I am fingering an E major using only my index finger on the A and E strings (fret 2), and using the back side of my fingertip to mute the G string (so there's no third in the chord). From there, I put my pinky down on the 4th fret of the D string (sounding an F#), then playing the E again, and then I am playing the D string open, then the 2nd Fret of A (sounding a B), then the A string open, and riposte to a B major chord. Emaj (muted 3rd) - E-F#-E-D-B-A, Bmaj. Hope it helps.
