Yes they are. I have an ES330 I know boring, but it’s flawless and I just crossed 253,000 miles. Everyting is working still and it’s basically mint inside and out. It’s my baby and it’s never let me down. I’m the second owner. I also just bought a project 2002 GS430 for $1000, it’s a project car needs a lot. But damn it drives nice still and that V8 sounds delicious
@Done told ya Jones Oh yeah. He really hit his stride. Thing is, he is very un PC, but not hateful, at least not to humans. A lot of personality. I think that went out with the Town Car.
An early Lexus model, errant goats, weather report for a state 2k miles away, long - dramatic sighs...... Bill is exactly what i need this Friday. And, I just made an old fashioned (Coronavirus Whisky) Nice
When I was 15, my best friend’s mother bought on of these for herself, (she was a tech entrepreneur) in bright red. It was always in the garage and we weren’t allowed to breathe near it. At the time it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Fast forward 3 years later and she let him use it to pick up his prom date. Even in 1999 everyone’s jaw dropped when he pulled up in it. What a great car.
That V8 sounds smooth as silk. And it can still run all day at high speed without breaking a sweat just like the day it rolled off the assembly line; except it’s over 20 years old.
You know, I really look up to you, Bill. I really admire your sanity after all these years. I’m a teenager and I find myself loosing my marbles by the day. These videos keep me hanging on!
I was a Freshman in college when the SC 400 was introduced. I remember seeing one parked on Van Ness Avenue in the city (SF), and thought it was a super clean design. I love this channel.

I bought (and still own) an SC300 solely because a professor at my college owned one and I would walk past it almost every day and I absolutely loved it. “One day”, I kept thinking to myself. I agree, a very under appreciated but great car. Mine is my baby and only has 135,000 miles on it. Great video, thank you for your knowledge and your humor.
I owned a black '95 SC400. Fantastic car. I sold it at 210k miles. Kicking myself to this day that I got rid of it. Was still running like new. Perfect cruiser for a 500 mile trip.
Had a pearl white 1992 SC300 with the rare 5 speed from 2011 to 2018. It was in similar shape to this one, 1 owner with 60k miles when I bought it, still smelled new. It was my "main" car in those years, had a junky truck I drove sometimes to keep the miles off the Lexus/park on the street. I must say it is my favorite in all the cars I've ever owned, looked absolutely fabulous, didn't fall apart or give me any major grief despite being 20+ years old, drove like a lot more modern car as well(ie good brakes, tight steering, good power, quiet, no squeaks/rattles, extremely well built)
This channel deserves to have at least half the world subscribed to it! I love the way you incorporate history into your videos. As a Lexus sc400 owner, I appreciate not just your take on the Lexus sc400/300, but the appreciation overall for 90’s Japanese cars!!!
This old convoluted man is hilarious 😂 what the hell lmao. Yo I’m so glad you teaching these youngsters about the Sc the all mighty big poppa! Daddy to the supra, great big daddy of the LC500 like this car is just nuts I can go on about it for days about this car like this old guy In this video 😂. The Sc400 was my dream car as a kid/teen (currently 23) and always knew they were special since day 1! Now I own 2 of these beautiful V8 monsters ! And will keep them till the day I die ! Hell yeah I’m going to mod and hot rod that 1uz (supercharge)😂🔥! Lexus was really in the pursuit of perfection and did what they promised and exceeded expectations! That’s why I’m currently searching for a 3rd Sc maybe a 2jz this time !?
Wow, what a classic. I remember when these came out as a kid, and they were amazing. I wish I would have picked up a nice SC300 w/ manual transmission years ago when one could find them.
The president of our company bought this car when they first came out - trading in his 4-door Acura Legend - his SC400 was navy blue with the light cream, gold package and chrome wheels - the most beautiful SC400 I have ever seen. It was a very elegant car.
I’m new to your channel, first video watched. I love it! A weather report, wildlife issues, music, history & geopolitical lessons, auto histories, etc,. Bring back the ash trays!!! 🚬 Beautiful!! Corona virus Whiskey 🥃. 👍🏾
Always likes the SC model. The SC300 w/ a 5 spd manual continues to quickly appreciate in value. And like all SC's, they were over-built and could possibly survive a nuclear attack.
Great video Bill, most people have their coffee fix, I get my fix watching /listening to your videos. It's the realism and no P. C. that I and your other viewers, cheer up on.
I ADORE these cars Bill, and your video and explanation history background, all of it was perfection. My grandfather had a black 1993 SC400 he bought brand new. I always thought it was a spaceship growing up. He sold it couple years ago for $4,000 with 280,000 miles. He reupholstered the interior and it was flawless. I wish I could’ve had it. He also has an SC430
As a relatively new owner of a 1992 SC400 with low mileage that I bought off BaT last fall I can say that this video was really fun to watch. I agree wholeheartedly with your review of the car, and your knowledge about the car and the time of its origin are very interesting and worth sharing. The only thing I found difficult about your video was its overall length. Don't get me wrong though, definitely enjoyed your sense of humor along the way and had a good laugh too, but feel that this video should have been around 20-25 minutes long instead of 43. Just my opinion though, and don't change on my account. However, I will say that I'm someone who really does appreciate content like this so I wanted to watch the entire video, but ended up speeding it up and skipping around a bit due to the length. Happy New Year, and I'm quite happy to be a new subscriber to your channel.
Also to correct Mr Bill, the SC300 came out in 1992. Had the 2JZ-GE engine found in the base model Supra and Lexus GS300 sedan(man was that a snooze fest, the 1st gen). No turbochargers, but still silky smooth and loved to rev. Reason I say this is I used to own a 1992 SC300, with the factory 5 speed. Same transmission used in Toyota trucks, it shifted nicely but required a bit more arm strength than any other Japanese car/truck I've owned. It wasn't buttery smooth/effortless/easy to slam shift like a Honda or Mazda Miata transmission. Still though you'd never miss your gate or do the dumb 2 to 1 upshift trying to find 3rd with the SC, it was a good bit better than the Toyota truck shifter(which was quite good for a truck IMO)
For my 21st bday in 1992, my parents told me to go pick out the new car I wanted; I settled on the SC400 and Legend coupe as finalists. I got the Acura but only because the Lexus dealer was an a-hole and would not negotiate with me because I was a “kid;” he did not understand that my parents told me to arrive at a final price with the dealer and then they’d cut a check for the amount. They despised the BS associated with buying new cars. I really loved that SC, but was quite happy with the Legend, which was a bit sportier for a knucklehead kid like me. Another great video!

@Modern Classic Collectables Origin: The name Anthony comes from the Roman family name Antonius. Its meaning is debated, though some say it means “priceless one” or “highly praiseworthy.” Gender: Anthony is generally used as a boy's name. However, feminine variations, such as Antonia and Antoinette, are common for girls. Hope this helps.
A little late getting to this one, but glad to see you came across such a nice example to not only present, but clearly also appreciated. The Lexus SC400 stands out to me because it was the last car my dad drove before he died. I want to say he had a '94? It was also his first Japanese car ever, and I don't remember getting the chance to ask him what drew him to it or how he liked it, but I got to drive it while going back and forth to visit him in the hospital (back in the mid-nineties). I just remember it was very smooth, comfortable, and kept up with the insane LA traffic nicely. The design has definitely aged very well, and the spoiler on the '93 in your video is especially cool. I would love to get back behind the wheel of one of them if the opportunity came around again. But as you noted, it would not come cheap at this point.
if you like the dash in this my soarer japan import has a digital dash and some models has a touch screen sat nav in the 90s!!! also high end models had active air suspension
Bill, I just love that you'll open a video showing those goofy-ass goats stalking you. You're car knowledge is astounding. Keep up the great work, can't stop watching.
@@labornurse that is good, this weekend in Scotland we had sun and clear skies and literally an hour later it was snowing yesterday! I end up driving it in all weather conditions.
Run Bill...the goats are coming for you! It wouldn't be Bill from Curious Cars without his rants. I love it! Keep it up along with the great car reviews!
I was looking for an LS400 in June 2019 and found a '96 SC400, beige, some service history, new tires, 188K miles, interior great, broken right side mirror, $2,750. I love it. Sunroof drain got unhooked and flooded the floorboard which gave me the opportunity to learn much more about the car than I ever intended, Still love it.
I had a very cool client who owned one of these SC300 and she loved it. The only caveat she mentioned was to not open the doors too much, I didn't fully appreciate the significance being created with Global cars at the time, but everything worked flawlessly. Glad you made another fine video for your loyal fans, keep on rollin' with the whiskey therapy!
Bill!! Don’t change a thing man! Your videos all sound cohesive to me. I’m truly amazed how you can have a goat or cat scare and still keep your focus and train of thought. I’d be lost at that point. The cargo child restraint netting gag still kills me every time!! As a Cdn I truly get the back seat thing. Been there!!
I have 99 SC300 auto with 249,000 on it, in excellent condition in CA. No rust, bullet proof 2JZ. Paid $1600 for it 3yrs ago. Amazing car! Thanks for the confirmation
You are happy to get the SC400 in the US. Here in germany we have less than 20 SC400! I've never seen an other one on the road. It took me 10years to find one. More than Happy to own one !
I still daily mine, and it's HEAVENLY. I'm 50 now, so I'm not racing every yahoo out there (anymore), so I don't care if I'm not the fastest guy on the boy racer scene. But, "Luxury spec Supra," is exactly the perfect description of the driving experience of this thing. It's a Supra with wood, leather, (barely) usable back seats and a fairly large trunk. I can live with this and be happy every day. And when I feel like going, "get arrested," speeds, this car still has everything you need to accomplish that. Thank you for making this video.
hey bill, right at the end of the video you talk about how you were going to regret letting this car go and how you wish you had a big building to have all of the cars that you would have liked to have kept. which kind of asks the obvious question. can you provide a top 10, or even top 20, list of the cars that you would most like to be able to have in your collection? your knowledge about cars, and the history of cars, is extensive and broad. you aren't just a sports car guy or a luxury car guy, you're a car guy. you know a whole lot about a whole lot of different cars. and I'm pretty certain that I'm not alone in loving the idea of knowing what your top 20 cars would be. and why you would choose them. and I'm going to guess that, not unlike Jay leno, your list would include cars from All through the ages because you genuinely appreciate different aspects of different vehicles from all different eras. so if you find yourself bored sometime, perhaps doing 20 different videos about the 20 cars that you would love to own. I know that i, for one, would happily subscribe to your onlyfans page just to see those videos.
Actually been looking at these for around 8 mo off and on now, and seeing the price explode from being a crispy $8k car to a crispy $19k car broke my heart.
I know someone who got the sc400 right after it came out and they were going to let me drive it but i wasn't even 16. They were never common up here (midwest)and i can't remember the last time i saw one. I also love the gs400.
I've had multiple SC's they're over built and totally underrated, my current SC has a built motor 2jzgte swap with a v160 trans. Not sure if i could ever sell this thing!
heck yea bro. Ive had a gs3 since fresh outta high school. I just bought my first sc this year 98 black on black low miles so clean. Back to back with it, turbo dreaming
I got a history lesson while watching a car review. This was awesome. I’m picking up a Lexus sc400 1999 tomorrow with 99,000 miles. It’s $14,000. Well worth it
I'm waiting for the video of where he has Bill tied to a chair, lights a smoke with an oxy-acetylene torch, turns to Bill and says slowly "So, you don't like the way I detail the cars eh?,...."
Thanks for showing off this gem! Always had a soft spot for these ol gals. Side note- With the chip shortage, "coof", stimulus and unemployment problems good used cars are at an all time premium right now. Even me trying to find cheap savable Saab 9³'s is getting hard right now.
I had a black 1992 SC400 and a Green 1995 SC300 . The Black v8 was a cool car and most people were impressed when I opened the hood and they saw that 4 liter V8 .
Which one did you like best? Would you recommend buying one if a a great original condition could be found? It appears the quality is flawless on these models.
One of my favorite cars, the first Lexus cars were so great, Lexus still had a point to prove and gave it their all to make these cars. Just wonderful.
Another winner of a video here - and he also reviews a car for a bit! Love your videos!!!! Corona-whiskey is effective at all times of the day but I've also had to move my start time back for dropping the hammer on it haha
Proud owner of a '98 silver over black SC400 with 45,000 original miles. Nakamichi, matching golf bag, all books and manuals. Museum piece. I doubt if I'll ever sell mine either.
These are my favorite Lexus coupes had few hot wheels of these still love them. Lexus is a great brand made by Toyota my favorites are SCs, LS and ES 350 models.
I had a 300SC with Supra Twin Turbo brakes, springs, and swaybars and a 6-speed manual gearbox. Bolt on no problem as you would imagine. The handling was astounding. My daughter drove with me a lot in those days a
Your videos and eastenders are my essential weekly viewing, Keep up the good work! But watch out for those goats...they will have you one day! Love from uk
I remember as a pre-teen riding shotgun in one of these doing 140+ MPH. 99 SC400 Black on Black with chromed out Konigs.. It was hott with two T's in 2000!
First, and I have to say this, even though I don't like to. You appear to have an almost phobic dislike of animals! I was always taught to instinctively distrust someone who doesn't like animals. Having said that, you always produce these fascinating and down-to-earth videos of some very interesting cars; therefore, you must be something of a "petrolhead" as we call it here in the UK; so it can't all be bad. This car reminds me of a Nissan SX200 in design; very attractive, thank goodness it's a Lexus! I gues the 400 V8 is the same as the one found in the LS400 - bullet-proof and powerful. (I have a small collection of Lexus cars). It's quite understated inside too, which is a surprise. I don't have one of these cars, they were never sold here as far as I know; but I'm certainly going to look out for one. I drive a Lexus GS300 SE-L which is a truly wonderful car. Very, very fast, extremely comfortable, silent and reliable. However, I'm considering buying an SC430 for this summer's show season, (I belong to a JDM club), and would value your opinion on these cars. Reviews here are very conflicting, and I'm not int e rested in buying a "project", however promising. If you can find the time to drop me a response with your personal opinion of the SC430, I'd be grateful. Keep up the very entertaining videos
I was 5 years old back in 1993 when my aunt and uncle bought a black 1993 SC400. They bought it brand new from Butler Lexus in Macon, GA. Butler Lexus was the first Lexus dealer that came to Georgia back in the early 90s. Fun Fact: They still own the car today with 360,000 miles on it and on the 2nd paint job. Its their "rental car" when their other cars have to go in the shop. My uncle just drove the Lexus to and from Texas a month ago and he said it gave him ZERO issues and was very smooth.
Thanks for sharing the information on the Lexus SC400, I enjoyed the presentation and, also agree with your assessment, that these cars are a hidden jewel, but not for much longer! Key point, which is often overlooked regarding the SC400, is that, it's a front/mid engine platform and this contributes greatly to it's good handling characteristics...even with a soft suspension.👍
Bill- The $1Billion Dollar investment research from Lexus was for the engine development only. Nothing else. All other costs were ON TOP of the billion dollars. Great video by the way!
I enjoyed the video and love Lexus cars specially the old ones. I had a 96 Lexus sc 400 in black and love it many years ago in NYC. I also had 2 lexus sc 430 and loved both of them. Good experience all times with Lexus very reliable cars. Peace and Love NYC.
90s to early 00s Lexus were just so well done

I have a 1992 SC400 mileage 192000. It's a champagne color. It was my husband's. I love driving this car. I just can't get rid of it. 👍🌞
I LOVE the "Oh My God" when the cat walked across the driveway. I laughed my ass off. Love you Bill. :) :)
GOOD OL DALTON..he cleaned the hell out of that engine bill even polished the radiator hoses
He's watching the vids.
@@cardo1111 I know he probably does...I wonder what he thinks about bill....wouldn't it be funny if they lived on the same street?
if you like the dash in this my soarer japan import has a digital dash and some models has a touch screen sat nav in the 90s!!! also high end models had active air suspension
Welcome back Bill, I have missed you, sorry that the Goats are back again. Glad that the weather is to your requirements
Hello Ron. I am also sorry about the goats, and while the weather was OK in the morning, this afternoon left much to be desired.
@@curiouscars9282 that sucks with the weather, here in England it is very cold, it should be 15c but it is 7c
Bill, I just love that you'll open a video showing those goofy-ass goats stalking you. You're car knowledge is astounding. Keep up the great work, can't stop watching.
great video Bill, here for the comments and weather! I love my SC430 tbh
Yes, hardtop convertibles for the win!
@@labornurse Yeah, I enjoy mine. Do you use yours much?
@@RevLexus I've started taking it out more since the weather has turned nice. I never drive it in rain or snow.
Bill almost had a heart attack when that cat strolled by 🤣😆😆🤣
That was not a cat. That was a monster. Did you see the size of that thing?

Love the videos as is, keep up the great reviews. Great knowledge 😃👍
I have 99 SC300 auto with 249,000 on it, in excellent condition in CA. No rust, bullet proof 2JZ. Paid $1600 for it 3yrs ago. Amazing car! Thanks for the confirmation
Haha Bill your trip to 1993 was epic as always 😂
You are happy to get the SC400 in the US.
Here in germany we have less than 20 SC400!
I've never seen an other one on the road.
It took me 10years to find one.
More than Happy to own one !
Truly a great video! Thank you for iconizing this great car! Never gonna give up on my "Sandstone Beige" 1992 SC300!
Bill !!! Even without a teleprompter, you are doing wayyyy better than a certain someone I dare not to mention...😁
Lexus is KING 👑 of reliability and fit and finish!. This one was kept in beautiful condition
Excellent cars
hey bill, right at the end of the video you talk about how you were going to regret letting this car go and how you wish you had a big building to have all of the cars that you would have liked to have kept.
which kind of asks the obvious question.
can you provide a top 10, or even top 20, list of the cars that you would most like to be able to have in your collection?
your knowledge about cars, and the history of cars, is extensive and broad. you aren't just a sports car guy or a luxury car guy, you're a car guy. you know a whole lot about a whole lot of different cars.
and I'm pretty certain that I'm not alone in loving the idea of knowing what your top 20 cars would be. and why you would choose them.
and I'm going to guess that, not unlike Jay leno, your list would include cars from All through the ages because you genuinely appreciate different aspects of different vehicles from all different eras.
so if you find yourself bored sometime, perhaps doing 20 different videos about the 20 cars that you would love to own.
I just picked up a GS430 (2002) for a grand! My new project car haha. Drives so nice !
Well worth it
That picture of Dalton always cracks me up, he looks like an Anime character.
I'm waiting for the video of where he has Bill tied to a chair, lights a smoke with an oxy-acetylene torch, turns to Bill and says slowly "So, you don't like the way I detail the cars eh?,...."
@@barbershoppodcast
I think Bill would snap first and have Dalton tied to a chair like in Reservoir Dogs.

Great review as usual, Bill, but my god.. That AC system sounds like a 747 with all four engines at maximum thrust.. LOL
@@giggiddy v8 faster and sounds better, black onyx 202 is a gem
One of my favorite cars, the first Lexus cars were so great, Lexus still had a point to prove and gave it their all to make these cars. Just wonderful.
Bill Pahl, is that you? I just picked up a 97 SC300 and found this video. Nice to hear your voice. Tell Peter I said hello!
Another winner of a video here - and he also reviews a car for a bit! Love your videos!!!! Corona-whiskey is effective at all times of the day but I've also had to move my start time back for dropping the hammer on it haha
I subbed for the scatterbrained format. Great review.
Have some love for life. Cats and goats are awesome. I hope theyre well cared for.. just bought my second manual Sc300 yesterday. Love these cars
Glad someone finally made a good video on one of these, I’ve got a 97 Pearl white 400, never selling that car
Proud owner of a '98 silver over black SC400 with 45,000 original miles. Nakamichi, matching golf bag, all books and manuals. Museum piece. I doubt if I'll ever sell mine either.
Looks so much better in the early guise like this than the later ones with side skirts.
My daughter drove with me a lot in those days a
Your videos and eastenders are my essential weekly viewing,
Keep up the good work!
But watch out for those goats...they will have you one day!

I remember as a pre-teen riding shotgun in one of these doing 140+ MPH. 99 SC400 Black on Black with chromed out Konigs.. It was hott with two T's in 2000!
Thank u bill finally a lexus sc
1993 was the year I figured out that life can kick your ass. It started off great and went to shit pretty fast.
Had a 5 speed Legend LS coupe in the 90s. Still miss it and always wanted an SC. Good luck finding either of them now!
i worked for a Lexus dealer for 14 years, the sc-400 is a great car

That interior is so smooth and creamy. Very luxurious!!
I miss my ‘98 SC300 so bad. It got flooded during Sandy. The most beautiful, flawless car, I have ever owned…
That must have been heartbreaking. Sorry.
Thanks for doing this one on the SC300! I'm subbed now!
Bill- The $1Billion Dollar investment research from Lexus was for the engine development only. Nothing else. All other costs were ON TOP of the billion dollars. Great video by the way!
The V8 engine on these is legendary
Here so early Bill didn't have time to talk about the goats yet
Spoke too soon! 😄
After several weeks of nothing they were out today. Then the one started running at me.
