    Just because they're not fast doesn't mean that they're slow.

    One of the most satisfying drives, is to take a "slow" car by the scruff, and shake it round a set of twisties, as fast as its limits will allow. From the looks of it, wrangling this Owlet beats EVERYTHING I have ever driven! In fact, I cannot say with any certainty, that I have been nearly as entertained, watching anything else go round a course.

    Toe in? It's Positive camber on the front wheels that make them sit like they do, like Hillman Imp front wheels were the same. Negative camber is the opposite

    I’ve seen Muscle cars being wrung by their big, fat necks, I’ve seen Japanese Twincam cars being treated the same, however nothing but nothing beats a chain driven Frazer Nash!
    At least ‘speed wise’.

    I googeled the license plate. It only says 1496cc. I don't think it has the original horsepower stated on the Frazer Nash wiki page. I would love some more info.

    No differential? How is that possible? Chain drive?

    • @lanceuppercut6168
      @lanceuppercut6168 6 лет назад +6

      Yeah, there's another vid on here that showcases the car bit. It gives an idea of how hard it actually is to steer the car too and let's one appreciate just how amazing it is to run it as fast as he does :D

      This car is a Frazer-Nash. The transmission is shall we say, a little unusual. There's a clutch on the engine flywheel as usual, and it drives a shaft running backwards. Under the seat there's a pair of bevel gears driving a cross-shaft, with four sprockets on it, the gear selector is used to lock (one of) them to the cross-shaft. The rear axle is parallel to this cross shaft, it's simply a solid open shaft, with sprockets on it, driven by chains from the input shaft. So there's a gang of four chains between the input shaft and rear axle, and one of them taking the power. (That's why these cars are referred to as 'Chain Gang' Nashes) And no chance to mount a differential.

      Not really the question you are asking, and there is a very complete answer already, but the majority of what is normally meant by "chain drive" cars and trucks do have a differential.
      Typically the engine drives a gearbox which either incorporates a differential or then drives a second differential mounted to the chassis forward of the rear wheels. Then a chain on each side drives the wheels. For unsprung mass it is a fairly good design and it makes torque reaction very easy to handle as the diff just needs to be solidly bolted to the chassis.

    Lets see how well it does against my 2018 Mustang . It just looks slow to me . I hope you think I am kidding . Because I am . I am just thinking how most Americans thinks . I really own a MGTD Mark 2 . and it is slow but I love these little cars . They are fun to drive and they are I think real cars should be .
