arm! Gonna get Algiz in the center eventually ❤️✨my great grandparents were from vastra götaland Sweden and my others were from Ireland and Scotland so I love the Nordic and Druid culture ❤️✨
Not really a fan of tattoos but I’m really interested in learning about Iceland! Your channel sounds awesome, thank you for telling us about Iceland I appreciate it and I’m going to check out your other videos! I’m also really impressed by your English! I do not think I would be able to learn Icelandic very well but never say never! Blessings to you 🙏
One of my tattoos is a half sleeve thats on the inside of my right forearm, it has a forest with the Valknut at the bottom and Huginn flying above, I'm going to get my left arm done to match, but with the Aegishjalmur at the bottom and Muninn flying above
Why do i always get sent to channel's that are currently inactive? Lol either way love the content, always been interested viking stuff, but i never knew much about them outside of pop culture. i learn alot here! (why is icelandic both cool AND incredibly difficult for no damn reason?!?😂)
Love the last tattoos of the Valkyrie and the Ulfhednar. So not a Berserker. Berserkers wear a Bear skins and Ulfhednar wear a wolf skin. Ulfhednar also known to be strong warriors that could work well in teams/groups. While still having their wit’s about them. Like a Wolf Berserkers in the state of Berserk where just mad men without control and regard for anyone. As a single fighter. Like a Bear. Great tattoo’s!💯
Hi @Hrafna, the second one is not a variation of Valknut, it is the Triskle a celtic symbol. I need to say thank you for your videos showing your opinion about people from another folk do a tattoo or use symbol from north culture. ^_^
I just got a stafur gegn galdri tattoo around my forearm I own a copy of the galdra skræða and i really liked the look of it and the meaning and thought it was the perfect galdrastafir to get around my forearm Im slow going to create a sleeve of all Nordic and galdrastafir tattoos i already know I want to get a veldismagn on my elbow and perhaps a Rosahringur minni some where else
Me being American and into Norse paganism and found out I have a bloodline to the Vikings, I have 2 Nordic tattoos at the moment, one I got for my kids, and I apologize I still have issues pronouncing the technical name which is the Helm of Awe with their initials around it, I also have a Fenrir
I live in the uk but I’m originally from Gaelic and Norwegian decent 100s of years ago, I’d love to learn about my ancestors cultures so if someone could point me in the right way I’d appreciate it.
might i suggest reacting to "My Mother Told Me (In Old Norse)" or "If I Had A Heart (Norse Version) - Fever Ray/Vikings" By Colm McGuinness Music, i think you'd enjoy it, he sounds like he gets the pronunciations pretty well
Excellent video! I am interested in getting Norse tattoos on both my forearms, like sleeves/bracelets. I am thinking bands of text in Younger Futhark that are original text and not English text using their rune equivalent. I looked at the Edda and did not find anything suitable. Can you recommend a text or saga that uses runes?
The VA is debating if they want to give me crutches for my re-broke foot. But they say to keep my weight off. hmmmmmmmmm. As long as they don't tell me my pinky toe needs amputated at shoulder level I'll be happy.
You look just like Thrud Thor's Dottir! Anyway what a great game!! Just finished the game and it's almost 3h00 AM where I am lol I should do something with my life
5:04 It's not a rune, it's a Brand of sacrifice from Berserk
Thank you!

lolWEEBz
Actually it’s not a rune itself but is made up of runes. It was common to mix runes into a new symbol for spells that would mean a certain thing.
We're really miss you, Hrafna. Please come back!
Anyone else miss hrafna's RUclips videos?
Yes 😢
A lot of beautiful Nordic tattoos, love when people take time to research their piece and respect the culture where it comes from.

Are you ok? Hope you'll start uploading videos again!
3:00 That's a Triskele or Triskelion, very ancient symbol commonly associated with the Celts but found throughout Europe as far as Greece.
Yes its celtic especially gaelic. Definately not viking

You speak English well, and your is accent original like any other. Thanks.
7:00 I'd hazard a guess that the sleeve tells the story of Ragnarok, since that's probably Jormugandr on the upper arm.
I love when I see a new video from you! I wish you posted more often 😊
Ok, i get it. Everything is super cool and have good placement.
I enjoy your look into Nordic culture and I love you, Hrafna!

Celtic culure was Pagan and Polytheistic before it was forced to convert to Christianity

The problem with vegvisir Tattoo, is that's it's not from the viking age. It dates back to only 1860.
About 100 years earlier and by a British guy I believe
@@TheRedleg69 yes. I meant to type 1860
