I've been cooking bacon in the oven for a few yrs now & love this method! I do mine at 375° for 15 min (for normal/thin-sliced bacon). Sometimes, it may need 1-2 mins more because of the variations in thickness & for thick-sliced bacon. It comes out crisp (like you & I like it!). I set the parchment-lined half sheet pan on the stovetop slightly tipped, so the lovely bacon fat flows to one side, off the bacon. Love that crispy snap!
we love oven cooked bacon, We also use our portable cast iron griddle to cook it outside sometimes as well. avoiding the stove top seems to help w keeping that strong smell down,,,,we have never tried cooking from a pot, but maybe we will
I cook mine in the over. However, if I could find a cast iron saucer, I thin that would combine the best of both worlds--high sides and cast iron. And stainless steel.
Thanks! It worked great for me and love that there is no mess. I have a dedicated pot for this and once it cools I place the whole pot in the fridge for next time.@@nelsonfarmshomesteading
I usually cook bacon in a microwave until hundreds of little bubbles form on the surface. I've seen others cook bacon in the oven (and in a skillet with water) and you'll also see hundreds of little bubbles form on the surface. All of the fat is cooked out, but it is chewy at this stage. I think you'd want to continue cooking until all of those bubbles disappear and the bacon snaps (and is well done).
I cook my bacon in the oven at 375 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until it's as done as we like it to be. It gets placed on a parchment lined cookie sheet or silicone sheet. Turns out great. Cooks the same as if it was done in a pot because it cooks in its own fat. Then I put it on paper towel. If it's elevated, the fat drains off and the bacon is more dry and loses its flavor.
Making bacon in the microwave works perfectly for just me. In a glass pie pan I place 3 strips folded in half vertically covering with a top, cook for 4 minutes, take out and drain the bacon grease, flip it over and repeat and drain again. Easy-peasy, works perfectly and I'm left with a square of perfectly cooked bacon with no pan to clean.
@@Bobrogers99 Allow me to correct your statement: It doesn''t taste the same to YOU, because it tastes fine to me and I've been eating bacon for over 60 years now.
OVERDONE!!, but to each their own. My wife likes her bacon crispy......I don't. I like it in the oven for 20 minutes. Cold oven set to 425F. By the time it hits that temp you have like five min. left. I think perfect.
This was very helpful! Honestly never really cooked pork bacon routinely until 3-4 years ago. I’m in my sixties, haha! It’s so messy and makes the house smell. I’ll try the pot and also make a variation of the oven method.
Your pot cooked bacon was better because you cooked it in bacon fat, which you did not do for the oven version. I cook mine on a cookie sheet in the oven, but I cover it with parchment and a second cookie sheet, so it comes out perfectly flat. This is not really necessary, but I like flat pieces for BLTs.
I've only seen Dr. Berry do it in a pot--- but then- I don't cook it at all-- it's TOO EXPENSIVE.... went to WALMART yesterday and a small pack was $10.98 and didn't even look good.. I can eat a plate full by myselfand NOT even be full... so I can NOT afford it right now--- I actually bought a CHUCK STEAK for $5 , and that means I can have 2 steaks for what ONE plate of bacon costs.. which is a shame-- I LOVE bacon.
Cooking bacon in the oven would be ideal for making BLT sandwiches. Cooking bacon in a pot would be ideal if you're just placing the bacon on a breakfast plate with your eggs and toast.
I definitely prefer the oven. 100% 400° for approximately 20-25 minutes. Usually thicker slices and I like 'em chewy to slightly crisp. I use like ½" deep cookie trays, line them aluminum foil and place cooling racks on top. Bake the bacon on the cooling racks and let the oil drip down so I can easily collect it once it cools a little. I can be way more precise with doneness as compared to the pot method which, for me, just resulted in almost burnt bacon and uneven cooks.
I don't like my bacon that well done. But you can just stop at a little bit sooner. It's a perfect method cooking bacon in a tall pot. No mess and all gets cooked in its own fat. I don't know why more people don't realize this. Everything else is a pain in the ass
put bacon in a cold oven. Turn to 400 degrees. When it gets to temp, set your timer. 8 minutes on average, but thickness dictates that. You messed up with the rack. It tastes better when it cooks in its own grease. It browns just fine. Not a valid comparison, cause you decided that it needed to be out of the grease,
I like mine in the oven. 400° for 20 minutes on aluminum foil comes out perfect for me.
Nice!!
@@scottmason6282 There is zero difference in the two sides of aluminum foil, unless you buy the non-stick variety.
I like oven method because you don’t have to watch it. Parchment paper rather than foil makes cleanup easy
Oh yeah. I haven’t tried it with parchment paper! Great idea.

Yes, that snap!!!!!
Sitting in the grease on the foil in the oven helps make it crispy. I like my bacon flatter and crispy so it works out great and cleanup is so easy.
Yeah!

Outside is a great idea!
I love the pot, having done both
I keep going back to the pot also. 😀
You don’t have to elevate in oven. It’ll crisp up in its grease.
Yeah!!
Hey,if its bacon count me in. I don't care how its being cooked 😂🤣😅🥓
Well, I tend to agree with you!! 😂
Great video!!
Thanks
Great idea!! i did try this method in a pot, with a half cup water, came out great! had BLT's!
Good stuff!
I like mine cooked in the air fryer best. Also, if you cut into 4ths instead of half, there's less curling.
I may try the air fryer. Ours is kinda small though, so it may not be efficient.
I cook mine in the over. However, if I could find a cast iron saucer, I thin that would combine the best of both worlds--high sides and cast iron. And stainless steel.
Oh I love cast iron!
Cool beans young lady.
Thank you!
I kinda thought it would curl in a pot.. GOOD VIDEO and good tips.. THANKS.
👍🏼
So in the pot..... on high???? How long does it take to turn brown/get crispy.
It took about 10 minutes. Med high.

What did you do to keep the pot fried bacon so flat?
Cut it in half and then laid it flat. Only a few pieces curled up.

In the pot, the bacon cooked in it's grease. In the oven you elevated it out of it's grease. Possible reason for taste difference.
👍🏼 makes sense!

Microwaved bacon just doesn't taste the same. It's quick and easy, but not as good.

Luckily, our whole family agrees on the overdone bacon. 😂 Makes it easy.
Use the bottom of the pan drippings for beans just add water or make soup
YESSSSS!

@@nelsonfarmshomesteading I loved the pot on the stove method! Less grease everywhere and the odor was reduced quite a bit!
Yay! Glad you liked it.
The best way to cook bacon, IS WITH HEAT! That's the only way.
True. It’s hard to get bacon wrong.

Yeah, it’s insane how expensive it’s gotten. I try to stock up and get it BOGO at our local Food Lion when they have a sale.
Use parchment paper, not aluminum foil. Much crispier and no need to elevate.
Never considered that. I’ll try it!

On the grill for me😊

You took the oven bacon out of the grease, the pot bacon cooked in the grease the whole time.
Yeah

Start with cold oven and set for 400°- works great. About 35 min in my oven. No rack, no foil.

It's not healthy to cook with aluminum foil though... Put nice demonstration
Tell me more about this!
Thats called break bacon
The best!

We can’t eat it any other way 😂

Nah that's overcooked!
No way! 😂

Overdone.
Just right 😝
the whole idea for using a pot, is it cooks in it's own grease.....pot wins...hands down
