      Second gen camaros especially later ones had amazing suspensions it was really an opposite to the cars 15-20 years before it. Shitty engine good handling. In contrast to the monsters of the 60’s all motor no suspension. You can bet your ass he isn’t running a single oem part in that engine though.

      Daniel Maia I REALLY want a pre-facelift first-gen Camaro in a dark colour now (i.e. like the Faberge one). Don't like the facelift (e.g. Bastos car) so much.

    • @richardharrold9736
      @richardharrold9736 9 лет назад

      ***** Sorry, yes, that's what I meant - don't know why I wrote first-gen!

    • @richardharrold9736
      @richardharrold9736 9 лет назад +1

      ***** I really just prefer the second-gen, I think it's better-looking and has a much nicer interior. A modernised engine and IRS conversion could make it a very nice, usable Pro-Touring type road car with enough performance to deal with a lot of modern cars.

    • @richardharrold9736
      @richardharrold9736 9 лет назад

      ***** There are some IRS swaps around. It probably wouldn't be too hard to swap in the rear end from a rusted-out old Jag, for example. I've seen people work wonders with live axles, but you can't get rid of that unsprung weight unless you go IRS. That said, the SD1 did well enough on its live axle, even though it replaced the far more sophisticated P6, which had a semi-trailing-arm IRS with a split De Dion tube, leading arms and a Watt's linkage, or something like it... www.curbsideclassic.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/rear-suspension.jpg

    Everything racing should be. Street cars stripped and equipped for racing. No crazy aero (Chin spoiler and deck spoiler or small wing), no monstrous engine upgrades, rather permissive as to what cars are allowed (Mini coopers Vs Camaros vs FB RX-7s Vs Ford Capris vs et al), drifting as natural and necessary technique to get around faster...
    This is what I picture as real Trans-Am being, with more American cars and newer cars naturally. But still. THIS IS WHAT AMERICA NEEDS. Not a mildly tweaked NASCAR, or Indycars that look like insane collections of shaving razors. Car people can buy from the local dealer, that you or you friend/neighbor/rival may be driving, out actually racing.
    Oh! BTW, Subscribed!

      Rover went to crap after dumping out that Buick motor. The 215 is a rare thing here in the USA because it’s dwarfed by other v8s of the time and cars got bigger after it was made but I love how Britain took and expanded on the engine. They really made it breathe as soon as they had their hands on it. Good breathing is a thing all Buick motors struggle with. I should know.

      @@theeoddments960 In the early 90s Rover were developing a KV8 to replace it but it just didn't produce enough torque. They lopped off two cylinders though - hence why the KV6 had a 90-degree vee.

    Chris' videos really come alive with his 'journeys'. The car reviews are ok but it's the journeys and adventures that he does that really help bring the viewer along....

    Awesome stuff! It looks like at the end of the day, lightness and agility certainly helps, but horsepower is the easiest advantage to exploit.

    Brilliant video once again, thank you Chris & Neil and the rest of the people involved. The last Goodwood video you did a couple of years ago is up there as one of my favourites on youtube. The noise off that grid was immense!!

    Another brilliant video Chris, Goodwood is such a good venue for making these type of videos and your ability to get a drive in a competitive car has to be the icing on the cake. Your drive in the Lister is still my favorite, but this one is right up there with it and I hope that Chris Ward gets a few more fans from his epic drive on your channel. Hopefully we will see some more racing from Goodwood now you are part of their team. As ever none of this happens without Neil so as usual "I take my hat off to you sir."

    It's official. Harry Metcalfe from Evo plus Chris Harris from /Drive plus Tiff Nedell from 5th Gear would make the ultimate next generation hosts for British Top Gear. Matt, Mike, and Jay Leno would be pretty good in America as well (although I think Tanner Foust does a great job currently).

    congratulations on your P2 - great drive from both of you! Very nice to see those different car's dicing, not to mention racing with cars that actually slide and go fast at the same time is soooo much more fun towatch than it is now with the super grippy tires and super stiff suspensions. Good stuff!
