As a former MPB employee and photographer.... i can absolutely only recommend MPB... almost everyone working there is either a photographer, was a photographer or loves cameras... i think MPBs biggest customer is the employees... i remember every month on payday half of the Berlin office would spend a big chunk on stuff in the warehouse.... We once got GRII in... and we literally had to lottery it off because so many people wanted it.... i personally almost went crazy when a influencer had a Fuji X70 on loan and it was the only one we had and none came in and he took forever to give it back because i wanted it so bad

"buy the cool one" is very good advice for most ordinary photography applications. I love my epl-7, but it's because it's the coolest camera I can afford. I'd much prefer an x-pro 3, even though my bigger olympus pro camera does so much more. It's just not as cool :)

I can say for sure the em1 mark iii is a wicked good camera, but I don't use it as much as the epl-7 because it's that much less cool. I really hope OM system make something similar that has retro charm and a more modern sensor with a focus on photography over videography. Fuji and leica have proved there is a market for this, although I think the pen f basically failed at the time. Perhaps everyone was too worried about "full frame" and spec sheets, but that seems to be waning a little now.

    1:30 Where are the Leica I/II/III ??
For sure they are not the easiest to handle for a beginner but as far as getting access to the Leica build quality for a cheap price (for the common models like a IIIc) they are hard to beat. They really are some marvel of build construction and mechanisms, just holding them and using the controls is an experience worth it. And for sure their limitations and difficulties to use doesn't make them the most obvious choice for a beginner but it's a good way to take the time to think about the pictures you take and focus on what/why/how.

Well, never used a Leica but what I can tell is that the M9 might have my favorite color science of all the cameras, that is to say if DXO Photolab camera body color profiles are accurate. Just yesterday processed all my recent a6000 raws with it with stunning results (same with all my other camera bodies). Stunning skin tones amazing blues and greens. I wonder if I would like to use a real Leica. Not long ago became friends with a guy from our church who works at the official Leica shop in our country, and used to have the first shop who imported in our country every kind of film emulation under the sun, knows everything about analog film industry and Leica cameras and small telescopes in general. We talked for hours. He also invited me to the shop, might accept the invitation in the near future :)
But when it comes to me owning a Leica I remember the words from the famous song from Camera Conspiracies ("All I Want is the Perfect Camera") ,,Leica! I'm trying to decide between an SL or a golden house with a lot of diamonds that I have to water with champagne...." :))))

Very entertaining video 🙂. And you almost got the recommendation right! I'd just go with the M-262 because it's an M-240 without video, and a bit cheaper. It's also full-frame so it's easier to get a decent wide angle for it, if you want to. But, really, best to start out on something digital that allows full manual everything, while seeing what you're doing in your viewfinder. If you don't have the basics down, an M is probably very frustrating.

the biggest (maybe only) advantage of a rangefinder is that you can see beyond what the lens sees... that's the reason they're so popular among street photographers... you can see what walk into your frame before it is in your frame... you can prepare the shot without taking your eye off the rangefinder.... also you can shoot with both eyes open and see even more...
Some people prefer focusing with a rangefinder but i use my Leica almost exclusively with zone focusing so i barely even use the actual rangefinder of the rangefinder at all
Also atleast back before mirrorless took over... Rangefinder cameras had the advantage that they didn't need a mirror making them significantly smaller and lighter than SLR

The best "Leica" for beginners, if we're talking 35mm film, is a Minolta CLE. Arguably it was better in most ways than the popular Leica models, uses m-mount, and has a great 40mm lens that's usually included with a lot of sales. If we're talking beginners in digital, some of the early TL bodies, I guess? I have 2 CL's that I love, but I got them when they were at the lowest value or at an estate sale as part of an entire table of "random items" being sold. I got both for around 850, the estate one was complete with box. I also have an M10-D that I would say is probably the only "true" Leicas if you use the weak argument of "less is more" and the "experience" is what you're paying for. The M10-D was also dirt cheap for me that I got from a friend with more money than sense that wanted the "analogue digital" experience before figuring out they didn't, buying an X-Pro3 (that I also ended up with that I sold for a Pen F special with the script F on it) and now settling on an X100VI after upgrading from the X100V that replaced the X-Pro3. I say "I guess?" for the TL's because unless you want to spend a fortune on Leica TL APS-C glass for a dead system, you'll probably be shooting mostly Sigma like me with m-mount adapted lenses being a solid option. I would just get a fp or fp L for m-mount personally if you don't want crop and still want a tiny package and good image quality.
Honestly, even for digital I would just buy an Olympus E-P5 or Lumix GX85/GX9, throw on a PanaLeica 15mm f1.7 or 25mm f1.4, and have a fun time taking photos. Use the saved small fortune to find interesting subjects/locations.

buy the cool one really does work as good advice I originally brought my x100f because it look cool to me I didn't need it I had other good cameras [to many cameras] and that eventually led me to my x100vi and a couple of Ricoh's which may end up as one Ricoh but Leica oh I wish I dream:-)

Would you choose the pixxi over the leica 8. ?

It depends on your budget, usage and what type of photographer you are. IMO, very few should be in a position where they need to choose between the two.

X-Pro 1. What lens would you get for the “3D Pop”. Auto focus. I’m old.

I honestly think... no analogue leica is great for beginners... while i have learned photography from the basics of the camera to then taking pictures i don't think that's necessairy or the best way.... i think the most important thing... which i believe is composition should be focused on.... leaving a camera in full automatic is absolutely fine these days.... Leica for me are more about the "feeling" of shooting... i freaking love my M4.... but it's a camera i use because it's been in my family for 6 decades... it's a camera i use because it's fun to play around and experiment with... it absolutely can produce the most astonishing and amazing and professional pictures out there.... but for professional work i always use a Hassy or P1 and for test shoots i use a Pana S1R... while analogue cameras are in no way inferior to their digital counterpart and i would argue especially 6x6, 6x7 and 6x8 still offer HUGE benefits when it comes to resolution, depth of field etc.... having grown up with film it feels like analogue is just photography with extra steps.... now i enjoy those extra steps.... but it doesn't make my pictures any better or worse than with any other camera

Agree, though if it was me, I'd save a little more and get a full frame (M9/ME) as then the lens will do what it says on the tin. (50mm on M8 is 75mm eqv, so thats too long for a starter lens) Great vid by the way

If there is one thing that beginners should simply ignore imo, then it is the “equivalent” nonsense :)
