I can't speak for what happened exactly, but I do know that sometimes, they end a sketch on TV for time purposes even though it goes longer in person. Perhaps this is one of those times? Or maybe they just really didn't know how to end it.

The joke was that he was right. The photo was Jean-Michel Basquiat, but he conceeded to her (a Black woman) that it was The Weekend, because of his White Guilt, that he couldn't name any of the historical persons in his previous round. it ended where it was intended to end.
Not your fault. At all. If you've seen the show, you quickly realize that the "categories" can be incredibly vague. One person had "Simpsons Actors" which consisted of pictures of actors who voiced characters on the show--NOT pictures of the characters themselves. This included guest spots, and people who played themselves. So random.

Vocally, maybe. Appearance-wise, Rob Lowe is supposed to look like the illegitimate son of Charles Rocket (Lowe has the square jawline and piercing blue eyes that Charles Rocket had). Michael Longfellow looks more like Cecily Strong's long-lost brother, with Norm Macdonald's dry humor and Bill Hader's penchant for playing sadistic game show hosts (and strangely, can play Bill Hader when he's not playing weird characters or doing spot-on celebrity impressions).
It just shows you what a good guy Shane is. even though he got fired from this place he still puts shine on the SNL crew by letting them do a show with him.

That’s why it’s the first time I didn’t find his lines funny. Being a professional doesn’t mean sitting on the show. Look at Shane’s character in the eye and take the high road. He didn’t connect with his lines at all, rushed to get them out and off the stage.
