I'm from Rhode Island and I've always wanted to be a reenact, but I can't afford to buy much gear, also I can't find any events nearby. How could I get into reenacting? Any advice? should I save up to buy gear?
I always considered McClellan an incompetent leader because he had the battle won and yet squandered several opportunities to oust Lee from the North, why didn't General Buford relieve him of command and take command himself? Granted Buford wasn't a Major General as McClellan was but he had the leadership and he also wouldn't have just waited, but I also believe McClellan's orders to Burnside to waste the lives of 10,000 federal troops was ill conceived, clearly McClellan was so worried about being conservative and keeping troops that he essentially could have just handed General Lee an unexpected yet much needed victory for the Confederates at Antietam!
How can I play a part in a battle reinactment? I have ancestors who fought on the side of the Union, and I would love to participate in a reinactiment. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Craig, I am producing a documentary on Fort Heiman, a civil war fort in my area. I would love to use these films as b-roll in my documentary with your permission. Would you be okay with me using these clips in my production? It is a non-profit film as I am a television student. Thanks.
+Craig Shipp Thanks so much! CraigShipp.com will definitely appear in the credits and I will be happy to send you a link to the film once it's completed. Thanks again Craig, I have watched your channel for some time now and really enjoy your videos on watches!
Hey Craig, read this link : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americana,_S%C3%A3o_Paulo After 1866, several Confederate refugees from the American Civil War settled in the region. "American City" (state S.Paulo) in Brazil. I living around.
I read in a book the average weight was 143.4 lbs ages and 18-45 were enlisted into the army. I get your point though. I'm 168 lb and 5.9 and 18 years old.. I agree with you to an extent but most guys my age including myself are getting ready to go to college or already in it and can't make all the events but the older guys who already have pretty much went to school and have a good paying job can do it. But the weight problem is kinda ridiculous I can't explain that.. hahaha
When the union lost gen phil kearny. At chantilly va 2nd Manassas. The union lost a real fighter the union needed general s like Kearny shermen n grant. Early on. McClellan. Always. Retreating
Average age of a civil war soldier 25 years, average height 5'7, average weight 137 ... just saying, if you're going to "honor" them at least lets try to keep it looking legit. I'm a reenactor myself, and I feel I look the part. I just get so irritated when I see 350 lb 70 year old men (and women) in the ranks.
There were no organized black combat units at the Battle of Antietam, so no black reenactors participated in the battles. There were many black spectators.
@@thecivilwarhistorian You are correct!! After this battle Lincoln issues the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862. The Emancipation Proclamation didn't go into effect until January 1, 1863 . May 22, 1863 The War Department issues General Order No. 43, this general order give permission to recruit and organize African Americans into Federal Service ( Army or Navy ) or work as payed labors.
+daladoc 1812 Why the 51th Soiled Dove unit of course! There was a price war in 1862. Many suffered scratches and pulled hair. Long after the war ( too many to count) suffered chronic pain from staying on their backs for hours at a time. Their motto was..To Our Troops We Lift Our Hoops.
A lot of women throughout history have been known to disguise themselves as men to fight in wars or some other similar event. So it wouldn't be or shouldn't be a surprise that there were women in the ranks. Some would cut their hair, wear tighter clothing to hide their frame and then fill in the gaps with padding to make them look more masculine.
Fifes and drums were horrid, the reenactors are way too old and fat for true civil war men and it just isn't that good, but its better then 2012 Gettysburg which was even worse.
I saw myself in your video! Confederate Reenactor, marching through at 10:25; with the feather. This is a great video! I'm glad you enjoyed the event!
I attended the re-enactment week on the 137th Anniversary...It was very moving...I made a lot of friends....
Seems like those rebs eat really well during the war starting at about 6:30.
***** :)
Was thinking the same lol, most jackets cant be closed anymore lol
(Battle of Antietam)
(September,17,1862)
(American Civil war)
(Results):(Union Victory)
Homeboy at 23:20 needs a damn tuner.
I think that was done on purpose, to simulate old stringed instruments that often were played out of tune.
Ah yes I see now it's a period Yamaha cutaway
@@winkcrittenden6011 lmao
Just needs his ears.
2nd South Carolina String Band! Woo!
Exactly... we don't really have to "work" for our food.
The Bloodiest battle of the Civil War.
it was bloodiest single day battle with 23000 casualties not of the entire war gettysburg had 58000 in three days.

James McDermott all u have to do is support trump
Contact a local group to ask if they have loaner gear, most groups do because they are always looking for more recruits.
I'm also from Rhode Island, and a reenactor. Are you still looking for a unit to join?
Rhode Island Historical Society might be able to help you.
I love the civil war

because McClellan was popular and it wouldn't have worked. He would have just ended up in prison lol.
And the dude with the Hawaiian shirt at the end has to go ffs, lol
So happy I went to Maryland, My Maryland.
The problem with all re-enactments, especially the Confederate ones, is that they are too well-fed.
This is a problem with all of modern society.
That is not the kind of bravery, that is required now.
Living in the past is cheaper, but there's no future in it!
Aw come on! Show the cavalry in the action!
How can I play a part in a battle reinactment? I have ancestors who fought on the side of the Union, and I would love to participate in a reinactiment. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
First step would be find a reenactment in your area and start talking to reenactors ther
Are there any reenactment videos that show the reenactment and are not loaded with 1800's music videos?
The battle started about 5:15 in the morning not 6:30 or 7 as the guy playing Mclellon states on here.
Where did you buy that flag pole I look everywhere to find one for a Union flag. :D
I cant wait for the nexed one
I see a lot of good men on both side of this war who died during these battles but a new nation was formed from it ashes.
Faugh A Ballaugh!

What was the march at the start of the video, it's so catchy
1812AndMore I believe it's "We Are Coming, Father Abraham".
Jesus Christ they got enough flags?
This is why I don’t do mainstream events at all
🤣🤣 thanks for the announcement, you Authentics are just as entertaining.
Why at part 26:12, why does that guy have a blanket over his drum??
It is crepe to signify mourning. Perhaps a close friend or someone in his unit died recently.
Hey Craig Shipp, I'm from Brazil, How do I participate in a battle like this ?
I want as a confederate.
***** but, I would like as a confederate.
***** but but...I want as a confederate. as a captain !
***** I want as Captain George Pickett Ok ?!
***** I want to lead the Pickett's Charge. and you will carry the flag !!!
***** We agree, maybe when in my vacation. I'm counting on you.
that guitar at the end sure was outta tune in the worse way yet!
Was that guy supposed to be lincoln?
Where was this reenactment held? I am pretty sure it's not at Sharpsburg, I was there...
It was in Maryland; as I recall, only about 30 minutes (maybe less) from the Antietam battlefield.
Wow...it looks like the United Nations with all of those flags in the Sunken Road.....#Farb
Too many Johnny Cakes make too many corn fed troops.
Okay I am sorry but the bass drum player is making me pull my hair...
Abraham Lincoln looks nothing like real lincoln

When the union lost gen phil kearny. At chantilly va 2nd Manassas. The union lost a real fighter the union needed general s like Kearny shermen n grant. Early on. McClellan. Always. Retreating
Union leaders were always afraid. Of Lee n Jackson .Kearny was a fighter and Kearny almost broke Jacksons line at 2nd Manassas
Kearny would of been the commander of the Army if he lived died to soon .battle of Williamsburg va. 2Nd Manassas. Peninsula. 1862

Disgusting planning for the scenario. Maryland My Maryland was much better....
Campaigning has its perks....like legitimate scenarios.
bloody lane .... more like bloody awful ....
Waste of time in my opinion. Very bad for a 150th event. I when Confederate and the leadership was awful too.

horrible.
the people need to go on a diet, only have chubby.
***** but, the event was wonderful. Congratulations to the organizers.
