This is such an important conversation for Christians to have. I think the confusion comes from the prosperity movement in the church, that was rooted in naming it and claiming it. This led to scriptures like Romans 4:17 being mishandled. 17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. It is God, not us that speaks things into existence and furthermore, we're given no instruction to do that. God has given us the freedom to pray and ask him for the things we want and if these things are apart of God's wheel house for us, then he will respond and if they aren't, He won't. Manifestation derives from New Age practices that puts us in the driving seat. Manifestation has no place in the church. If we want something, work hard for it and if the Lord permits, we'll attain it. The potential issue with gazing at a thing, longing for a thing and the blind pursuit of a thing is, it can become an Idol. Christians must tread carefully with this. James 4:13-16. God bless you all. ❤
It's different because we (people of faith in Jesus) speak things into existence within the confines of God's word. This is not the case with new age principle of manifestation.
I wish more focus and time was given to discussing God’s favour and unconditional love. Our Father does not give conditionally and gives without bias. And for me manifestation or Law of Attraction is about believing in God’s goodness. It is potentially incorrect to say manifestation is focused on oneself, but truly this is about giving our desires to The Universe (God) and believing in providence. Ultimately The Universe is for us, not against us, despite all the inequities and hopelessness we see in todays world. We all can believe for good things whether we are Christians or not. “…do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body…For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom… yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!.. Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labour… how much more will he clothe you - you of little faith!” (Luke 12 v 22-28 NIV) “…This is what God does. He gives his best - the sun to warm and the rain to nourish - to everyone, regardless: the good and bad, the nice and nasty.” (Mathew 5 v 45, The Message) “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” (Ephesians 3 v 26, KJV)
