Nothing to do with the car per se, whoever fitted the new gearbox should have applied thread lock on the axle bolts, it's a basic procedure on most cars. Anyway, great the car is back on the road.
Yep, more of an overrated legend IMO. Common known problem they were well aware of, yet why did they not use new bolts & use proper loctite? Sounds like to me, someone forgot to tighten the bolts to the torque specs when they last worked on the transmission recently?
That you kept smiling through the preliminary phase of this problem before the “easy fix” was revealed, speaks volumes about you Jay. Fingers crossed you experience some good luck very soon…you’ve earned it.
Hang on in there, it's all part of the 'experience' and vicissitudes of 928 ownership. I've had a hankering for one for decades, but I'm 'lucky' enough to not be able to afford one. Think I'm over it, and happy enough to enjoy one vicariously 👍 Greetings from the bottom right corner of the UK!
I love Mat. When he sees Jay he must just see dollar signs. I write this after taking my 996 to have a check over today to see if anything may need doing in the future and if I’d bought a generally good car (I know, a ppi should come before purchase). Car is still there as one of the brake calipers was leaking and not really safe to drive back. On the plus side it will hopefully also come back with working ABS/PSM, cruise control and a shiny new PCCM+. I think I saw the reflection of some pound signs on my way out.
Ha Jay! The 928 is a sensitive car, she must feel uncomfortable over the last weeks due to her damaged hip so now this happened. Glad it was an easy fix and I wonder about the upcoming transformation😊🎉
Jay, Sorry to hear your news mate, that’s terrible, from the highs you have had, much the same with mine But I’ll tell you a different story that prevents me from completing my 928 Mine is health related, bilateral lung transplant,Dec 2021,Lymph Node,2023,which was metatastic,6 rounds of Radiation,Stage 4 Cancer ♋️,Chemo at 7 rounds(2 more to go) But wait there’s more, blood clot in the lung, and while in hospital got Covid 😢and I’m hanging in there Oncologist tomorrow As much as I really like the 928’s I may have overdone it Cheers Jay Frank✅
If you buy a clasic transaxle, well, good luck! My personal downfall and financial ruin was a 944 in the early 2000s. - A horror story almost all the way.
Don't get discouraged. My Porsche was running until the crank shaft pully went out. Now I have the joy of trimming the car and find its sweet spot along with missing the Porsche car show this weekend in Saratoga Springs. My next plan of attack is to have a priest perform an exorcism on the car.
The sad part is, no matter how much money you throw at them, they don’t appreciate in value. I think it’s called a labour of love. I’ve spent around $AUS30K on my GTS in the last 2 years and still things go wrong. Insured for $140K but market says less.
@@chesswizard31 Not in Australia, especially if it’s imported from the U.K. The local Porsche dealers have been rubbishing imported cars, including 911’s, since the seventies.
@@eddieselman8942 I’m Australian, I know what you mean about the ‘Australian delivered’ phenomenon. But really, I think only people looking to flip care as much about that. Anyone smart and in it for the car itself would take a UK or HK car in proper condition etc. over a lesser Aussie delivered one.
Oh man, when it rains, it poors. I feel for you, Jay.
The joy of classic car ownership!
Glad it was an easy fix Jay. Stay positive. At least it's not a boring EV 😎
True that!
Had this happen to me. Fortunately I caught it before the bolts backed completely out.

👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Good & honest mechanic ... They are hard to find
He is a LEGEND!

Aw man, so happy it was just the axle flange! Now go have some fun!

Thanks mate!
Didn’t these mechanics work on your car recently. Why didn’t they loctite it properly especially since they have had it happen in other instances??
….and your mechanic should reimburse your towing expenses etc!

I need to be more like you, I thunk haha!
I did the tail and Blue Ridge Parkway after Parade. It was amazing. Have a safe, enjoyable trip.
Glad to see it wasn't the end of the car.. and your sanity!
Can tell he’s a proper gent…..he used tow hook that screws into bumper!!! 🎉
Hang in there Jay. 👍
Glad to hear it was something “simple”.
Safe travels!!!
Thanks 👍

Not giving up……yet! ❤️
Happy that you are now happy!
Thank you! ❤️
Good for you ! It's not only the money , for a while your faith in your purchase is seriously in doubt.
Very true haha!
Burt!!!!!! Guess he’s a bit of a jokester. 😂
Enjoy the Dragon.
I asked my mechanic before I bought a 928 he said hell no so I got a 996 😊

Glad it was an easy fix. Jolly good, carry on! ☺👍
Absolutely! Haha!

Welcome to owning a classic car
wow...unsecured wheels 😲
Glad it was a quick fix!
So was I haha!
keep you on your toes -) glad it was an easy fix ...ouf !
Yes! Haha!
Glad it was an easy fix. I wonder. Would it have been worse if you had limited slip? I imagine the loose axle dragging while the car was running.
RIGHT!
If you buy a clasic transaxle, well, good luck! My personal downfall and financial ruin was a 944 in the early 2000s. - A horror story almost all the way.
I am looking to buy one of these thats had differed maintenance... You're terrifying me.. I might need to back away from it!!
Hahaha! No! Do it! They’re truly amazing cars!
What's their hourly rate? Around here (NH) it's $200/hr.
I. Want. Tears.
HAHAHAHAHA!
Did you get the insurance money Jay?
Update coming soon!

I’m at that stage too HAHAHA!
You should listen to your mother! From Mum xxx
HAHAHAHA! ❤️
Yep yep... I'm happy I tune to your channel. I'm selling mine. Can't tell you how many times a lift truck picked up my car. Since 1987

What are you talking about? The GTS especially is very valuable and continuing to appreciate.

I solved all the problems and bought a Lexus🤪
YIKES!
