Dang, that would have been awesome. Wrestlemania 39 was my very first Wrestlemania. Edges entrance was awesome, and it would have been GOATED with Gangrel. Oh well. Maybe someday in AEW.

People do remember, and even if you fear people not reacting, it's Wrestlemania. The people who travel to Wrestlemania know. Anything that happened in the attitude era, people remember.

That's one location. If you've ever watched a WWE show from Corpus Christi TX then you know sometimes the crowds just inherently suck.

It really does depend on the crowd. If it was in front of a hardcore wrestling crowd, whether it be casual or legitimately hardcore fan base, I think more people would have reacted to the cosplay.

Nah the other guy is right, his gimmick was great but that’s about it. Nothing against him I really liked the character and the brood faction, but Im not going to pretend he had unrecognized potential, it’s pretty well known he didn’t really put much effort into his work in the wwf.

such an out of touch thought to think "no body remembers". I'm pretty sure wrestling is still as big as it is because of the entire nostalgia industry that thrives to this day. First from wrestlers making comebacks, then the conventions, and now the seemingly endless amount of podcasts about the business, especially the 90's era.
"wrestling fans will remember" not always, Not even most of the time. in internet it might seem like it but when we have a huge collab of moments WWE brought people back but the crowd didnt either know or remember they were. It's very plausible that Gangrel would have met dead silence.

I agree with you to a degree, I think most people don’t remember but it’s also a case of knowing when to do something like this, it has to be in front of a more hardcore crowd, and wrestlemania probably is the case.

Like night 1 of Wrestlemania 40 was almost dead. crowds like France Backlash are very rare. Like no kidding the french made philly look tame. You are relying that A. People who were around when the returning star was active are in the crowd, B. There is enough of them to give a shit. C.That the crowd is interacting with what is happening at all. We have had legends return to WWE to dead silent crowds. People might carry on cheering for A returning legend if the momentum is on. But given that we have had PPV's with dead crowds. and recently had Half of WM and Royal Rumble both have very silent ones. I wouldnt say that just the occasion would have people expecting it.

I was about say has it really been that long since gambrel was in WWE then I realized the last time he was there was on smackdown in 2004 so abut 20 years now

People DEF would have remembered. I’m 33 and grew up with the Brood. WWE has some odd lines of thinking… wouldn’t Triple H know the fans would remember Gangrel?
I loved The Brood however I don’t think WWE has done enough reminding / promoting of the group since 1998. Probably a hard sell. I’m a fan so I’d love it but WWE should include The Brood in their promo packages and stuff to remind folks how good the group was and how much fans enjoyed it.

It's even more ridiculous that it wouldn't really cost anything. I think it's simply moreso that in recent years, WWE, for better or worse, doesn't want to bring in "outsiders" for one-off special appearances, unless they're under a WWE legends contract & exclusive to WWE (& have to be big enough). Pros and cons.
Edge didn't get Gangrel in his Brood entrance at WM39. Cody didn't get Cardona or, more importantly, Dustin / Goldust at WM40. WWE would prefer to use their legends, like sweatpants Taker, rather than tell the best story, which, in some ways, makes sense, especially for the casual fan. Bring out all the big past names for the finale of Wrestlemania. Cardona 100% would have done it and was in town (possibly backstage), but he's been very clear he doesn't want to be exclusive & wants to keep doing indies, TNA, etc. As for Goldust, previously AEW had basically offered to let WWE use a person, but didn't want $, all they wanted was a passing shout-out on air, like "but he wrestles in AEW" and that was a hard no for HHH. Robbed us of the best ending. But it makes sense in some ways business wise.
IWC isn't the entire fan base. Grand Master Sexay returned after just 10 years in 2011 to a pin drop silence from the crowd. Gangrel is at least 20 years in the rear view mirror.
I think this is a little misconstrued to WWE Exec's probable view, and I dont think it was intentional on Edge's part in saying it. I doubt WWE execs were saying that no one remembers the history. They were saying they didn't believe people remembered the Brood outside a niche audience. Remember, during this return run of Edge's, they had Edge and Angle skits, Edge and Rey callbacks, Cena and Edge had interaction, Edge and Christian had a Rumble moment, Edge and Orton got their moments, etc. I think they worried the Brood was too niche for their majority audience. Which would mean Gangrel may not be worth the money for them to bring in.
weird that they would say no one will remember when wwe (at least used to) heavily rely on bringing back older wrestlers without giving them a story.

Judging by the reaction the Brood theme got, seems it was a good idea to shut it down.
I think what makes WWE nervous about fans "not remembering" - ill never forget when Sid Vicious showed up about a decade ago (give or take a few years) and it was SILENT. No pop, no cheer/boo, nothing. Same thing when Evolution got back together against the Shield. The Evolution theme is playing, its great to see those 3 together again, no reaction. Instead the crowd does a "yes" chant wanting Daniel Bryan of all people. There's a big risk bringing back someone whos not legendary status like Austin, Rock, Bret, etc. Nobody wants to go out there and the crowd not react to them.

I mean having him wouldn't have taken away from the entrance especially since edge starting use the brood theme again. If gangrel went out there and got no reaction at least you know it didn't work rather than thinking it wasn't going to work. Didn't wwe also think the rock was gonna get cheered straight after cody said he ain't fight roman until he got booed heavily the next raw and had to change plans

So if they said no to Gangrel because no one remembers anymore, why did they say yes to the Brood theme? If there's anyone who remembers the Brood, they will remember Gangrel, Edge and Christian as the three of them.

They prob said no for 2 reasons.... 1. Gangrel has directed porn movies, 2. Gangrel is character from some sorta card game and WWE have to buy the licence to use it on TV.
I kinda agree with you partially but not on the porn directing. He did that seperate from the Gangrel character so it's likely not a big factor. The issue lies with WWE never owning the rights to the name Gangrel. I remember the credits or Raw always mentioned Gangrel being the property of White Wolf productions. They would likely gouge the price for them to use the name, damn I would do it too if I owned the name. I'm guessing Vince was glad to be rid of him once he realized they were paying another company for his name. 🤷🏻

It's sad that even The New Day dressed up as The Brood had little reaction from the WWE Universe.
Maybe that's another reason WWE didn't want to bring back Gangrel.

Hell, they didn't even have a super massive problem with it at the time either as they had put her in a storyline with the newly formed Right to Censor, which was a whole faction making fun of the people that were up in arms about the violence, sexuality, and so on of WWE at the time, and the fact that China had done shoots for Playboy.
