Sat in these a fortnight ago. Massively impressed. Standard is better as the Premium is just too far over the top. Star roof is just plain nuts. The size and quality do not come through in the video. In the flesh it is magnificent. People talk about durability and reliability. None of that matters with the 700; it is not aimed at us mortals. It is not for the family or driver, it is for the boss in the back seat. The Chinese aren't stupid, they are not aiming this at Landcruiser or even Toyota. This is never going offroad, it is aimed at the "premium" 4WDs like Rangies, G-Wagens, etc. Having seen it in the flesh there is no contest; this thing is the King! It will be interesting to see if GWM can hold their nerve and resist the urge to release an el cheapo version and keep this a truly "flag ship" model. This could be a real test of Chinese Vs Western marketing. If they can hold up their prices they could establish a real reputation for themselves and it would become a low volume aspirational vehicle. It is that good but I bet the Chinese will fold, sell a discount version and effectively kill this magnificent beast! No yakuza boss, oligarch, or Chinese bossman would hesitate to be driven in these but not if the guy down the road can by the stripped out "L" version for 1/2 price, forget it!
Most electrical vehicle components for all manufacturers come mainly from China. Not only are Chinese cars becoming more reliable with better features, they are far cheaper and have a lot of thought put into them. If Toyota can’t distinguish themselves from the Chinese they will be in trouble. Kind of like the big German manufacturers, they don’t have anything special in them over most cars these days.
Oh everyone slept during Covid, it’s reasonable I guess, but China never forgot the game of catch up. Regardless of what people think they pump out more science majors than most nations put together. You can’t help but improve when you invest in education.
Thanks Dimitri - another amazing car! Bit too big for my needs but I do hope it comes to Australia. Truly amazing features and styling. I think if it come to Australia at a price below AUD80,000, it will be hard to beat from a feature packed premium SUV perspective. I hope to see this car being pulled apart in a later technical review by your friend Ilya!
Love these reviews! My input is this: I don’t see this as competition for the LC300… instead (for me) it sits in the neighborhood of the G400 and G500. I live in the UAE - you simply can’t buy a G500 or 400 that someone hasn’t put a G63 bodykit on… The Tank 700 somewhat blurs the aesthetic line between the G500 and G63. I really don’t like the G63 - going 200 kph in a washing machine is not my idea of ‘fun’. …but the robust build and cabin ARE. If/when the 700 is available here I will take a look - and in no small part resulting from videos like this! 👍🏽 Thanks!
I am a long time Toyota owner. Have owned Prados, 4Runners, Hilux, Celicas, Corollas. Currently own a 2024 Hilux GR. While I think Toyota has been making a bad choice by not offering barebones versions of their popular off road models (the only exception being the Hilux. My Hilux does not have anything more that it needs), cars that are too bling bling like this one, do not attract me at all. Now, if China brands start offering versions without all that bling bling, I would have no problem trying them out. I have been a long time Toyota owner not out of loyalty, but because other brands do not offer better choices (and by better I do not mean better equipped or with more electronic gizmos). I think China manufacturers have catched up though, good for us the customers. I will wait for the right model for me to try them out...
The Tank 700 has a tougher look than the 500; which makes it more appealing. But, both are about the same length, 5.1m. So, unless the 700 has the 3 litre engine option here in Aust, then there isn’t much to entice a prospective buyer. I don’t think Toyota has much to worry about just yet. We know the engine option the 700 ought to have.
Some of the Chinese cars are really starting to *LOOK* great. It remains to be seen if they are as durable as a Japanese or American vehicle long term. Here in the US, you regularly see 50-year-old Chevrolet pickup trucks still on the road. I know it's not a like comparison, but do we believe these Tank 700s will be around in 20 years? 50? Maybe not this generation, but the Chinese are improving at a more rapid clip than anyone else.
Same question gets raised every time. They haven't been here long enough, but they (GWM specifically) produce somewhere around 1 MILLION units per year in China. For a very long time. This tells me that the company knows how to make cars. But no, it's not a threat to Toyota, see my pinned comment in case it's not clear what I was trying to say.
People who actually use their 4x4’s will still buy Nissan or Toyota, but the soccer moms who just want a big tough looking SUV shopping trolley will buy these and they are the majority of buyers in Australia.
Interesting. I think the styling hides its size, at least on the screen. A bold move up market for GWM. Pneumatic suspension. Luxurious but risky? Who knows. Oh, and don't the Chinese know car interiors should be dull grey? I'd feel like a vampire driving around in that. Nice.
It will get market share from the SUV shopping trolley inner city wannabes, but anyone who wants a serious 4x4 or wants to pay extra for the prestige of a Toyota won’t buy it. Given that most SUV’s are shopping trolleys it may make a sizeable dent in Toyotas sales.
If they are asking Sahara money in Australia it simply won’t sell where it could gain maximum market share. It needs to undercut Land Rover and Ineos in particular which might pull in those who balk at another 70 series. The Y63 releases in 2026 here, I expect sharp pricing against Toyota, they are simply overpriced, unimaginative vehicles in a nation where you don’t have to hardcore drive to Uluru. If it’s below 100k it will get traction, 70-100k is the new sweet spot for any new comer pushing luxury alternatives to BMW, Mercedes, Lexus etc.
This will kick ass. Its not only nicer than the toyota. Its nicer than the Lexus. The others have been sleeping and not giving the Chinese enough respect. They are coming hard and will leave a teail of destruction fkr competitors. You think this pretty good. Check out the BYD U8. There is nothing else in the world like it.
It absolutely WILL kick ass when it inevitably comes to Australia. I don't think they've announced any plans yet, but I just can't see them NOT going in this direction.
I don't think anyone will "crush" anyone in this case, but the line for Tank 700s will probably stretch quicker and become longer than whatever it is for overpriced plastic-filled TLK 300s...

It looks very fancy inside, even if its a mash up of styles. Very un Tank like but I do hear Russia needs more Tanks?

Thanks mate, a bit too expensive for me.

I like that the acceleration pedal is shaped like the emblem of the company, it is a nice touch
It looks so nice. This will sell very well no doubt.
Hi mate I don’t think this is going to worry Toyota at all. They type of person that buys Toyota wouldn’t even consider one of these
I agree, see my pinned comment if it's not clear what I was trying to say.
Tell this to those confident fools who talked crap in China in 2014 and now Toyota SUV business along with Jeep is biting the dust
Looks awesome v6/hybrid great combo, i hope it comes to Australia and you buy one

tank 700 3t V6 5.9sec 0-100, it's not a competitor is a benchmark.

It looks amazing and if GWM get the price right they should sell many .
Interesting design..be good for the established brands to get some competition
Completely agree, competition is good.
Bro do you know if we are going to get leopard 8 in Australia?

An impressive looking unit, you would have to st least consider the 700.

The byd shark is already doing it
Love the clock
The big question is how will it be in 10 years time, some Chinese manufacturers build to a price, like the Great Wall rust, court case.
Thanks Dimitri :-)
G-Wagen better be on the lookout... It's replaceable with this almost at a fraction of the price...
Even 100k AUD it wont be a big seller. Most will go to Prado or new Nissan Patrol or many other options.
People who actually use their 4x4’s will still buy Nissan or Toyota, but the soccer moms who just want a big tough looking SUV shopping trolley will buy these and they are the majority of buyers in Australia.
It is a master peice
Looks good, but only 5 seats for such a large car??
All depends on the pricing

I think the Tank 700 aim is to challenge Mercedes G wagon
Chine cars look good and value for money but they need to pass the test of time to be accepted

Let’s have the Tank 400 please?
I've reviewed it a while ago as translation, check out my channel. No word on it coming to Australia yet.
Burgandy nice yeh i guess but not for me sir. how ever i respect your comment comrad.

I still don't like the Tank model styling which is always a bit vulgar and kind of mod from the 80s style.
i hope reliability is same as toyota
Who paid that kind of money want longevity in return

Chinese cars will crush Toyota if they can cover 500,000 km without major problems.

The exteior design is ugly and
A disappointment.... however, the interior design is perfect. Engine is also lovely.
