I once had a cheap childs size bodhran when I visited Ireland with me mum and dad when I was 6 or 7. It had 3 beautiful blue triquetra dragons on it, and when I lost the striker on the plane back to America, I got home and bought a pair of Vater drum sticks and commenced to annoy the hell out of my parents with Irish American tribal war songs to add to the gi Joe battles I had in my room. Good Times Master Class, good times...

Ah this is so exciting! Can't believe I haven't seen your tutorials before. Every year St Paddy's comes round and I think I really should get round to achieving a childhood dream to learn the bodhran. This is the year! Thank you for your great teaching style :-)

Okay... the addiction HAS set in. I am SO enjoying your videos and have learned so much in one day. Without a drum or tipper, I've made a home made tipper and am using a hard-bound book, but I love it! And, here's where the addiction comes in... I'm finding I'm tapping out rhythms when I'm doing other things. I've progressed so far in one day because of your lessons. Thank you!!

I am SO happy I stumbled on your videos! I had been practicing on a hatbox with a fountain pen, and watching other instructional videos. Finally broke down and got a REAL bodhran, then found you! I iz very verry happy! Thank you! I'm already in love with my drum, and know we'll have many happy hours together :)

I'm really enjoying these tutorials - only had my bodhran since Christmas but I'm keeping up with the challenge! The only thing I'd really like to see to help me more would be a link to a piece of music that you can play each rhythm to. I find I learn much quicker and pick up the rhythm faster if I can play it along with a suitable piece of music. So any links would be most welcome!

Wipe the froth off a pint of Guinness then rub it onto the skin in a circular motion, and then hold it (not too closely ) in front of the fire until it's drying ,and until you get the sound you want !

spray it on the inside only with a plant mister, or drop a couple of drops from your fingers, very lightly, then rub in the moisture & wait 5 minutes or so (less time in hotter climes)

I have those nasty cross bars on mine, so I don't have the freedom movement that you have with yours. Although I am contemplating cutting the buggers out, is there are workaround method for tonal changes for those with crossbars?
