Japanese Fish That Taste Like WATERMELON | Fishing in Japan's CLEANEST River
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 18 апр 2020
- First time trying the Ayu fish, a popular fish in Japan but not known throughout the world. The fish lives in only the cleanest rivers and feeds on moss, giving it almost a floral flavor with many describing it as a melon flavor. I am Gifu and tasting the ayu also known as sweet fish for the first time. Ayu was made into fish ramen and pizza!

Mike's video getting more interesting:)
More than just food, but a whole lot of unique experiences.
Plus he's been much faster with uploads these days>.
He's a legend in my book. 🔥
He needs to stay at home.
OntarioStorms he is at home. These videos are previously recorded
OntarioStorms you should check out his other channel Mikey Chen. He has been doing so good videos on there too. 😀😀
All of this videos on this channel and his personal channel are filmed a few months ahead of time, and since he's staying at home he has more time to upload videos and catch up with them
It’s starting to feel more like a travel food show than just an ordinary RUclips video. Good job.
14:52 LMFAOOO WHEN HE WAS TALKING ABOUT THE EGGS GROWING UP JUST SO HE CAN EAT THEM AHAH
こんにちは兄弟。おはようございます、あなたのビデオは良くありません。始めまして。私はベトナムから来ました。ベトナムでの釣りを見に来てください
i started watching this by myself in my room and my mom just happened to pass by and heard your opening sequence and she was like "U were gOing to wAtCH a strricTLY DumpliNg videO without meeee??"
I like how Mike goes to a restaurant to eat the most expensive fish wearing a t-shirt
I love it. I think you can buy them jn his merch store or something. I want them all. 😍
yan bag he's a slob
He spend all his money on food that's why
So long as you're comfy, that's all that matters. Unless they have a dress code lol
Q. Warren Teen not at all. mike dresses causal and simple but he’s nowhere near a slob
So grateful for your stockpile of content for us during this pandemic.
You're the best- and helping keep some of us sane.
Agree
I found your channel last night. I have been learning about Japanese fishing through RUclips and a friend of mine who taught English there for 13 years.
The second fish you are looks very much like Sculpins in North America. They are both fresh and saltwater but the freshwater species I bet could be eaten the same way.
The Ayu is legendary and it is something I will never catch. Thank you for this show, I have subscribed.
Mikey is so romantic. I'd want a person to kiss me on the lips before biting off my head
Are you a giant man seized praying mantis
Dude wtf

Every single one of these videos are so wholesome.
Mike's living the life. Traveling and dining.

while imagining the fish

Trying to Food lol 😂
You WeridO
Lmao good one
hahahaha
Lol.
Hi Mikey, just wanted to say I love your content! I always watch your videos when I eat dinner 😊
Vannie Eats so true! I literally can’t watch his videos without eating something, or I’ll be miserable. His videos need to come with a warning: “Get something to eat.”
i can't believe I've been watching Mike's videos for years and years, but haven't paid a penny. Feels like I'm stealing.
Facts were living through him
こんにちは兄弟。おはようございます、あなたのビデオは良くありません。始めまして。私はベトナムから来ました。ベトナムでの釣りを見に来てください
Mikey talking about the fish spread, saying "if you spread this on anything, I'll eat it!" How about if you spread it on Broccolli?
Lmao true
A good eating fish like a California Sculpin or freshwater Crappie if taken care of correctly when caught the fillets will smell like watermelon. I used to commercial fish on my dad's boat on weekends and we would fish for rockfish or sometimes mis-called rock cod. My dad had a customer who owned several Chinese restaurants in SoCal and he was very picky about the fish he'd pay a premium price for. It had to be certain types of rockfish, no boccaccia and some of the big rockfish heads were also kept. First thing is the fish are caught on hook and line and when brought aboard the first thing I did was bleed the fish and after re-baiting and throwing the line back over, had 40-50 hooks. I would then immediately put the fish on ice after they bled out. All the fish caught that day would be filleted out including the cheek meat on some of the fish. Those fillets lightly smelled like watermelon, the fishy smell went out with the blood. I still bleed even crappie or walleye two very good eating fish and get them on ice immediately.
Great advice, I have to try it.
crappie is one of my favorites! next to walleye
@@Nikeair453 Mine too and if taken care of like I commented above it is THE best freshwater fish there is. Walleye and Muskies/Pike a very good eating too and of course trout, but not big Lake trout for some reason they don't taste very good compared to a clean stream cutthroat. I remember catching and eating trout up in the High Sierra in California and they were delicious, being freshly caught makes a difference with a lot of seafood/freshwater fish. Fresh shrimp or scallops really makes a difference.
I like black cod aka sable fish. Smells like butter. Flesh is sweet and buttery. And yes always bleed fish. I live in Alaska and always bleed my salmon etc before killing them to let them pump the blood out. I slice each gill to bleed it.
I grew up on the river and catching fresh crappie. They do have a super clean taste. From the river to the plate in less than an hour.
I've heard about the Ayu or sweet fish for years but I didn't know it tasted like fruit. I found out that Ayu can also be found in China, Korea and Taiwan but the increasing pollution of their rivers has caused decline in their population in those places. Ayu like pure, clean water so Japan's clean rivers are where they are most common.
I have loved sweetfish since I was a kid but I never knew it was this rare! Also agree it tastes different now as compared to back then
Yes because there obviously isn't any water pollution in Japan.
@@jimmyneutron8251 well that particular river is supposed to be clean
I've fished for, and eaten ayu all over Japan. Including some restaurants located right on the rivers where they're trapped. And, I've never had one that tasted like fruit.
Hi Mikey! I'm a new(but instantly became the biggest) fan of your channel. Thank you for coming to my home town Gifu!! I'm so so happy to see you were in Nagaragawa and tasted Ayu fish there. I grew up by the river so Ayu is my favorite fish. Your channel makes me want to cook even when I am tired, you're a great inspiration!! Thanks to you!!
Oh, what a glorious day! Thank you for this!!! 🤗
Thanks Mike! LOVE your stories, keeping us connected!
Another great video! ❤️ you’ve made me less afraid to try more foods that I was scared of before. That fish looks so good 😊
This is like a reverse "vegan substitute foods" video
Love the channel, thank you for still putting out videos during this time!

everything is so clean in Japan, that’s why I really want to go there
Its be clean or get fined (IMO good). I doubt people in america would want that tax. (Asuming u are in America).
Cleanliness is part of their culture
Hey Mikey, hope you're well and keeping safe during this lockdown! Thanks for the content :) from across the pond, UK.
Loveyou always mike! ❤️ Keep safe all the time. ❤️
Okay loving the recent contents 🙌🏻
So happy you had all this footage that you could post🙃☺
Love seeing you visit these types of places that are less commercial. Its the only way to find the treasures. Fried fish 🙆🙆🙆
This is what I needed today
I'm happy I watched this thank you Mikey 👍❤️
Mike this is my dream tour thanks for showing us the culture and the amazing food.
Definitely and interesting way to catch fish. Looked like you really enjoyed it.
It's 2:00am...sleep? What's that? Mike just uploaded a vid...sleep can wait..
And now you're hungry and can't get out of bed!
This is so educational, i've been wondering what sweetfish is from all the harvest moon games that i've played😂😂😂
What I would give to have this experience. Japan is so beautiful and I love everything about their culture!
It's so refreshing to see someone grow with their channel. Just a year ago, Mikey didn't eat fish. He changed his mind on fish when he went to Japan and sampled sushi for the channel. As someone who has also given up an aversion to seafood, seeing Mikey thoroughly enjoy fish brings me immense joy. Rock on, the first this we learn about hurdles is how to get over them!!
he always ate fish.
he just didnt eat RAW fish.
Thanks for video contents it helps with the lock downs
I love Ayu❤️
It's the most tastiest and cleanest fish I've ever tasted since I lived here in Japan❤️😊
I've never tried it and I'm Japanese. Instantly on my bucket list!
You make Ayu sound so good Mike!
Must be a clean river~~ as you guys drink😁😁 and i want to try the fish in the restaurant

I can't imagine the taste just by listening to his explanation. But, looking at his expression, it must be delicious.

How great it is that Mikey has a backlog of these videos. I can't wait till I can travel and eat in a restaurant again.
Satisfaction 🥰
I can't stop looking at Mike's Japanese friend... I mean he is charming 😅 but salute to the tranquil river!!
The young fisherman looks good right😍 ...he looks like an actor from those asian films😆
I loved this one! I ate a watermelon frozen fruit bar while I watched it.
So precious to see Japanese people and Chinese people friendly to each other.
"This is the first time I ate something wrapped in bamboo leaf."....
Mike... Mike.. really? what about zong zi?
You just got disowned as i stroke my inexistent ancient chinese beard.
LOL that is so funny. I like the salty ones.
Maybe the only zongzi he's eaten were ones wrapped in leaves that weren't bamboo?
nonexistent
My ones are usually banana or lotus leaf
You look good in your fishing clothes, buddy! I can't imagine a fish that tastes like watermelon.
I want to stay for just a week while eating these kinds of foods in this clean watery neighborhood.
My mind and body will be very healthy.
Your videos are always interesting, but especially these Japanese series are more fun!
How does this video have any thumbs down? Loved every second of it and rewatching now. 👍👍👍
Awesome video checking out less known Japanese towns and cuisines! Next time you can, look into Obama, Japan in Fukui Prefecture. Lots of history in this relatively small, fishing based city. Mackerel is huge there. Country cooking. You need to try “heshiko”. If you need local contacts I grew up there and have friends that would be happy to show you around!
