oh, when in an art class, the professional artist told us to buy canvases from the dollar store too. Then we put on a coat of gesso! The canvas always is sold with gesso on it but she made us paint another coat on it or even two. I learned that the gesso helps to give "tooth" and helps the paint to adhere better which makes it last longer on the canvas. Here is another tip for you: if you ever get a canvas that has a bulge on it, that the canvas has kind of an air wrinkle to it or is loose on the frame, get a misting water bottle and spray the back of the canvas. Let it dry. It will tighten it up and your wrinkle will be gone. I had a few canvases that were like that and it works like a charm! pronounce gesso like JESS-SO :)
@@AllThingsGrace we are all hawaian lovers, well, lots of people. Hawaian themes warm hearts. I miss Maui so i need to make some art to rekindle my memories. Cheers!
you might want to look in youtube for "Bas-Relief" or Plaster Art. I found a cool one where the artist makes a figure out of plaster on the canvas! Channel is: Bell de la Vega. Arte.
I covered an entire board, but round the edges, when I pressed on the canvas where the wood is at the back, it cracked all the way round. So it didn't work for me. However I did find you when doing a search in filler art... lol
Sometimes the cheapest items do not make the best art. For an example, a friend used my special art supply glue made by Golden and then she went to the dollar store and bought a tube of cheap gel glue to adhere gems onto her art. Told me how wasteful I was using such expensive stuff when hers was better and did the same thing. It was only a few weeks and her gems were falling off onto the floor. The art that that she used my art glue are still stuck on after a year. Sometimes you see the value immediately and sometimes you don't. It depends on how long you want your art to last too. Paint may look the same to people that have never used art quality paint. Cheaper paint uses less pigment so you use more to get the depth of color you want if you ever get it. Art quality gives better coverage and color. I have used both and I do prefer the artist quality more but I cannot afford the best all the time. Practice and play are too stressful if cost is an issue and that goes against the word PLAY. Finding out if something is worth using the good stuff on before spending extra is good too. Good for you on exploring art and having fun with it!

I use gesso on battles, wood, paper, and all kind of material before painting them Sorry, my english is very poor. . . .
@@marthajaimes3928 Your English is fine, you get your thought across! Gesso is a wonderful base for most projects. :)
