me too I thought audio fx didnt do much but OMG I found out how to make a cool sound with only an ableton preset synth and an auto filter. This guy is a boss.
My God, every video gets me closer and closer to buying a midi fighter. maybe 2 keep up the sick videos. going to a moldover workshop next week. that will be the clincher im sure
I couldn't get this working, but started working once I upgraded to Ableton 10 (weird, since this video is prior to Ableton 10). I have my Midi Fighter in Ableton mode (I think I have all default settings other than that). Haven't tried with any other controllers yet.
Does this technique of momentary effects only work with the midi fighter line of midi controllers, or does this work for any class compliant midi controller?
Can I ask if there will be another limited edition run of the Midifighter Pro coming about anytime soon? Or maybe one that uses the new Midifighter 3d? Because if so I'll hold out on buying the 3d.
Insane skills my friend. :-) I not clear on what purpose pressing another control while holding the chosen control serves, is this specifically applicable to the control device ur using? Normally I can make my controls momentary or "grab" style thru settings in the midi-mapping window in live and with the settings of my control surface (not a midifighter). Thanks for the vid.
super like friend it was really a comprehensive learning .. One request is for aspiring Djs who don't get a chance for professional training but passionate about creating music.. u can help them by teaching step by step learning ... (Ex: familiarizing with Traktor software, some hardware components etc)and doing some online assignments ..
I'm having trouble using beat repeat the way you are. I have my mf utility set to ableton mode, I'm clicking MIDI and pressing the buttons the way you described, and I have my MIDI set to track and remote. It maps the devices and when I press the buttons, it clearly shows that it's affecting the beat repeat but I don't hear the effect.
Awesome. Momentary button setup is a pain in the ass, and this looks much like an elegant solution. But I couldn't do it either with my MPD, is that a specific feature of the MIDI Fighter ? Has anyone figured out ?
dude I don't know. It doesn't work for me either. I've never seen anybody doin that. The closest thing I've done was midi mapping a suite of midi notes to a parameter. I don't get how it's working.
Do you have the controller in Ableton mode (in the MF Utility) if so... and you're still having the problem, is your default assign style toggle? or momentary? the pro is the one I use so it should be exactly the same
Holding a button and pressing another just makes it assigned to a range. It doesn't make it momentary. That was probably a setting in the Midi Fighter. Tried on my APC40, and it didn't become momentary anyway.
At 1;00, using that midi assigning technique. Is that Midi Fighter specific? It has to be because every mid controller I have utilizes some kind of software editor to accomplish momentary assignments. If this is just a workaround that has been in ableton all along I will kick myself and then lol. Cant wait to get home just to test this out:)
hello Mad - hope, you can read this message , i arm trying doing momentary button with Push 2 , i dont know how i can do it, ?? pleases help : ), thank, and positive vide.........
Is there no other name for that special key? Indoctrination in progress >.< Tinfoilhat on. A bit off-topic.. sorry :) On topic question though: Can you play back the original sound that you scratch or use to beatmash? It's so hard to see exactly what it is that you do. Good video!
i was wonderin if buyin Ableton Live 9 intro would be a good idea. i got the FL demo and i was wantin 2 try Ableton but idk wats in Ableton Live 9 Intro and wat isnt.
when i assign midi mapping to a midi note on my mpd (&ableton 8) there is no 0-127 range which i can swap like mad zach does and there is in cc... do i have to hook up my mpd differently so that i'm triggering cc values with the pads? any clue? thx in advance
really? Idk why it's not working for me.. Do you set your controllers in a particular ways or you just plug em in, midi map mode, press one button then another one and let go of the first and that's it? Dude I don't get it it's bugging me SO MUCH
My mind is blown... but I'm not sure why. Why would you need to make momentary assignments? Is it because you only have so many buttons but want to have more diversity in your effects?
The Godfather of Controllerism. I’ve rediscovered my twister midifighter recently. Only just started exploring sequencer mode, (hold in 2nd left & right side buttons) with Ableton template, maps.djtechtools.com/mappings/2878 Great fun. Instant beats. And hands on. Not staring at the screen. When you replace drum rack samples with your own it goes to next level.
me: oh great, there IS a way to make notes momentary instead of just CC's. Ableton didn't tard out on this obvious feature as I thought. *tried 5 times with launchpad before realizing the *MIDI FIGHTER* must be switching to sending CC's instead of notes when 2 buttons are pressed simutaneously* *sighs*
I thought I knew how to use ableton until I started watching MadZach tutorials.
This mate is solid gold.
me too I thought audio fx didnt do much but OMG I found out how to make a cool sound with only an ableton preset synth and an auto filter. This guy is a boss.
This tutorial is ahead of it's time

Man this dude is a professor in Ableton Live!!!!
I couldn't get this working, but started working once I upgraded to Ableton 10 (weird, since this video is prior to Ableton 10). I have my Midi Fighter in Ableton mode (I think I have all default settings other than that). Haven't tried with any other controllers yet.
I'm trying to assign momentary function to the pads on a Novation Launch Control but it's not working. Any advice?
Blaine Dylan be in User mode. I had to learn this but on the XL
Does this technique of momentary effects only work with the midi fighter line of midi controllers, or does this work for any class compliant midi controller?
i tried it with mapping keys over iac-bus. failed. i'm very curious too how its done.
love Mad Zach!
Thank you Mad Zach - you are truly Mad. :)
Does the momentary programming only work midifighter or would it work on any midi assignment in ableton
you're a midinut Zach! love your style
Man this guy is brilliant..
Can I ask if there will be another limited edition run of the Midifighter Pro coming about anytime soon? Or maybe one that uses the new Midifighter 3d? Because if so I'll hold out on buying the 3d.
Insight !!! Thank you Mad Zach

I have that same Peavey Mixer. I have the 8 channel one.

whoa i didn't even know that i could do shit like this!!!
thanks man!
yes more ableton videos!!
This is cool, but is there a way to assign multiple buttons to the same parameter to emulate the sort of beatmashing the fighters allow in Traktor?
show us the custom midifighter (with a cd mounted to it?) on your shelf!! at 00:32
Mad Zachs Hair all the way!

Oh Zach, Yu so CRAZaY!

i was wonderin if buyin Ableton Live 9 intro would be a good idea. i got the FL demo and i was wantin 2 try Ableton but idk wats in Ableton Live 9 Intro and wat isnt.
Now I have to get a midi fighter
you have to keep the first button down while you tap another button and let it go, then let go of the first button :)
i am trying to do what he did with the beat repeat but it isn´t changing please help
mabey its because i am using live 9
for which controller?
when i assign midi mapping to a midi note on my mpd (&ableton 8) there is no 0-127 range which i can swap like mad zach does and there is in cc... do i have to hook up my mpd differently so that i'm triggering cc values with the pads?
any clue?
thx in advance
That is way cool.
How about one button sending a note on message on pressing down AND a note off message on release. That's momentary right?
does this work with say the launchpad? or only midi fighter?
As Tony The Tiger used to say in my day: Greeeeeeeeeeat
What sample is the Chinese harp thing?
you can do the same thing with an F1 or any midi controller, theyre just using the midi fighter as an example
Nice!!!!
I Love It That Guy Is Awesome & Cool!
his hair is fucking awesome
sick hoody
wow this is genius
Such good information, though not quite marketed and concisely portrayed as it could be
It works with any.. I use it all the time on my Launchpad/Akai Midi controller
really? Idk why it's not working for me.. Do you set your controllers in a particular ways or you just plug em in, midi map mode, press one button then another one and let go of the first and that's it?
Dude I don't get it it's bugging me SO MUCH
I wish it was that easy
My mind is blown... but I'm not sure why. Why would you need to make momentary assignments? Is it because you only have so many buttons but want to have more diversity in your effects?

i swear you guys are midi fighter advertisers. you use those things for everything lol

Well shit, I had no idea you could do that. The more you know.
works for me....
this doesn't give me momentary, it just makes one button turn on and another button (the second one pressed) turn it off
way cool
my own build teensy based controller
Top
woooooooooooow
If an earthquake happens you're screwed.
Considering its pretty much a direct competitor to the midi fighter possibly never.
Maybe he locked his bike in house but lost the key.
Jean-Ralphio?
no one will give him a haircut.
that's probably because they make and sell them?!
this doesn't work for the push2
daymmmm, any idea how it could?
i have no idea ..still trying to find out
what are you mad about Zach?

Ableton is only worth it if you have a midi controller.
