She is very clever, extremely attractive and a professional. Unfortunately, Prince Andrew was clearly expecting Emily to be intimidated by his position in the Royal Family . There was never doubt as to the outcome. He came across as a village idiot.
Yes Emily's interview was impeccable. She balanced toughness with kindness. You could tell inside she was disgusted with him but never came across that way.
I'm not sure the word "kindness" applies to this lady and her interaction with her interviewee, more a finely applied judgment of who, what, when, where, why and how the story unfolds from moment to moment...Kindness had nothing to do with it...
I personally thought she went to soft on him, he was the sole reason why it became a car crash interview for him, the arrogance and entitlement from him and his royal advisors was beyond belief.
Yeah, and that showed her skill that she was soft enough to allow his arrogance to flourish and allow him to be comfortable enough to make so many gaffes. She disarmed him . And she did that without him, even realizing it, so, that’s even more a testament to her skill, and is a skill that women often have to employ with arrogant men who are overly convinced of their own intelligence.
I absolutely agree with you. Had she not been “soft” she would not have been as effective. She kept a straight face even in the most awkward moments of interview history (I’m thinking of the sweat thing, as an example). It was her “softness” that disarmed him. At that point she did not need to be “hard”… he had buried himself knee deep.
You’ve obviously never been misrepresented by the media… editing can create what ever narrative you wish to portray. Prince Andrew became a Navy Commodore through his own endeavours and was very well respected in the service. Everyone professionally connected with him has nothing but utter respect. BBC are anti royal and went out to denigrate him all on the balance of a doctored photograph. Sickening
With disarming skills like these, women make wonderful dates; one has no idea how much or little one might have gained in their eyes; one’s only move is to call again and find out; and, pass or fail, one is left smiling as one reflects on how nice they sounded, how intelligent they were, and what a good experience it was to have ‘known’ them, however casually or fleetingly, and with such unrequited hope!
She conducted that interview at the time with really intelligent professional control. Here was someone who had done the homework in fine detail and was meticulous in serving out timely questions that clearly had the interviewee on his toes. I agree with those who say she did a magnificent job. It was legendary. I remember thinking where has this talent been hiding all these years and suddenly doing something that was so unique and not the least bit scandal mongering.

She is so brilliant it’s inspiring. I’m absolutely just in awe how she calmly, professionally, and intelligently took down a British royal. Her honesty and credibility just comes out of her word.
It was a very well researched, top quality interview, struck perfect balance, and was so clear. It was not like a school project, it was like a PHD thesis. Very well done Emily.
The process that Emily describes is very similar to that of an actor preparing to go on stage, opening night & sometimes every performance thereafter. One must be alert and fully in the moment of listening to everyone on the same stage.
At all levels of society. If we made changes, like, not using 15yr old models. Sexualisation of children via adult dance moves. Very few clothes. Teaching kids about grooming and abuse. Its at every level, every street. Judges need to give many years for these crimes.
I had never heard of Emily Maitlis until the Andrew interview. I absolutely love her work. Besides that, she doesn't employ uptalk and vocal fry like so many women reporters do these days.
Andrew tried to overpower her with the opulence and power of the British RF, taking her along the corridors of Buckingham Palace, then into a room dominated with the riches of his family, then he proceeded to destroy himself with his arrogance, ego and blatant lies. It was obvious from the start that his handlers had given up on him, hence the crooked tie knot at his collar, an obvious sign of his not allowing anyone to correct his dressing before appearing on camera, and how he spoke/acted throughout the interview. He tried talking her down all through the interview, was obviously struggling to answer her tough questioning, lack of fear of him, and just dug his own grave deeper with every word out of his mouth. She did a wonderful job of being a professional journalist, calm, poised, ready for anything he said, and never backed down, while Andrew just tried to cover himself constantly, as he was totally unprepared for someone NOT being in awe of his status as a Royal, and who relentlessly kept up her gentle attack with questions he didn't want asking, let alonje having to answer :-)
David Frost’s technique for extracting information from an interviewee was “give ‘em enough rope” , by starting gently and ramping up to the contentious issues. Prince Andrew was so sure he was in control of this interview just out of pure arrogance , E. Maitlis just had to play on that. The first few seconds before the interview starts with them walking into a grand Palace room tells the audience immediately this is P. Andrews turf. No doubt it was done to intimidate Maitlis and broadcast to the audience Andrews status and unquestioned reputation.
This man Andrew has no idea what integrity and honesty is. He has a history of being a jerk to his help and to the people he hangs out with. I found his mother had a condo in NYC he could have stayed in which was there for family too. He is a huge liar in my view. He hasn’t changed as he has lost it all because you are a hypocrite. The words “I’m trying to understand” were the red flag Prince Andrew just failed to notice time and time again. Truly amazing, he failed on so many levels.
That’s what happens when you grow up in a bubble - in this case a royalty bubble. Andrew was treated like a war hero - and give him his due, he did put himself at risk in the Falklands war. He was on a downhill track from then onwards. Unlike his mother, he didn’t come from a position and service to the people and seemed to have no real direction. He seemed to have a number of unsavoury friends and didn’t seem to make a positive difference in the world. I maybe missed it but I didn't hear her giving her opinion on Prince Andrew, she gave a rundown on how she works and her opinion on how the interview went but "Her honest opinion on Prince Andrew" is clickbait.
Andrew made it very easy for Emily due to the fact of his self absorbed state and arrogance. That is what happens to people in trouble who really believe they are sitting right up there with god.😱
Emily was brilliant-very respectful while asking straightforward questions. When she called him out on “behavior unbecoming”, it was perfect. She pointed out the preposterous wording without being rude or disrespectful. Andrew gave viewers quite a lot to think on and all Emily had to do was pepper her listening with a question here and there. Well done!
What a tremendous interview this is .. such relatable advice that can be applied to so many different situations, be they day to day or history making .. as it was for Emily. Brilliant. Thanks, everyone!
Emily Matlis is a competent journalist. But her interview with Prince Andrew was an adult against child mismatch. Andrew did the interview to distance himself from legal accountability. He did not realize that the court in the interview was that of public opinion. In this unforgiving realm he was convicted.
She grilled him and served him up on a plate. With him looking like a prize idiot it’s no wonder he lost his titles and royal privileges . She did what she had to do. His stupidity was her greatest triumph. Wow did it make her career. She really roasted him🍳
At last acknowledgement of the team behind the interview - So on the mark! - Well done Emily - I concur that without pictures and sound you do not have a product. It takes a talented team to finesse the interview that has become synonymous with 'Gottcha' executed with consummate aplomb.

@@marthastrayton ........he's always been an arrogant PRIG he showed the world he was, in her Interview. He was allegedly HMTQ's "favorite" child. Wonder why? NOT. IMO
I think he may have been a little excited to get all his explanations out. I say that from his ridiculous answers and explanations! He was so proud walking through the halls, showing off his ancestors as if that reflected on him in anyway. He thought he had won before they started, holding it in the great ball room in his home with his staff (and teddy bears) all around. Great outfit she chose that looked like a military jacket, that was a strong choice and then never really interupting him.... He was disarmed by her charm, but didn't even understand that, what an absolute buffoon!
I don't think that'll ever happen. It's way to "reality" TV over there. Plus, inteviewers over there try way to hard to have the focus on them, they'd probably try cracking a joke
What a waste of 22 minutes. Maitlis doesn't give her "honest opinion on Prince Andrew". She goes on and on about her thought process on how to prepare and conduct an interview, but doesn't give her "honest opinion" on Andrew.
This woman is a UK national treasure, the way she thinks and executes her game plan to success😊 People could learn something or two from her interview style❤ Be "the cable" that asks the questions. Listen hard and don't stick to the questions. Phrases tell a whole story.
I wish she would come to the US and teach our so-called journalists how to do a successful interview. She asked tough questions and did not go easy on him.
The history of underage sexual contact is stone age behaviour. Its up to everyone of us to teach ALL children about their bodies and responsibilities. I never had it and failed miserably to interact .
The kids they target are often in care and don't have a shot gun toting parent in the background for the nonces to fear. They groom and drug them. Yes I agree with you entirely but there has to be more done.
I loved how cool and paused she looked while conducting the interview despite the adrenaline and the cortisol rush. The lack of interruption or nodding as he was answering shows her High degree of focus and listening skills. Also, she showed the right amount of empathy for this one, not too much nor too low.
Given what was at stake for Andrew, the fee for the interview must have been enormous. Subsequent to the interview, the palace made a multi-million, out-of-court settlement, and Andrew was stripped of many of his titles and duties. In retrospect, he should never have committed to the interview. Comparing it to an interview with the police, he should have invoked his rights according to the fifth amendment. He made the same mistake as many criminals do : he thought that he could lie his way out of the situation despite the mountain of compelling and irrefutable evidence..🤷🏼♂️
I don't think he thought that he could lie his way out of it. To me it appears that he believed his status as the queen's son would give his statements at gravitas that would allow people to overlook his actions. That sheer level of arrogance and entitlement, the pomposity is staggering.
A tough interview for sure. A criminal is still a criminal no matter who he/she is. For us in North America, this type of pressure is foreign to us. The monarch’s can be very intimidating.
That interview was comedy gold. I can’t think of a serious interview I laughed at more. Possibly the comedic highlight of that year. Andy is such a dumbass. Right up there with sterns beetlejuice
No, for him, a shooting weekend is a gathering for going shooting and is not a party and that actually makes sense. But yes, he is royalty and from a different world.
@michaelkessler9467 OK then. She's not so confident, though. Jordan Peterson had her fushed and embarrassed 😳 Prince did take his kids to Pizza Hut that day, though. Woking I remember because it was a surprise he/they were there.
She went wayyyyyyy too easy on him but if she went harder he would have ended the interview and lost all credibility in the palace by not giving him an easy go of it.
No doubt it's an interesting interview, but there's NOTHING about what Emily's "honest opinion" of Prince Andrew is. It's all about interview technique and how she prepared and what she did when Andrew's answers weren't quite what she expected. *DISHONEST CLICKBAIT.*
The one thing she did not do in this interview was give her honest opinion of Prince Andrew. Her interviewers failed to ask her one tough question. Comfortable journos in a friendly chat. A missed opportunity.
I’m not a particular fan of Emily Maitlis, but I appreciate her more, having watched this video. Ironically, however, her interviewers lack the skills that she had identified; failing to ask more pertinent questions of her. It was all a tad too cosy; other, wider questions, should have been asked of her. However and anon, it was an interesting session.

What a great insight. Emily is great to listen to. Shame it wasn't longer.
It was one of the best interviews I have ever seen. It is of historical significance and will be reflected on for a long time.
I maybe missed it but I didn't hear her giving her opinion on Prince Andrew, she gave a rundown on how she works and her opinion on how the interview went but "Her honest opinion on Prince Andrew" is clickbait.
Agreed...and clickbait is unnecessary here
I read your comment five minute in thank you for saving me the rest of my 15 minutes. I’m out of here.
I'm very hard of hearing but the sound on this podcast is excellent. I can hear every clear word. Thank you.
Andrew made it very easy for Emily due to the fact of his self absorbed state and arrogance.
That is what happens to people in trouble who really believe they are sitting right up there with god.😱
I think you’ll find she made it look easy. That’s how good she is. Not many would have got out of him what she did.
Agreed! It’s like a roadmap for how to succeed in virtually anything.
Emily is SO impressive.
Happy 2024, brother!
I felt so nervous seeing this was live in front of an audience but luckily I lack the ability to sweat so it hasn't effected me too badly.
Very funny. 👍🇬🇧
You too? Being unable to sweat has left me in some very hot situations.
Bwahahaha! Brilliant!
It *was* the best thing she ever did professionally.
Stunning interview, Faultless - although to be fair she didn't have much opposition 😀
Emily Matlis is a competent journalist. But her interview with Prince Andrew was an adult against child mismatch. Andrew did the interview to distance himself from legal accountability. He did not realize that the court in the interview was that of public opinion. In this unforgiving realm he was convicted.
Brilliant interview. Huge respect to Emily
She grilled him and served him up on a plate. With him looking like a prize idiot it’s no wonder he lost his titles and royal privileges . She did what she had to do. His stupidity was her greatest triumph. Wow did it make her career. She really roasted him🍳
she nailed it and him.
Rubbish... He nailed himself
@@davecanly7535he nailed Virginia etc that's y he was getting interviewed
At last acknowledgement of the team behind the interview - So on the mark! - Well done Emily - I concur that without pictures and sound you do not have a product. It takes a talented team to finesse the interview that has become synonymous with 'Gottcha' executed with consummate aplomb.
Love the selfless sharing of the plaudits, great point!
Emily did one of the best interviews ever in world history. 👏
Yes and show the world what a silly ridicule of a man prince Andrew is! I’m sorry but he ( p Andrew) thought that as a royal he is above us mere humans, sorry you not!! You Andrew, caused your own “car crash”
@@marthastrayton ........he's always been an arrogant PRIG he showed the world he was, in her Interview. He was allegedly HMTQ's "favorite" child. Wonder why? NOT. IMO
The best and bravest interview.
Who would have known she was THIS nervous! Imagine how he must have felt

I find her self awareness and ability to self reflect to be inspiring
I wish we had journalists of this caliber in America
I don't think that'll ever happen. It's way to "reality" TV over there. Plus, inteviewers over there try way to hard to have the focus on them, they'd probably try cracking a joke
This chick is so amazing and humble. You never find that wrapped up in one person.
Just when I thought this woman couldn't get any better, she uses a Lego metaphor.
I wish she would come to the US and teach our so-called journalists how to do a successful interview. She asked tough questions and did not go easy on him.
This woman gave the best interview of our lifetime .
Hats off to her.
I love the fact a woman took Andrew down the royal rabbit hole. Great Job Emily!
That was the most amazing interview I’ve ever seen!
A tough interview for sure. A criminal is still a criminal no matter who he/she is. For us in North America, this type of pressure is foreign to us. The monarch’s can be very intimidating.
Thanks so much for posting.
Andrew fell under the spell of Emily.❤
She was calm and forensic and that got that liar floundering.
She was amazing. Emily did a perfect job. 👏👌
Why she was amazing ? Bc she set him up ?
She played dirty .👎
Don't agree 3/10
He fell right in. The world witnessed a Royal incriminate himself. End of. He was so obvious and arrogant.
She was the best person to let him show his character. Mr above the law
That interview was comedy gold. I can’t think of a serious interview I laughed at more. Possibly the comedic highlight of that year. Andy is such a dumbass. Right up there with sterns beetlejuice
I don't think that's very fair on beetle juice
Emily - a superb journalist. She deserves so much praise for prizing open this disgusting Royal tin of worms
No, for him, a shooting weekend is a gathering for going shooting and is not a party and that actually makes sense. But yes, he is royalty and from a different world.
For 99 people a shooting weekend is a shooting weekend but for Andrew a shooting weekend has another meaning
Emily is outstanding, brilliant!!
Any normal individual in the same circumstances would now be serving a pretty lengthy sentence.
The responsible for this interview is Sam McAlister.
Excellent, very interesting interview!! I thought Emily did a brilliant job!!! Thank you for this. It has real insight, and I learned a lot. From 🇺🇸
This interview was absolutely flawless
I can(and do)listen to Mailtlis for hours. Thanks to her intelligence and eloquence, I find the most attractive woman on our television
She's no Kate aide
@@Threadbow she’ll do for me👌
@michaelkessler9467 OK then.
She's not so confident, though. Jordan Peterson had her fushed and embarrassed 😳
Prince did take his kids to Pizza Hut that day, though. Woking I remember because it was a surprise he/they were there.
Are you referring to the Peterson interview by Cathy Newman of Channel 4@@Threadbow ?
The ironic thing is Prince Andrew thought he did well in the interview.
Agree, annoying isn't it.
Very Well Done!
Clever respectful person.
She was totally brilliant and Intelligent person.
As a journalist for a State broadcaster she handled it perfectly. And she let him hang himself.
Her deliver of the ‘unbecoming’ line was sublime.
I am sad that Andrew wasn’t neutralized by the royal household after the koo stark scandal. He also wanted to marry an actress. See any parallels?
The one thing she did not do in this interview was give her honest opinion of Prince Andrew. Her interviewers failed to ask her one tough question. Comfortable journos in a friendly chat. A missed opportunity.
I’m not a particular fan of Emily Maitlis, but I appreciate her more, having watched this video. Ironically, however, her interviewers lack the skills that she had identified; failing to ask more pertinent questions of her. It was all a tad too cosy; other, wider questions, should have been asked of her. However and anon, it was an interesting session.
