    Uh, dude. If a pattern of behavior "gets you in trouble" with your players, consistently, maybe the problem isn't how they INTERPRET that behavior but the behavior itself. Just something to think about.

    The cat wants your attention. Purring is a sign that a cat is open to social interaction. Well some cats interpret that when a human starts talking as a human version of purring, especially if you're speaking in the same tone you use when petting/playing with the cat and especially-especially if you're alone with the cat and talking.

    Just would like to clarify that your cat biting you is actually a love bite and a sign that you are a good owner. Since they do not lick to show affection like a dog will they will instead kneed or love bite. As for me for the D&D stuff I tell it like it is if I do not like something I am very up front about it.

    This is a learning opportunity and you should consider taking lessons from it. You cultivated this experience so consider listening instead of refuting.
    IF this is about you, take it as an opportunity to grow because what you are doing here-mocking your players' "misinterpretations of your intent"-is going to drive them away. The fact that it seems to be hiding that it's about you says everything about how they feel.
    Tread carefully because, to the new viewer, it sounds like you distrust your players in a way that's borderline dislike. If that's not accurate, then consider this all as an enticement to re-examine your DMing instead of obsessing over discord content you think is targeting you.

  • @shawnratashak1296
    @shawnratashak1296 2 месяца назад

    This works both ways. Our group is always trash talking to the DM. On the sessions where we have an odd number of players and don't have a die that can handle random targets, the person who trashes the DM the worst usually earns the "bullseye". That is the number on the die that screws up the ratio. The funny thing is, the DM can never seem to hit the person who has the bullseye.

    My DM had us roll for stats and pick whichever set of rolls we wanted. I rolled pretty ok compared to the others, so we all went with mine.
    While two 16s is better for characters that rely on multiple stats and less good for characters that want one stat to be really high, it definitely feels a lot more balanced than one character having an 18 in something and another having only a 14 as their highest stat.
    I also like the idea of getting multiple tries at rolling, with the option to pick whichever set of numbers you roll. (Like which of these 3 sets you just rolled do you wanna pick?)
    Obviously there's different mechanics that are more balanced, but when you're going for rolled stats anyway, I like to have a few chances to get it right.

      Have you ever just tried to tell her outright, maybe when the other players aren't around? "Hinting" at something is never good, because some people just aren't good at picking up hints. If you want someone to know something, you have to tell them. Suggesting combat-free alternative systems, if you didn't bring this up to her before could also just mean that you think this system is interesting (we do that all the time in our group, playing Pathfinder for the most part but just trying out different systems once in a while for fun) or maybe she could think that YOU don't enjoy combat, because a lot of TTRPG players prefer roleplay and story over combat and would be happy if there was no combat and only roleplay.

    One rule I have for a dm I play with, who has us roll stats, is that they make sure that all stats are roughly equal in power relative to each other. One dm in particular had me outline this further one how I see it would be best to guarantee this. Now, no guarantee but I usually have this rule.
    - only one negative modifier allowed
    - only one stat above 16 (before racial points) allowed. And, of the remaining, only 1 can be between 10-12.
    This will usually keep the stats in roughly the same power level. The only allowances made are a tiny bit for monk characters and this is because the class itself has too many stats it needs to keep itself powerful.
    Now, I’m not a gm. I’m a player. But I am one of those players who has a good back and forth with the various gm’s I play with because I very much enjoy collaboration and am a huge advocate for communication for the sake of clarity. I also and regularly used by the gm’s to ease in new players and help them learn the ropes and provide accurate context for them while still respecting their space and vision.

    Yeah, this is easily overcome by watching them roll but also letting each player pick any of the rolled sets. I often find one player wants a different player's stats because they want two good scores versus one great score or a higher overall average but no standout scores. having multiple rolled sets makes the game diverse while still fair instead of retarded point buy where they pick three 18s and three 8s EVERY time.

    "gotta watch them roll for stats." I had a "dice dropper" in one game. When I caught him I asked to review his character sheet, right then, not after the game to send me the Hero Lab file immediately. He sent it, the lowest stat was his charisma which was a 16....The rest were 18s and two 20's due to racial bonus. Now, statistically that's improbable, and I don't remember him rolling that. I didn't want to blow up the game right there so I took it to email between games. So to curb the dice dropping issue at the next game I was going to give everyone dice cups (like Yahtzee) and told them in an email to use this to roll their attack and damage together. In the email thread he got upset and wanted to get me kicked as DM. I'm still running games with that group 7 years later.

    When you say that people were dropping left and right at the start of your Pathfinder 2 DM career... yeah, early game Pathfinder 2e was BRUTAL for my frontline Ranger too.
    Of course, that was partially my fault- I only had a +1 in Constitution. My party did not have a high Wisdom character other than me, and someone's got to Treat Wounds when there's no Cleric.
    First fight I was left with 1 HP. Third fight I was knocked down to Dying 1, was unable to fully heal because we believed Jamandi Aldori to be in dire need of assistance (we were playing Kingmaker), and, during the next fight, got critted against TWICE by a lady with a big axe (PL+2 fighters are no joke). That's Dying 3- and I had already spent all my Hero Points to save my Bear familiar, WHICH THAT DAMN LADY HAD ALSO KILLED.
    Thank Erastil my party ended the fight before my next turn.

    • @EskChan19
      @EskChan19 2 месяца назад

      It's also worth to mention though that Pathfinder 2E, unlike DnD and Pathfinder 1, kind of WANTS that. It's build to be very tense in combat because with how people can basically treat wounds back to max HP after every encounter and a lot of classes get some ressources back after battle, Pathfinder 2 does not really expect you to get into encounters when you have already drained ressources. DnD and Pathfinder 1 expected you to do dungeon crawls and have many smaller encounters that widdled you down slowly but surely, where the first few encounters would be cakewalks but the further you went the more scarce your ressources became. Pathfinder 2 basically expects everyone to enter combat at max power, because that's just how the system is build. That's why having at least one person who is good at medcine checks is quite important because as long as you have that, you can easily get everyone back to full health after every combat. And that is intentional and by design because they expect you to do that and balanced the game around that. It's a pretty big but subtle change when making the switch.

      You hate point buy and standard array; have you ever tried asking your players what they would prefer? Because, ultimately, it's them who have to put up with those characters forever, not you... and the point of playing dnd is to have fun, but if a character turns out suboptimal it might not be much fun for the player. As both a player and a DM of a couple of decades, I would suggest some flexibility and listening to your players, it always pays off for everybody at the table. May your game be forever joyful 😊

    • @Doodle1776
      @Doodle1776 2 месяца назад

      @@cristiananao294 here's the deal, I set the manner for how the game is played, it's up for community choice. If you are too immature to handle not having a "balanced" PC that fits into a video game-like setup then you are welcome to not play. I currently have 15 players over three games and about to add one other person and you know what, no one has a single issue with it. You're all worried about "suboptimal" meaning that you view it more as a video game and less as a roleplaying game. There's no such thing as suboptimal in a TTRPG. It's not all about power gaming and this is a terrible mindset that has exploded since 3e. I set the circumstances of the game and the way it is played, the players have the option to join or not. For someone who claims to have been in it for decades you haven't seemed to learn that yet or that not every game is for every person. And I'm not going to be passive aggressive about it as you have, I'm simply blunt. I'm not interested in the stupid point buy system, not caring, if you don't like it I don't care.

    Rolling for stats is great in an OSR game where PC survival is not a near given… in a 5e game table where PCs are for the long run generally not such a good idea.

    • @notsochosenone5669
      @notsochosenone5669 2 месяца назад

      On top of that OSR games have "flatter" modifiers (-3 to +3 instead of -5 to +5) and even still have rules like "if sum of your modifiers is less than 0 you can reroll". Biggest problem is to have enough modifiers to play a class you like to play. So you almost never actually feel difference in stats as badly as you can feel it in any modern d20 game.

    I've had a killer DM. He told me once "it's my job to kill you." No joke. I did eventually quit the game, even tho he was a good friend, because he railroaded us into a death trap. I do not say these things lightly. I do not have rpg horror stories, and I'm not easily triggered. He had already killed 4 or 5 of us before that, but those were just hard encounters and bad rolls on our part. BUT... I expect a DM to *joke* about killing the pc's now and then.
    Also, the cat is biting you because it can't tell you to pet it, or you're not petting it in the right place. That's what mine do. Give it some attention, you cruel terrible human. Pet it like Blofeld while you're streaming. Mwahaha!

    I hope that Dm has a confidante he can vent a bit without judgment. I have the same problem of wanting to explode( let them have it!) But there is a time and place and person. I like that Dm caught himself. Well done. Trying to pull the beam outa my eye. Carry on broseph! great content! Love your channel. He is only human. We need to give each other a break.

    GM should not narrate the PC missing, the Player should do so themselves! 😂

    Your impersonation of the Dungeon Dudes was the best thing in this industry. ... if they can't take a joke. Not people I want to hang out with.

    Dude...if someone actually is complaining about your "joking"....maybe they aren't finding it funny? Maybe you should think about whether your authority as DM is making folks feel like they cannot tell you that you aren't funny as you think you are? Sorry, but this video sent up so many red flags to me about your DM style.

    No.
    Rolling for starts doesn't mean your always gonna have a large disparity.
    Rolling for stats and ignoring the single rule that balances it creates large disparency's.
    The rule...
    Once everyones rolled thier stats, everyone can pick any rolled stat set to use, regaurdless of who rolled it. Doing this in 3 campaigns right now, and it's working lovely.

    Whoa! A horror story about you? Now I am intrigued! I always get curious about the other side of the story and how many people lie on others or fabricate an entirely fictional story.

      It’s not clickbait. There was a large portion of the video where he thought the post was about him.

    I am the same way with poking and prodding, ribbing … having fun with them (players) because I think that’s building rapport and most get that… can’t change who I am… Scottish and military veteran (retired) my father is also military (retired) so… sarcasm and ribbing IS the was to show your affection(s). So… I’m in trouble… with the few %ers that have no sense of humor… which seems to be a growing population these days… but, I’m polite and remind them, in case they’ve forgotten where they left the door they came through… here’s you hat, here’s your coat, what’s your rush? Buh-bye. Sorry had a moment…
