grandson: OH NO!!! (A SOCIAL EXPERIMENT)

- The following is a study on the power of anonymity.
I was first motivated to bring this concept to life as I watched modern discourse, political and otherwise, devolve into vitriolic tribalism, fueled by our ability to hide behind a screen, a username, an online profile. A mask. My DMs became increasingly polarized, my safety threatened, my integrity and values questioned. I began to wonder how people would behave if we were having a face to face conversation. I wanted to find out how hurtful, or how compassionate, complete strangers would be towards one another if given some sort of social impunity. 25 people given a free pass to treat another human being however they wanted. This is what happened on that day.
The song Oh No!!! is about self destructive behavior and the moment when you feel your mental health getting in the way of your ability to live your life. In some way these masked strangers also represented those thoughts and impulses beyond my control.
This experiment largely inspired by the work of Marina Abramovic and Shia LaBeouf's #IAMSORRY .

this was one of the craziest days of my life. We really pushed the boundaries of how far I'm willing to go as a performance artist, and put my safety in the hands of total strangers.

In short.
This man is a good person. It doesn't matter how he looks or how he sings, he's a good dude.
Only man with empathy😢
Based on...?
Right, thanks for your deep psych analysis.
People are disturbing... Except that last guy. That last guy is nice seeming
He could do so many terrible things and decides to have conversation r/wholesome
Tbh I'd be the same way. I feel bad for just bumping into someone
Only seemingly. He is really not that much different from the rest of the derelicts. He appeared to have a moment or two of empathy, however, when he realized that he would actually have to put forth some effort and would probably get his hands dirty, he decided to cut and run and join back up with the shit that had been in the room before him. Those 25 people are just a microcosm of "modern" society. Self-involved, self-fulfilling, thoughtless, ignorant, oblivious, cruel...all just small parts contributing to the huge pile of shit that our society has become. Apple guy had the opportunity to make a difference and turned his back on it. "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing".

Same.
They stopped the experiment there for that anonymous guy.
I feel like this is a solid representation of online anonymity. Trash talk, online fights, harassment- these are so easy to do because it’s not like you have a reputation to uphold or an audience to please, right? You could literally do whatever and no one would know who you are. That’s the bittersweet beauty of it.
As always, awesome video Grandson!
exactly.
That's what I was thinking too! Glad someone thought the same. 😁
I mean, to be fair, the way this is all set up was, I think, inviting such behaviour to some extent. In a environment that would encourage conversation instead, I think there'd be only two who'd act like the majority there did - I think it's more of a showcase of how dangerous it is that a lot of people will be that degrading if given the chance and even the slightest encouragement.
Unless your a hacker or something, and BAM ! there toast ! 😂😂😂
To be fair some items could not be used in a nice way!
It would be nice to know if he knew what items would/could be on the table.
But there is no real anonymity in the internet and we know it, which is part of the reason why the internet is not completly full of hate and insults.
Peaple are this way on privat web-forums though, especially in those that are not open publicly.
I've read somewhere in the comments that it makes a difference if there would be a third person (someone who only watches but doesn't intervene) in there or only the two and i think we can say the camera counts as such a third person..
What i would like to know is, how was the experience, to be more specific: how was the psychological stress after this day, do you think you know more about human behavior .. For me it would be traumatic.. Respect! Also what were the limits those ppl had to agree on (the paperwork)?
"If you want a apple I gotchu" guy for president
Holy shit yeah
That can be his campaign tagline
until you realize the second he said "you're gonna have to feed it to me," Apple Guy dips out with a sudden case of the "not confident enough with my own sexuality and there's a chance that feeding a shirtless blindfolded man covered in condiments could make me feel a way I'm not prepared to deal with right now...besides SOMEONE could JUDGE me and being cool is WAY cooler than having INTEGRITY"
@@ashleymorgan8978 is there an issue in him not wanting to feed someone that's not related to him in anyway shape or form? Vivica Ophelia yo honestly I'd just have a good conversation with him and then maybe feed him something or just something lol the most I'd really do is just pour water over his head to have some fun but that's only bc it's harmless and it dries out well
you should see Remote Control by derren brown. its the same as this but upped to 100. an audience of people, wearing masks for anonymity, were given control over what they were told was a random stranger's actual life. the audience voted to have him falsely accused of sexual harassment, to have his property (tv, xbox, etc.) broken, to have him believe he was being fired, and to have him kidnapped, among other things. people lose their morals once given anonymity.
I mean, one guy *did* feed him a banana, so maybe that one was sympathetic

Imagine some bitch ass came into your home all the time, took your food and left. You'd be pretty pissed.
@@Narrow_Gate_Forge Sharks mistake us for seals. Most of the time you get bit and then it swims off. And you know what happens after that? Humans hunt for it. They find it and they pull it out of the water with a net and kill it, only a couple hours after having it out on display.
People still hunt sharks for their fins. They pull them out of the water, cut off their fins while they're alive and aware, and throw them back in. It sinks to the bottom of the ocean and drowns.

The Problem is that the scenario was made to push them into their very worrest. If there were no one that told them to do what they want, no objekts and no chance that this was planed, they all would have freed him. This is an awesome representation of a psycho-social experiment of anonymity in relation to torture and behaviors
It reminds me of the Stanford Prison experiment or the Bystander Effect.
The prison experiment had a clear divide of power between guards and prisoners. This was reflected in the torture. The bystander effect shows how someone is willing to do something when no one else is around. But would otherwise not be as likely to participate when other people are involved.
@@addisonramsey5338 thanks to you, I remember that other experiment. But hearing it again - didn't they have at least a little bit of empathy for the prisoners? I don't want to call everyone who threw something at grandson or hurt the prisoners an asshole and put them below myself, but I was terrified watching this, mostly because he said there had been about 2 guys just talking to him. I mean, it's something unique and you want to try it, but... Idk. It worries me
HHOO PPLLAA from the research I’ve done (as a psychology major), I’ve crossed paths with the Stanford prison experiment many times. The experiment was discontinued due to the abuse and psychological torture inflicted on the prisoners. It had gotten so bad the night guards thought no one would be watching and the “experiment was off” and chose to degrade the prisoners in a more pornographic manner. The experiment was supposed to last 2 weeks but was cut short 6 days into the experiment. Look at prisonexp.org to review the story of the experiment. It was also discontinued because of the ethical concerns of harm being done on an individual. The inhumane reality of the experiment
HHOO PPLLAA I don’t believe the people in grandsons experiment are bad. It is just based on the psychological associations of the individual. The prison experiment did extensive psychological evaluation before the experiment on the guards. When the guards became violent towards to prisoners. The psychologists expressed they did not have evidence to support that the guards would have acted in that behavioral manner.
Isn’t it amazing how many people are willing to degrade and humiliate another person under the veil of anonymity rather than feed them an apple?
Conclusion: You got a haircut and a dinner in some extreme ways
If i were there, I would just eat the apple in front of you.
Cause I'm hungry
It gives me great comfort that my first and only thought when they started to abuse him like that, was "no matter if I was completely anonymous I could never do that, I would dry him off and help him instead" I don't get people who find satisfaction in other people's pain or humiliation, it's so far from my mindset
But this is very very interesting and such an important message, it is a brilliant metaphor for online anonymous hate.

FBI Open up the human nature is sadistic so it’s best if we release ourselves from time to time. We aren’t built to be nice and Respectful and Disciplined. The human nature is mad. I think this experiment shows normal human nature in its true colors.
This is like a mixture between Twenty one pilots and Rage against the machine
3:30 This man, true legend. *''If you want a apple I gotchu bro''*
He didn't give one
That guy at the end is the greatest have all our love
I see a lot of people talking about how this video exposes "true human nature", but I'm not really sure about that. I think there's definitely some selection bias here. Like, what kind of people do you think are going to respond to a craigslist ad for an experiment where they can do whatever they want to someone? I mean, watching it, I was thinking "If I was there I woulda tried to help clean him up or something. Not torture the poor boy.", but also, I'm not the kind of person that would end up in this situation in the first place, and I'm willing to bet that most people wouldn't do things like what was done here.
I would call it "human nature stripped free from social norms and moral". How we might act, if we knew there were absolutely zero consequences. No laws, no society, no values.
But yes, selection bias likely led to an exaggerated result. But I don’t know how you can rule it out with such an experiment and a sample of 25 people. They might have been influenced by what the people before them did.
It's hard to say what you would do. Cause you dont known unless your in that situation.

@@nicky58 yeah, and the inmates where also dehumanized by shaving their heads and stuff
I read about the Stanford Prison Experiment about maybe two weeks ago.
And yeah, you're right, this video reminds me too.
I talked about this video in my sociology class and we used it to learn about best opportunity samples
As and artist I would just sit there and draw him because I need to practice anatomy
Is nobody going to talk about the fact that, that woman just made out with him 😂😂😂
I would have done the same tho honestly he is pretty hot 👀
No More weirdo
Really fucked up : P
@@nomore4439 ew.
I would maybe ask first, grandson seems to be conversational (he wasn't gagged or unable to withdraw consent suddenly if he wished) if he said 'sure go for it' then I might proceed, but if he's like 'i'd rather you don't' I wouldn't.
WHO IS BETTER???

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
the video isnt even out yet and you are already commenting shit like this
Did she ask before she kissed you? Or do I need to get the consent squad?
Great question. Imma reply in this section so i can kbow the answer too
Hiccup broo
Looked hot tho
+1
I mean.... did she need consent since she already kind of got it... cuz she was aloud to do what ever
This video saddened me so much; I'll openly confess I cried. This is the state of our world and it is... ugly. I could never think of doing such horrendous things even if I WAS granted permission. I know if I came across someone bound to a chair and sitting in the situation you were in I would rush to try and help them. I would do anything I could to try and talk to them let them know they would be okay, that its over...
I pray to the Gods our world changes for the better.
I come back to this video every month or so and I still can’t believe that Jordan willingly went through all of this shit. Like man I would probably go crazy after the first 2/3 people but nah, he just sat there and let everyone to decide what they want to do with him. It’s kinda scary what people can do when everything is anonymous.
was there any moment when you felt incredibly unsafe, like when the guy pulled out the lighter and spray? When you watched it back did you realize how close you could've gotten to serious injury?
X X
I was low key freaking out at that scene too.
Ok, the lighter and the spray scared me, but are we not gonna talk about the dude who nearly suffocated him with paper towels?
Ash LaLiberte I agree.
now the question is, after you"ve been there, how would you treat someone else strapped to the chair?
Den | omg that’s a really interesting point of view
Well if there is a pie amma eat it it would be a waste to trow it in someones face bruh.
My anxiety did not like this at all..
You would be safer in your bell tower...
@@jessblackwolf5333 yesssss
Lmao ok.
I wonder how different the behavior would be if each time a person came into the room it was a fresh base/no evidence of previous actions...I feel like mob mentality plays a huge role in this. Along with the anonymity factor, the tone that was set by what the people can visibly see occurred before them probably affected what they decided to do. “Well clearly other people did this, so me doing this isn’t as bad” “someone did this so I’m gonna one up that by doing this” etc. Also the nature of the items that were placed in the room could suggest how you’re expected to act. The power of the situation definitely has to be taken into account.
either way tho.... still super messed up what these people did from behind a mask. I genuinely can’t imagine treating a person like that, regardless of if they can see me...especially if they’re physically restrained and clearly not having the best of experiences.
Oh god, this is a very different point of view. Thank you
@@laulavinia thank you!
Grandson is one of the greatest artist that I know. I've been for all my life very interested in psychology and sociology, and I feel really disappointed about this world's direction, the Power in governments, no equality... and his messages are always so deep. thank for what your doing.. great changes statr from ourself, but all togheter we're stronger. against all kind of oppression, abuses, and injustified violence. Yes, injustified, because in a world like this one, sometime is sadly necessary. Grandson, thanks for your music and your social commitment, and a peaceful life for all of you.
are you okay Jordan? Like physically and mentally?
Welp, how did this whole thing feel? I can imagen it was not nice having someone else's toungh in his mouth that you don't know and don't see what's happening.
it was pretty fascinating. pretty weird. i left feeling more alive than ever before. it felt something like getting a big tattoo or coming down from LSD. A surreal experiments that made me learn a lot about myself and about people in general.
@@grandson Wow, that's a lot of info. Thanks for answering, appreciated. 🙏 🙏

That nice guy at the end saves what is called humanity 🙌
In psychology, deindividuation is the process of losing self-awareness and self-restraint when group participation makes people aroused and anonymous. It's what usually leads to mob violence.
Them: *does anything to grandson*
Me: *jaw drop the whole video*
Pfp checks out
Everybody in the comments: omg I would never do that to someone!
Me: haha yeah....totally
we’re really just gonna brush off the gurl who straight up kissed him? i just hope she got consent beforehand, if she just did it that wouldn’t be okay at ALL
I would have loved that so much
him: “what are you going to do to me”
Me: *sits down* “can I just like hug you and cry”
I wouldn’t have the heart to do that to anyone. Even if I didn’t like them.
With all that products on him, you would have huged him?
@@alexn.1446 yea why not
The dislike is whoever that had to clean this up
love how the guy at the end goes silent when he realizes he has to feed Jordan the apple
