    I mix in the box, but must have the console sound. Brainworx makes a very convincing SSL 4072 G plugin. I also have the E, and the 9000 J console strips, but I personally like the sound of the 4000 G. This is cool to see the console itself as it gives me ideas on how to properly setup the channel strips in my DAW to emulate the process of the console. Whether or not it gets the sound perfectly accurate to the console is not a big deal to me, I just like to give the sound color, and I like powerful SSL sound, and ofc I really like the console workflow, just turning knobs, and faders, then moving to the next channel. I like mixing with my ears instead of my eyes.

      you can absolutely emulate an ssl console on your DAW, saves you a lot of money too. nothing like the real thing

    I'm so excited... I just got an SSL SiX .. the "poor mans" SSL.... amazing sound quality, but now I need to figure out what all those buttons and knobs do!

    Very weird, but maybe there is a reason in that studio, the channel busses aren't half normalled. Every studio I was ever in, the patch bay was half normalled to the tape machine so there was never any need to patch every Channel to your recording destination. In fact, I'd trust an elco connection over a patchbay TT any day.
    Cool video though.

      It's just the same dozen buttons repeated for each track in your song, so it's much simpler than it looks. Each channel does the same thing.

    Hello thanks for this video. Question: Why on SSL console the dynamic section is placed before the EQ, and in most of the SSL Channel Strip plugin the dynamic section is placed after the EQ? Question 2: What do you prefer, EQ -> Dyn or Dyn -> EQ?? What's the common use in the history please?

    One of the reasons I like Reason as my DAW is for having an SSL built into it.

    I have a question how similar is Reason Daw Mixer (Which is an unofficial emulsion of the classic SSL 9000) compared to the a real SSL mixer?

    The console sound is definitely different than in the box. The sounds are different. Can you mix in the box? Sure. Would I? Hell no.

    Unfortunately the large format consoles are a dying breed that's been on the decline for the past 16 years that's starting to phase out. AMS/NEVE, SSL and Rupert Neve Designs have shifted to smaller foot print cut down consoles as Hybrid mixing and in the box is becoming the new standard. The Argosy Console desks are replacing a lot large format analog desks in favorite of Hybrid Mixing in the box with outboard gear and plugins. Many of the smaller cut down consoles like the SSL Origin are housed in an Argosy Eclipse console desk or similar to give it a larger foot print.

    • @HOLLASOUNDS
      @HOLLASOUNDS 2 года назад

      I think I'd fast get back pain leaning over the desk like that, I think is just easier cheaper and quicker just to use Reason DAWs SSL copied mixer with a mouse and midi controller.

    • @eman0828
      @eman0828 2 года назад

      @@HOLLASOUNDS No I don't its that. It's just they cost a lot to maintain and hardly anyone record large bands anymore these days given that production these days have been more electronically sequenced making less channels used on large format console. Most guys still want that Neve or SSL console feel so they would opt for a smaller cut down size console typically housed in Argosy or Sterling Modular Desk. Large format consoles are also also pain to move from location to the next as you have to dismantle entire console and remove each channel strip bucket and power supply. Argosy console desks are easy break down and maneuver.
