10 Facts About Trader Joe's That Will Make People Panic

- Everybody seems to love Trader Joe's. Its cozy Hawaiiwan-themed stores and friendly staff make us feel like we're entering a lovable small business that offers locally-sourced food products. Unlike big grocery warehouses such as Walmart or Costco, Trader Joe's appeal is linked to the personalized experience it provides its customers. The chain brings exotic, specialty foods to the masses. Best of all, it has very competitive prices.
But when we look beyond that strategically nurtured image sold by the company, lots of unsettling facts rise to the surface, and we must pay attention to them. Behind the light and bright facade, there are some dark secrets the company doesn't want you to know.
Created in the 1960s, after the founder (and original Trader Joe) Joe Coulombe saw the opportunity to create an empire in the grocery industry, the chain became incredibly popular and expanded its brick-and-mortar footprint to over 500 locations across the U.S. With his Stanford Business degree, Coulombe rewrote the recipe for running a successful business, which included innovating products, store-style, and attention to detail.
For instance, every price tag you see at Trader Joe’s stores is unique and hand-drawn by their artists. In each one of them, you will find the name of the item and the price in big bubbly letters, and also get advice on how to consume it and prepare it. Typically, the packagings display words such as “organic,” “green” and “fresh,” making consumers believe they are getting quality products. But is that really true?
The company is very secretive about who their suppliers are, and it isn't transparent about customer and company policies the public should know. But after some difficult digging, reporters found some of the answers they've been looking for, and we think their findings are going to shock lots of folks out there. Today, we compiled some of the most chilling facts that reveal how things are really like at Trader Joe's behind closed doors.
I worked for Trader Joe's for seven years until I retired. i LOVED everything about my experience. i still shop there and enjoy running into former team mates at various stores in Maricopa County.
>STILL LOYAL and the wine selection is the best.
Doesn’t this just feel like someone is trying to destroy Trader Joe, just like they are trying to destroy everything else?
@@tippytalk yes!
Trader Joe’s has pretty good quality. They don’t use any food coloring or artificial flavors of anything in the store. Love their chocolate bars, they are affordable and imported from Belgium (Belgians don’t mess around with food like we do in USA they don’t add wax to the chocolate)
wood in grated cheese= cellulose. n in chips etc lotsa canola [yuk].
Sounds like products from China, are we there now?
In 2006 I was traveling in California, and purchased a Chinese chicken salad from TJs. A few bites in I found a dead horse fly in my salad. I threw it away and honestly haven’t been back since. I remember how popular it was in the 90s and never quite understood the hype.
Sounds like someone is trying to talk trash about TJ's. Did they reject your employment application, Mr. Voice-Over?
Everything in this video is unsurprising. Of course Trader Joe’s does not manufacture of everything that they sell under their own brand names. With the exception of Kroger, who does manufacture a lot of their private brand names, themselves, most manufacturers contract with companies to make their private label things. Regarding the lead, it’s a big issue with all of our food. Trader Joe’s will issue more recalls there. Any other supermarket because almost everything sold in Trader Joe’s is under their own brand name. Honestly Clickbait.
I hear "Trader Joe", and I think of Biden.
Bruh, that's weird. Trader Joe's is pretty awesome

Yeah. I think of traitor joe too. :)
True
I use to love tj but they fell to cost pressures and the quality dropped
That isn't too out of the ordinary with times nowadays and the inflation.
I’ve been shopping at TJ’s 30 years in addition to my regular stores and always had a great experience. They do have several items I either can’t find in the traditional markets or their equivalent just tastes better. No complaints here.
You know Trader Joes is owned by Aldi right?
So what? Go eat mealworms
Not exactly, Aldi grocery Wisconsin by two brothers and they ended up splitting the business 50/50 and separating it into two separate companies because one of the brothers believed in selling out the other did not for Joe's Aldi Nord (North).
That's their parent name in Europe via Germany where they originate.
The Aldi that sells alcohol products is known as Aldi soud.
Aldi soud (South) came to the United States first and that is why they got to use the name Aldi.
So they basically sell the same stuff they have access to pretty much the same suppliers there is varying degrees of items that are available and some of that based but they are actually two separate businesses.
No is it?
@@JS-jh4cy no it's not
They are separate. It was brothers who started them.
The Dark Chocolate Lovers Chocolate Bars contain high levels of cadmium and lead, and they are facing a lawsuit about this. I sold my stock.
why would you sell it and not discard it? you want to hurt others health?
TJ sells quality products. Been shopping there for years. If they made a video on Epic Economist (this channel) not being truthful, you think the comments might be similar? Food for thought.
I don’t care about what anyone says about Trader’s Joe’s I will always shop at Trader’s Joe’s. Just like I’ll vote for Trump 2024 ❤
SAD
Well, you’re 50% correct. Voting for Trump ? What a mistake.
@@rhodastephens-yoder5693 and state of affairs has Biden put us into? Good Lord!
FYI - Trader Joe's is owned by its parent company Aldi North of Germany. 👌
I prefer Lidl (also from Germany).
Also known as Aldi Nord.
Which is not actually part of the Aldi stores here in the United States those are owned by Aldi South otherwise known as Aldi soud!
They're two separate companies the brothers that founded all the grocery back in the 20s or 30s ultimately had a disagreement over carrying alcohol into backup they ended up splitting the company 50/50 Aldi grocery which is Aldi South came into the United States first that is why they get to use the holy name and that's why they go after the trader Joe's name.
But they are completely separate companies have been since the 40s or 50s
I think you could pick any store apart and find things !! Everyone is recalling their crap! I don’t shop there as much only because they just don’t have a lot of my favs anymore , but I’ve never had any problem and shopped there for years. People have choices they don’t have to shop there yet my two stores are packed ! Like the comment above i will shop there when needed and trump has my ❤
I agree, they have discontinued many products saying they didnt sell very well. B.S! You never have them in stock, would see people hoarding certain products in their carts
@@jeffreysmith2622
Let’s face it our food chain in failing , almost every day one to three things are recalled ! The stores don’t make these products they receive at least most stores . It’s scary
Cricket
A lot of trader Joe's cheese comes from Carr valley cheese company Here in Wisconsin
“Be ready for the collapse” was deceptive title. Check mate.
Whole foods copy's products too. There was a dairy product that was out of Wisconsin, before I knew it, they copied the packaging, then the original product disappeared from the cases. I stopped going there as much once I saw them do that.
You meant, Whole Paycheck. LOL. 😁😂🤪🤣😆😄😊👌
I will never buy their dark chocolate again
i RETURNED 2 BARS THAT HAD SOMETHING IN THEM THAT FELT LIKE PAPER BITS
Not only TJ's chocolate, but MANY sustainable and high end chocolate bars (at other grocers) were tested and came back with the same results.

Is there anywhere I can get across this woman for a startup???
Glad I only shopped at trader joe's once in my life. Never liked it.
That’s so sad about Traders Joe’s but not surprising. I felt the food wasn’t real safe.
That's nonsensical propaganda it's always been that way when it comes to the cheaper store that the media and a lot of assholes in the air tries to clean but it's lesser of quality and of course there's always the supposed investigative reporters that dig this shit up.
Basically to me it's most likely a fake story event to manipulate people because ever since the fall of 2016 Aldi grocery and trader Joe's which share a heritage but are two separate companies have been kicking the shit out of Walmart and Kroger's amongst many other grocers.
The raw pizza 🍕 dough is freaking amazing 🤩 from Trader Joe’s
Stopped shopping there years ago it’s sucks quality and price both went opposite directions
If you're wondering why the currant scones are no longer being sold by TJ's, I believe I was responsible for that. I once found metal shavings in my scone and brought it to the attention of the Company. It's been several years now, I was surprised by the findings. They sent me a prepaid envelope to send the metal shavings back to them, I believe to Monrovia, CA.
So they take care of everything immediately. Their response was quick and efficient. This piece feels like a hit piece. The fact that they call it a cult makes their claims too crazy. But even though this is just a hit piece, I think many people will be gullible enough to believe it. I fear it will take effect. This is a psychological psy op. How many people will actually take the time to find out if this is even true? Not many
Learn about what food you consistently get. Their deserts don't have high fructose corn syrup. But, a lot of their food will use seed oils, canola, sunflower, safflower. If the soy comes from overseas it won't be GMO.
I learned this about Trader Joe's deceptive business tactics back in the 90s. I don't shop at the stores at all.
They allowed dozens of companies to create their own packaging to make them look different but it's all the same because there's only a handful of companies producing all these foods.
Whole Foods uses these same deceptive tactics.
Well it's not really deceptive it is called private label, it has been standard practice since the beginning of the grocery industry.
. So you better start bitching about all the other grocery stores cuz they all do it you're right that there's only a handful of companies making said products so here in the states there's only so much that they're going to import and then yes they're going to have to deal with the suppliers in manufacturers that we have there and they are going to basically request a different label on the product it's not really that deceptive.
Of course they have to request a different label on product you can't but sell you know Hormel pepperonis basically paying the licensing cost of carrying Hormel pepperonis but what you can do is go to Hormel they will be happy to pack you up some pepperonis and then you can put whatever name on it and they're happy to do that for you it is less of a fee the contract cost and company less you still get your pepperonis but you get it at a cheaper price they're able to pass the savings on to you the other groceries do basically the same practice except many of them don't really pass the cost on to you look at Kroger for example.
Kroger's a huge fucking ripoff they do a lot of things in the house and they contract with a lot of co-op farms and other suppliers they won't really charge you a lesser price.
So yeah chances are you might be getting products from the name brand company but what you fail to realize is the name brand company actually has several brands under its belt so in other words Oscar Mayer produces several other brands not just Oscar Mayer.
Companies pay money to have their own name put on the product so it's like for instance you go to Walmart and you get a can of beans that is under the label of great value Walmart it's not any lesser of a bee in fact it was probably can at the same del Monte or Dole was canned in.
But of course you have the brand conscious idiots of society who fail to realize that because they don't understand how anything is manufactured they've been trained to just buy the name brand and that's it and they stick their nose up in anything generic because they're too stupid to know how that actually came to be.
This just feels like a hit piece. He does not mention sources and research details.
Jesus said that the main characteristic of the Last Days would be deception. And it's rampant everywhere giving credence to His statement that, "the love of money is the root of all evil".
TJ frozen and prepared foods are are also astronomically high in sodium, you should always read the label and note the serving size
I dont personally shop at this store as I am just a walmart type (lowest prices). That said, I detect some underlying agenda in this whole video against Trader Joe. It almost feels like it is personal between the narrator and TJ.
I love trader joe
I admit I've had a few problems with some of TJ's products - most of which were quietly "discontinued" soon afterwards!! - but I still love the store and still shop there all the time.
I like that employee are nice there is sh#$% food everywhere Read the labels

I have worked for Trader Joe's for two years. It is by far the best managed, most employee and customer friendly company I've ever seen. The products are excellent. Items that are past their sell-by date are donated to charity. I don't think my store is an outlier. Everything I hear from people who shop at other stores confirms this. This is a dismal and uncalled-for hit-piece. Shame on you.
It would be nice they would have more German products, corporate companies make different products for different stores
There maple cookies are really good
It’s not a Hawaii store , the store came from California.
My favorite items at Trader Joe’s keep going extinct.
Well..well..well.. That was shocking !
I went there for the first time. I was not impressed. I did not see anything special.
Does anyone know what company supply's the French Vanilla Ice Cream to Trader Joes, the very best ice cream i ever had in my whole life.
I read that Aldis and Trader Joe's used to be one company but the brothers who owned it got it no a disagreement over to sell tabacco products in the store so they split the company into Aldis Trader Joe's. Is that true ? I know Trader Joe's is the name the company uses in the USA.
Aldi was one company, originally, in Germany. Then it split into Aldi North and Aldi South. Aldi North bought Trader Joe's years ago, and more recently, Aldi South opened in USA as Aldi.
How sad 😢 to see everything gone TIP
i use to live across the street from a TJ and the prices were discourging
The Trader Joe's in Reston, Arlington, and Baileys Crossroad, VA, are always packed. They're hip to everything a middle class diet would want, minus the crap, with good prices. Read the ingredients on the package, if in doubt.
Every business uses advertisment. Every business rebrands things. I don't shop at trader Joe's. Their advertising tactics haven't gotten me.
They carry Norwegian Farmed Salmon, which is toxic. Alaska Salmon is wild.

They do carry Vat Meat not from real animals, that I do not approve of, and also USDA real meat. How can it have all the natural nutritional ballance as real grass fed animals?
This is happening in all of the stores.

This is a clickbait Hatchet job on Trader Joe's. I have been shopping at Trader Joe's for 30 years and the products that I buy are excellent compared to a lot of the grocery stores where I have shopped. Their prices are very reasonable and their staff is very friendly. And I will say that I am a very difficult person to please and for me to be shopping there for 30 plus years that ought to tell you a lot about the Trader Joe's store brand. If you like some great imported beers they have them from many European countries and they're all high quality and excellent. I can't say the same about most large American beer manufacturers. Most of them produce horrible tasting gut rot beer . A lot of Trader Joe's products come from Europe where quality comes before quantity and so I can tell you that this little RUclips channel is doing a major Hatchet job on one of my favorite stores . And by the way this story is AI produced .
