Kevlar & titanium has been used in other sports for sometime. They have more tensile elongation meaning they stretch more than rigid carbon. Hence the "softness" they add when combined with carbon. But their elongation is limited meaning it will only stretch just a tad & stop. This provides the dynamic feel people have grown to love - soft when dinking but hard when driving! Kevlar or aramid fiber is quite unique. Its one of the stiffest fibers & absorbs shock very well. This is the reason it can catch bullets & adds comfort for senstive arms. The slight softness of padfle face also contributes to better spin as the ball sinking into the paddle face results in more mechanical friction as opposed to just surface friction!
Hey Lucas, thank you for all the details. Would really appreciate any feedback on the new Selkirk halo Max that’s coming out September 20. Would love to know your thoughts on the upgraded version. Thank you so much.
Really it should be simple. You could create a machine that hits with a certain amount of force and if it hits the ball faster than that speed or set determined speed then it’s outlawed they need to put specific guidelines in place and then let manufactures develop around that.
Awesome explanations. I've played everything now except the TI/Carbon face sheet. Waiting for some feedback from other reviewers before pulling the trigger. As for foam, I use the GB Pro Pwr E, and even some "non-approved" EVA models. My concern is with foam adhesion to other material. How will it last over time and impact, being "bonded" to Carbon or Polypro?? Hear that Nexus?
Thank you! The foam durability conundrum is going to be interesting and IMO would be a much more legitimate reason to ban them if it is an issue that doesn't get resolved.
please have a look at the Paddltek Bantam TKO-C which is gen1 but hits as hard as gen3. You might have an extra category after foam tech, which is core/epoxy tech. curious to know your thoughts.
What do you think of the "Kevlar & Carbon Fiber" mix paddles such as Mark Pickleball's Kinetic, Thrive's Azul, 11Six24 Pickleball's Hurache-X Control 14mm, Komodo's Katana, etc.?? Are they comparable or better than Honolulu Pickleball J2K 14mm & Six Zero Pickleball's Ruby, in your opinion??
The power was not what got Gen 3 de-listed. They got banned due to administration error. (The wrong paddles were submitted, the Gen 3 alpha paddles.) The Mod TA-15 came from the Gen 3 alpha paddle which were approved from that submission. That explains why Mod TA-15 is approved and is essentially the same paddle as a Gen 3.
Titanium is such a misnomer. Titanium was a miscommunication in Chinese language. It described the 'color' so in reality it's a titanium color which is 'Polyester' (not really titanium
Old guy newbie here who played tennis. Which of these would be best for control and spin? I always hit too hard in tennis so power is not an issue. 👍🇺🇲🗽
Great video! You may want to consider adding Proton's Nanotac surface of the Series One to the list though. I love the technology and the paddle has really helped me improve my game overall. Love the consistency of spin over time.
Luca, do you think tennis brands like Head and Wilson are getting close to the Vatic Pro and Selkirk in the pickleball world? Hope to get your thoughts on this.
I am a beginner, i am just playing with a very Basic Racket, i am looking for a racket which will help me to play control shots to keep the ball inside court and a all rounder racket better 100-150 usd?
I have hit the Hush - and it's quiet like they claim. it also hits like an EVA foam paddle, which are not approved for tournament play. I had to dial down everything just to keep the ball in. Very fun to hit.
Because the clip starts in the middle of the rally. If you rewatch the very beginning, you'll notice the ball is moving right to left and bounces before we see the first hit, which is likely the second in the actual rally.
The way Pickleball business is set up, there's too much focus on new paddles and market advantage. Sports should be about skills, technique, fun and joy. Buying the best paddle to whack your way through comp should be discouraged, like other major sports a certain equipment should not be about significant skill advantage. Soccer doesn't have boots that make you kick better than other.
This is such a weird take, you telling me they have never nor currently actively look to make new advances in the materials used in cleats? Shin guards? Even things like grip socks? Carbon fiber sole inserts?! Come off it, man. People will always try new things to get their most efficient version of themselves in sports; especially in competitive settings.
@@scottlyman7395 Classic, You are comparing Apple and Oranges. Every sports limits scope of technology on equipment that significantly enhances a players skills or abilities. For example in running super critical foams are prohibited in sneakers, so are carbon shanks. Bats have a very stringent specification and uses fairly basic tech. Soccer doesn't have shoes that makes player run faster. So, the debate is not around prohibiting tech advancement, but what substantially inflates ability over natural skill development. Go on build technique and muscles and whack that ball hard and it's fair enough. But currently in Pickleball, you can just buy yourselves power and spin with dollar. So to simplify for you, it's not that tech is being used, but more so where and how it's being used. There's so much these companies can work on before adding raw power. We are not even talking about recycling etc.
I mean, technique and athleticism have a direct correlation to your skill rating, but I do not mind having a few percentages of an advantage from technology. You wanna talk about pay to play? Golf is insane. It’s so hard to be good without spending money on good equipment, or a custom fitting.
The game is not about the paddle. I've never been one of these people who secretly wish pickleball was more like tennis. The paddle is a tool. Playability is great, especially if it spans the control and power spectrum. But steroids are not great. Perhaps all these new foam paddles should be endorsed by Mark McGwire.
Luca, your presentation is first class. Very professional and a cut above the other YT reviewers. Nice job on this and all your other videos.
Thank you very much!

Man, That was an amazing summary on all the paddle technologies . Beautiful presentation.
I'm glad you found it helpful!
Luca is the best and it's not even close
Ahaha thank you!

Thats what they do for golf drivers and softball bats.
@@RM-pu2mv yeah. They need to add a speed parameter and problem solved. The fun part of Pickleball has always been anyone could pick it up.
It should be that simple, yup...
You forgot to mention us! We add titanium and foam into the core!
Been playing with the ProStar the last couple of days. Really liking it.
@@sol1280 glad you’re liking it!:) feel free to reach out to us anytime.👽
Looking close at the Pro Star. Wish your warranty was better. 30 day, no questions, w/o any "re-stock" fee would do it for me.

We're trying to bring them in but struggling a bit with Paddletek. As soon as they're in I'll make a video about them though.
Great summary. The best I've heard.

You're welcome!
The Elongated Gearbox Pro Power Pickleball paddle is a game changer.
Raphael is a genius.
What grips are you using for the paddles? The bright teal is nice.
Head Prime Pro Teal! Very similar to Wilson Pro and Yonex Super Grap

Honolulu will be coming out with its own Titanium paddle named the J2Ti I’m hyped to get my hands on it being a J2K player!
Yes, hopefully it's great!

You should check out the neonic flare 16mm as it will also be a titanium weave and it should be pretty great paddle
Thermoform is heavier too. I like Kevlar hot press.
Is it better to have a wider paddle or a longer paddle ?
Personal choice
need help looking for my next paddle, shogun or j2k? j2kTi? am using vatic pro prism flash rgiht now and i use 2 hands back hand..tia :)
I would suggest going for something with a longer handle than the J2K and J2Ti if you use a two-hander. The Shogun is a great option.
Thanks for the reply. J7k or J7k pro or the shoguns. Sorry for asking too much questions 😊😊
Great job bro. I really like your analysis.
Thank you!
I'd like to see a company try to make a paddle with the material called D30.
???? Need to check out D30.
great explanation
Where are you getting your information regarding why the Joola Gen 3 paddles were banned?
Foam will kill the fun out of the hands battle. Has there been any Pros who used the Gearbox Pro? Just curious
Can you do a review on the head boom racial paddle???

I haven't played with them, unfortunately.

Mark my word, diamond coated topsheet is coming.
Doesn't Prokennex claim this?
That would make sense but how expensive is it going to be??
@@RacketsandRunnersPickleball when you don’t have to change paddle each tournament….it’ll even out some.
How long ago was this made? All 3s models are out

I started the point a little later than usual but it actually starts with my return not my serve.
Kevlar rocks!
Foam is good, it just needs to be used properly. As for how to be reasonable, this requires detailed rules.
Yes, this "Wild West" vibe is fun right now but we can't have another situation like what just happened.
If I use foam paddles for friendly pickup pickleball games, are folks going to dislike me?
What about EVA? 😊
It's way too hot. I have several.
I thought it was too intense and haven't played with one in a while.
Not really metal titanium.. my research say PET .. pet fibers that look like Titanium.
