Hi Tom, mixing a magnetic PU and undersaddle piezo PU is possible because I have successfully done it tonight. I used 2 mini toggle switches - switch 1 is to select either magnetic or piezo, and switch 2 is to connect them in parallel. It is interesting to have 3 different tones now. All the switches are super glued on the magnetic PU body, and a 2.5mm mono audio female socket is also glued to the magnetic housing, so that I don't need to drill on the soundboard.
I like how you agknowledge the fact that magnetic pickups can sound like electric guitar pickups. It's literally the same technology, and many acoustic players either ignore or don't even know.
@@TomButwin I do think it's cool to combine it, but not to rely on it as the main source of amplification. I do like the Fishman Rare Earth Blend as it features a really good mic alongside a pretty good magnetic pickup
@@TomButwin LR Baggs sounds more open and natural to my ears. Taylor makes wonderful looking guitars, but Taylor electronics sound like plastic and too compressed.
@@TomButwin they probably are, and I like their products (though a little pricey). I was just making the point on the limited scope. I look forward to your guide. Thanks!

Wow, that’s quite a mod and gives you basically every pickup option/combo. You’re braver than I! I’d never trust myself with super glue lol.

I try! Lol just not my favorite way to amplify an acoustic.

I think that I like magnetic pickup with body sensor the best. It sounds warm and full.
Like the Taylor Expression stuff? Or LR Baggs version?

Not REALLY what the title implied. Just a promo for one brand.
If it makes you feel any better, they didn’t pay me to do that lol
@@TomButwinI guess it does - though I know you have to make cash somehow. Just hoped it would be a broader discussion. Thanks for the reply.
@larryconway6498 I have plans for a more detailed guide I’m going to shoot from my home studio. LR Baggs are a great bunch of people, though.
