That was an awesome episode, and as a friend of both Kyle, from World of Rockhounds, and Jared, from Currently Rockhounding, and an Oregonian, it was eagerly anticipated. I recognized Kyles obsidian pieces instantly. Even if you had not said where they came from, i would have known. That piece with tbe cross hatch pattern is so specific, and Kyle is our resident Fire Obsidian expert. He is amazing with it and like you said, he can manage to work it and expose the fire without losing it! Awesome episode!
Fire obsidian is the only one not in my collection 🤷♂️ I didn’t see them show one type I have though and it’s green banded obsidian. Ill show it off on the discord channels.
Great seeing World of Rockhounds/Kyle's Fire Obsidian on a great episode about Obsidian! Looking forward to having you on the podcast and love this channel!
I just randomly discovered your channel and now I’m addicted. First time I’ve ever been into mineralogy and I’m hooked already! Thank you all for your content, keep it coming.
Thank you, thank you, for this one!! I have a Mask that was carved out of one piece of Rainbow Obsidian that my son got for me in Machu Picchu. It's about 9 inches tall and 7 inches wide and mounted on a stand. It's amazing!! A true treasure!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
This video is really informative, I love obsidian and this reminded me to my love of crystals. Thanks for re -awakening my hobby. Excellent content . Will watch your other videos too
Super cool video, I really enjoyed watching and seeing all of the different types of obsidian on display especially Kyle’s Fire Obsidian. Also thanks so much for coming on the Rockhound Podcast with us it was a lot of fun, we all enjoyed it. 🤘😜 have a great week.
I've been finding fire obsidian everywhere and I have a lot of obsidian. But what I know is if you look in the right place and you know what you are looking for it will just pop up out of no where.
Fire obsidian is really sweet. I remember when my friend Jared (currentlyrockhounding) did his video on a piece of Kyle's (worldofrockhounds) fire obsidian. So cool to see you all with some pieces on your channel. 👍
Your channel was shared on the rockhound discords and I’m glad it was shared! I subbed and will be watching more for sure! I’m a long time rockhound who started a channel last year doing rockhounding and lapidary work. It mostly became me polishing rocks after I moved to New York as there is less hounding out here 😅 anyway. Glad to have found y’all as I seem to belong here and can’t believe it took this long.
My husband and I love to watch this channel! Have you ever thought about showing Ellensburg blue stones. Thanks for showing all these wonderful stones and gems. ☺️
Ahhh loved the pretty obsidian, I only have regular obsidian but I guess I'll have to invest in some different types 🤣 I loved the little experiment! Yay rainbows
Wow, thank you for sharing this beautiful Obsidian set. Kyle sent you some beautiful polished examples. Loved the Plat button. My favourite are the Apache tears because my friend Regan sent some to me in Wales from Arizona. They are still in their Perlite matrix which makes them special. Not forgetting the story behind Apache tears. Rog. 😀👍
This was a really good video on the topic, and I appreciate you mentioning my channel. Let me know if you ever want to see some of the layer measurement photos.
I was able to spend a little bit of time in Glass Buttes, and I have to say that the material there was amazing.I found types that haven't been discussed in other forums that I have read in,and it was so cool. Now that i know what to look for, after cutting and polishing the material,I wish I could go back and get more!I only found maybe one piece that might be fire, but the rest of it was so amazing, and i wish i would have just taken what I left behind!
I have a big palm sized rainbow obsidian with an eye on it.its a really beautiful piece didn't know they broke like glass tho I will be more protective
When I visited Teotihuacán several years ago, they told me that the Mayans would view the sun through shards of obsidian. I looked through a thick obsidian disc and sure enough, you could see the shape of the sun pretty clearly. I ended up taking the disc home with me. Very sure it's not safe for viewing the sun, but still makes a good center piece.
For those heading out to Glass Buttes to find some fire - while you do need to watch out that you don't dig/collect on the various claims out there (without permissions), the good news is that those aren't the only spots where you can find fire magnetite/obsidian. I've located it in most areas, including on the backside of Little Glass Butte where there isn't a ton of digging activity. It's not the easiest material to spot, and you'll have to work for it, but there's plenty of fire to be found outside of the areas with active claims!
Love your content! Extremely informative and you bring a lot of fun and excitement while learning. Can you please do a show on stones from my home state of Massachusetts? We don’t get much love over here in the world of gemology and geology. Please and thank you! ❤️🙏🏼
so excited to see agatized dinosaur bone (aka gembone) in your play button! it is by far my favorite lapidary material to cut into cabochons, even if they arent all set into jewelry lol
Really wish u could have shown apache tears and their uniqueness and how they look seemingly black. But put a light up to the bottom and you can see right threw them very very cool
As a kid in 1965 Suisun City we played everywhere you shouldn't. Remember exploring parked trains and was warned by friend to not fall or jump on certain rocks that were melon sized Obsidian. Dark with shiny sides and we pretty much ignored them.

@@WorldofRockhounds howdy the guy that dug that i met in about the year 2000, that was roughly when it was dug up from the buttes. Each hole out there seems to have a different pattern scheme and unique colors to it so they are fairly easy to rule out one hole to the next. stacked lines seem to be closer to pinch points in a seem but then when the vein widens they tend to spread out more putting more glass between the bands. it's still like chasing a line that went through a laffy taffy machine before it cooled tho.

Wonderful podcast video! Thank You so much you guys~you are fantastic!
Those are some really beautiful pieces... And you're right, the flash on these is highly similar to one of my favorite stones: Labradorite.
One of my favorite RUclips channels. I love everyone’s enthusiasm on this channel.
Great seeing World of Rockhounds/Kyle's Fire Obsidian on a great episode about Obsidian! Looking forward to having you on the podcast and love this channel!
