On May 23, 2013, a Boeing 747 departed Terminal 3 at John F. Kennedy International Airport. To some, it was just a normal flight, when in reality, it was the last flight ever the former Pan American Worldport.
Delta plans to destroy this amazing building just for airplane parking spaces- not even gates, just an empty lot for airplanes. Delta 'believes' that the terminal is dusty and worn down that it can no longer be used. While it may be a little dirty in some parts (check in area) as you'll see in this video as I walk through the ENTIRE Worldport/Terminal 3, it is can be reused easily with just some minor touch ups and it is indeed worth saving.
Please visit: savetheworldport.org to see what you can do.
This video is not a farewell but it's a vision to show you how selfish Delta and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey would be if they were to continue on their plan to tear down this vital piece of history. This building is the Ellis Island of air travel. Since 1960, this building is where millions of people first touch American soil. Like the Statue of Liberty, this building is an American icon, and to destroy the entire building is a crime.

thanks so much for preserving history, i arrived at this terminal for my very first trip to the USA back in 2005. Have visited often since. Thanks from Europe.

Thanks for saving at least this much of this historic structure, at least. I know the rear addition to the Worldport was pretty much universally hated, but I'll never forget getting to drive under the jetbridges of of the old building whenever I needed to drop-off somebody, and _mm-mmm_ that rooftop parking, before it was closed for "security purposes".
And although I never got the chance, for some reason, I always wanted to eat at that Burger King ;)

I spent 26 years in that Building i was very sad to see it close down but it was time . It was in very bad shape it would have cost to much to bring it back to its Glory still I will always have great memories of all my Marriott and HMS Host workers

There's a lot of factors that closed it down, though perhaps they could've destroyed the south concourse and kept the saucer as a shopping or eating center/connecting point between T2 and T4. Sad indeed to see it go, wish I could've spent as much time as you did in it!

Maybe it could have been some sort of aviation museum if they tried to restore it.

What could be some uses for the building? Vendor support, employee daycare, tourism bureau, lounge for travelers to rest before next flight, resturaunts, day spas, a gym + sauna, an aviation museum, a pet kennel/hotel, play area for kids (with mini golf, arcade, lazer tag, ball crawl), mini movie theatre or any combination of the above. All could make some revenue for the airport.

R.I.P Terminal 3: 1955 To 2013. Next they will demolish terminal 7, then terminal 2

Very sad to think about it in it's current state, devoid of the Delta sign and it's halls rendered lifeless :(

To be honest, New York JFK actually was and is a very nice airport. I really miss the good ol Pan Am terminal. It was the best.

They should have just clean up the mess in the saucer building to look more like when it opened (add a small bar and museum gallery in the stone rose/burger king area), add carpeting everywhere as the tiles look a bit dated, decorate the ceiling so it looks nicer(add some patterns, lines, ect), decorate the wall separating the landside and airside part of the terminal (murals, art, or revert it to the original mirror when Pan Am used it) and done, it will look like new.

Why did this terminal had to close?

They said that the place was bad and too expensive and impractical to save

Funny you should mention that; on our site (savetheworldport. org) we actually have listed a lot of possible re-uses, and you named a lot of them! Great minds think alike, huh? Haha, personally, I think it would make for a great Delta SkyClub, or a lounge in general and incorporate the Worldport into the design of the planned connector between T2 & T4.
