Hey Tim, thanks for that info. Sounds like some impressive specs! Competition is good and it’s alway good to have choices when a purchaser is cross shopping. Smart people cross shop.
No thanks for new style trucks because they always lying to customers that it will be so cheap that most people can afford when in reality most of us can’t afford it.
@@burntvirtue no there is for sure, just seems like people like to complain to complain, there’s a reason negative reviews on vehicles gets all the views vs positive ones.
If you recall, Toyota already has a cheap truck below Tacoma/Hilux. It is called Hilux Champ and it is primarily for the Southeast Asian market. If there is a compact truck demand in South America, they could have sold the Hilux Champ in those regions given they also have a lax safety standards and this one is actually built on the body-on-frame rear-wheel-drive IMV platform. So either, this rumor is not true or if it is true, it would be more like the smaller Hyundai Santa Cruz/Ram Rampage/Chevy Montana competitor rather than Ford Mavaerick
Either give us a rear seat that's actually usable, or a bed that is (6ft bed) or both. Don't do the usual compromise which makes it neither useful as a passenger car OR a small utility truck.
This is the compact truck I can see Toyota bringing here. The Hilux Stout is way more utilitarian and would be a contractors dream but, as Tim said, this truck hits the sweet spot of the sales pool. Having an engine that's already in use in the United States and Canada just makes it that much easier to build. Let the minitruck wars begin!
I just came back from a Caribbean cruise. I saw small pickups from Nissan, Mazda and Kia. Brands that don't offer small pickups in the USA or Canada. I don't think we'll see this Toyota compact truck anytime soon in North America. The small trucks are already out there. The manufacturers think we only want large trucks, so they don't make them available to us.
It's not that they aren't wanted, plenty of US consumers to buy them. The government doesn't want you to though. The United States tariff on imported trucks is 25%, also known as the "Chicken Tax". This tariff was imposed in 1964 by President Lyndon Johnson in response to tariffs on American chicken.
No thanks, this concept has its place, but not for me. I'm Still wishing for an updated 1990 Toyota PU xtracab basic truck, with a utilitarian/off road focus. Dead simple and reliable please.
@@Random1234-j8d This right here is the whole problem with the truck market. Guys running around in jacked up trucks with wheel spacers and all terrains to make themselves look tough. They NEVER go offroad and they don't even own anything to tow. Now take me for example... The most I would tow is about 3500 lbs. I might do some light off roading. Most of the time I am conducting business! I'm not gay... I have a brain.
They need to get their other 2 trucks problems figured out first. Hopefully the Tacoma will be coming back to Texas, to avoid the tariffs. Oddly being built in Mexico and their still the same price. Toyota is getting too greedy.
Toyota has been building Tacomas in Mexico for 20 years. Toyota has been building vehicles in Mexico for several decades. That probably won't change any time soon.
Trump should revoke the chicken tax 🐔 on day one which has been keeping small trucks out of the US market and we could have the Rampage and Hilux here within months.
Will flop because it doesn't offer traditional Toyota virtues of low price combined with steller levels of mechanical simplicity/reliability/durability.
A small Toyota truck would be the second most important new truck. The most important compact truck will be the electric TELO. The Telo is the length of a 2-door Mini Cooper, with 350 miles of range, 500 horsepower, 10 inches of ground clearance, all wheel drive or 2WD option, and an 8-foot bed with the mid gate down. Tesla founders Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning are two of the famous investors in the Telo truck.
And it will only cost $70k. Toyota is the largest debt holder of any company in the world...hence their insane price increases. I'll stick with my old beater...let these new cars rot on the lot.
BYD will own Honda/Nissan within 5yrs. Foxconn will own Toyota in. 7 yrs. GMFORD will be totally own by US govt in 3 yrs! BMW, VW, Benz will be own by ZEEKR, NIO, HUAWE. & TATA!
I was in Mexico earlier this year and they have tons of smaller trucks we should totally have.

So funny all these whiners will complain it doesn’t have enough power and not enough this and that, seems like people just like to complain online
So there's no validity to the complaints?
Rick, sounds like a break from YT comments is needed?

The mall ninjas had to go somewhere now that most of the malls have closed.
You mean no V8? 😂
I think it has really good potential. Especially if they can keep pricing competitive which may be an issue with upcoming tariffs

Finally some competition for the maverick. Hopefully doesn’t look like that though . The maverick still has truck look to it
Thanks for the info Tim. Hope you are correct!
I will keep my Ridgeline! Honda has done an incredible job!
The only thing harder then telling your family your gay. Is telling them you drive a RidgeLine.

Yup, the only thing you missed was the truck balls hanging off the 10” lifted truck. Maverick is selling really well, bring back a small truck.

Metal debris in the engine, transmission and axles optional? Or standard equipment????
Ouch!
All new engines have some metal debris.
I wonder if where it’s built will prevent it from reaching the US?
They would find room in a U.S. plant.
@ cheers Tim. For some reason I went straight to San Antonio in my head. But as you point out with it being a monocoque, they could use any plant.

Can guarantee it will be overpriced, like the 70k 4 cylinder Tacoma/4runner and 80k tundra. Yet it will still be outclassed.
You're exaggerating. Your point is diminished when you have to lie.

You can get a Tacoma SR DC 4x4 under $40k out the door at some dealers. It’s actually fairly well equipped, even has push button start.
40k top top top model
oh hey more compact pickups that more match my hilux 92 in size...
I hope Toyota price this sexy baby pickup truck reasonably cheaper then Camry le 😂😂😂
Global Hilux is 20 to 30% smaller than Nth American Tacoma so not a first cousin...maybe 2nd or 3rd..😂
Iff Toyota price it right it will sell well ,but they wont will they
2.5 4 cylinder would be better...
I trust these new Toyota's like I trust the Biden administration with this Drone Bullshit.
Some get Biden entertainment. And some get orange entertainment. Same circus.
Ram Rampage
Toyota isn’t as reliable any more
Just test drove over a 2025 Tacoma four-wheel-drive. Pure junk. I doubt a new truck will be much different.
