Have to smile when you say "Hiking's hard" and then laugh...what an understatement...Thanks for taking us along on your journey and being so upbeat even when you are exhausted
CAROLYN. What a beautiful day this was. Amazing views. Loved the creeks and meadows. I felt as though I was with you. I could almost smell the trees and felt the icy water on my face as you washed your face. You have given me such joy and brought back so many of my fondest memories of being in the wilderness. Thank you so much for keeping me smiling and feeling your inner strength to help me keep mine going. Hugs to you and enjoy your much deserved rest from the trail. Hugs to you.
Just simply incredible!!! Such beautiful scenery. I think this video of your hike is my favorite by far. Just incredible scenery. I know I said it twice, but...WOW!!!
Wow. It’s so beautiful there. I can’t WAIT to get out of the Bay Area! (If I ever find a new van/RV.) So amazing what you’re doing. Again, thank you so much for sharing. Kelly and Sophie Doyle!
You go girl, Keep On Truckin, it's not about the end of the adventure it is about the adventure itself. It is not about how many miles you accomplish each day it's about what you experienced in every moment hang in there and keep on going love to meet you someday
.......dear carolyn.......watching/listening to this vid.........the loss of energy.........the ebb in enthusiasm.........i think you know this project is done..........it's like when i wrote my first book.........my goal was one hundred chapters..........but, i knew i was finished at sixty..........a lofty goal is impressive.........but enjoy your venture within reason........keep your experience a good memory.........🙋♀️✝💜
So beautiful! It would take me forever to traverse that trail, I would be sitting at Obsidian Falls that beautiful spot for a week just soaking it up. Now, though, I’m on the edge of my seat to see what happens next. You’re amazing!
Carolyn, you are such an inspiration to so many people! - Me, first and foremost! I LOVED watching and anticipating the views and what you had to share each day! I'm so glad you shared that you are done and safe! I now can enjoy without a knot in my stomach wondering if you were ok... I prayed for you every day. I am so happy that the winner gets a pair of FITS socks- they are the greatest!
You can tell you are struggling at this point. I feel for you, but i can also see determination, willpower and all the good this hike is doing to you.You certainly deserves a few zero days and i hope it did you well! Good job Carolyn you are awesome! Next year, ill walk my regions trails, and it is all because of you.. You inspirational girl! 😉🙌👍
Yes, that is obsidian. It is and was used to make arrowheads and cutting tools. When chipped / flaked, the natural break creates a sharp edge as shown in the piece you had. The stream where you rested is absolutely beautiful. I am grateful for your videos of your journey. ❤️🌷🌕🍃🏕
I know someone that ran 52 marathons in one year. One every week. He took ice baths after each marathon for about 1/2 hour. There has been a lot of research with cold and healing at NIH. It is very very helpful. Most people think heat is the answer, but it turns out cold is much better.
Obsidian is a volcanic glass that was very valued by the Indians. They would make arrowheads and knives out of it and scalpels were made from it before we had a way to make them with refined metal. They used flintmapping to get an edge as small as a molecule or two thick! It’s amazing if you read up on it. Indians would travel a long way to get obsidian and it was very expensive to trade for.
Great video!!!take care of your blisters!!!!rest and eat good food. We are on your side!!!we love you and no you can do it!!love ya!beautiful views!! God bless you and keep you!!❤🙏
Purple flowers so pretty --I think theyre mountain lupine .btw yes thats obsidian . Obsidian is essentially black glass. The native americans used to make arrowheads from it.
@@maribethspence6740 No, it hadn't been worked. That's the thing about obsidian shards like that-- they naturally peel off and have sharp edges, no tool making required. The native Americans definitely used these as tools (e.g. scrapers for tanning hides), sometimes wrapping one side with sinew, to protect the hand, as you can cut yourself on one of those if not careful. It's a particular type of volcanic rock that cools under certain conditions and is volcanic glass. Some obsidian becomes jewel quality.
@James Geeen your statements are not correct and all you are doing is parroting someone else’s ideas. Being cruel and saying people have mental issues is the lowest of the low.
Wow. All the time and effort and (extra weight) that went into filming along your journey.......in addition to just getting through the hike!!!! It just sunk in for me with this video. That was an ENORMOUS undertaking, Carolyn!! Deep respect, frIend. ✌🏼🌺❤️
Wow! Some super beautiful scenery! I loved the meadow with the purple flowers and the beautiful stream! You sure did a great job! You went above and beyond in your effort to finish that day out! Whew! I certainly couldn’t have done that!!! 👍😵😮🎉🥇

Awesome video Carolyn, your inspiring, courageous, and even though you let us know your done devoted and so many other nice verbs i could put in there it is awesome that you are sharing this thank you...safe travels nancy
Reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed a second time now when I accidentally came across this video while searching on Obsidian falls. Hats off to you for this video. You really inspire us to travel more.
Carolyn, what is interesting about your words is, about the zero day. The Lord took the time in the scripture to say "6 days you shall work and rest on the seventh". Pretty good advise from our creator, maybe He does know what He is doing... before we go on a long walk and figure this out, for ourselves...
However many miles Carolyn walks, she gets extra credit for when she is walking away from the camera, at some point, she will walk back to get it and then will rewalk the path again. Thanks for the experience and beautiful views! Hope you get a good rest soon.
you are correct.. from left to right they are...Charity (South Sister)..Hope (Middle Sister) Faith (North Sister)...Interesting. Beautiful views...thanks for sharing.
The views getting better and better which I didn’t think was possible. Amazing. Really enjoying all of it. I was just fine till you snuck in “Vegan Police” and it stuck. Again. It’s nice to see snow while sitting in 103 degree weather here in So. Cal. 🌲🌻
Carolyn, Wow, thanks for taking us on this trip. Love the ..... can't pick just one thing love it all, from the breathtaking views, to the gleeful giggles and smiles, thank you. Hmm...... no badge on my comment. Joined up as soon as I saw the opportunity. Hopefully it will show up soon. Not too concerned you have responded to a couple of my comments, and realize there just isn't time for you to answer ever one. Looking forward to the next glimpse into your awesome life, thanks for sharing and as always Stay free, happy and kind. :) JK Hawk
Another great video, and certainly left me yearning for the next one! Great cliff-hanger. You might have been bored and aching and blistery, but I am so impressed and inspired by your determination and stamina! I hope I win those (new--lol) socks! I expected your feet to look much worse! Those trails look well-groomed, and what magnificent weather for hiking!
Incredibly beautiful. Having the freedom to experience this adventure must feel amazing, even if it had to end prematurely. I know nothing about long distance hiking, but feel sure that the mind would enjoy a ride on a rollercoaster of ups and downs🎢. Happy trails to you.
Alright, Carolyn!. You are a badass. I'm cheering for you and your life.i did most of the a.t. last year. I'm getting ready ( Oct.) To go full time van life. Hope to meet up with you sometime. I am A. Gnome.
I could feel the burn on that uphill section..:o) My sisters and I used to backpack and we would talk about the food we were going to eat on our first meal off the trail!
Hi Carolyn! Another beautiful video. Such incredible scenery. I personally prefer cycling because I think I would get really bored just hiking, but however we each "trudge the road of happy destiny" it's a joy to share this time with you. What a wonderful experience for you to look back on and learn from, as well as experiencing the healing Joy of being quiet with yourself. God bless. Look forward to the next video.

I actually thought I could man made chiseled edges on that piece she had. I'm betting it was a native American tool of some sort
