    OSRS has never been the same for me after I bought my first 500m. Item drops didn't feel rewarding anymore, picking up alchs worth 50k felt kinda pointless. I originally bought it to get raiding gear and it was fun for a while but it ultimately drove me away from playing. I sold it all off after a while and made a hcim, was the one thing that got me back in to the game.

I had to actually stop playing because I no longer had a "fear" of just running around at night. The game lost all fun and didn't even know it was a cheat before it happened.

      You have to factor in the buying price of gold. If we take the example they used of $100 sale to a player, having to buy the gold for $80 is only a $20 margin. It might not be exactly accurate and will fluctuate, but there's an equilibrium where bulk sellers would be better off doing it themselves(like he even mentioned with hiring people). Add in the costs of wages and other overhead, a 17% margin is actually really good. In the US, that's a very healthy profit margin to work with

    If you dig into the company info for many gold sellers they're established as a limited partnership based in Scotland. This subsidiary is joint owned by two companies usually based in Delaware or Wisconsin - states which are ideal for shell companies.
    I won't go into the legal and accounting side of this, but it's a classic tax avoidance front. I highly doubt the majority of them pay correct taxes with company structures like that.

    I don't think runescape would end without RWT, it would adapt. The economy would crash and stabilize with most things being MUCH cheaper, so that playing normally actually gives enough GP to buy high end stuff. Things would change a lot and there might be some growing pains, but I think in the end things would be better for legit players.

    All Jagex has to do to put a significant dent in RWT is slash the prices on bonds. We all know the primary concern of Jagex with RWT is that THEY are not the ones making money from it. Concerns about the RS economy are tertiary.

    • @gamzer9954
      @gamzer9954 2 года назад +1

      This would have the reverse effect. It would drive down the price of unofficial sellers, requiring them to bot more to maintain their profits. You'd reduce their margins but not significantly enough to benefit Jagex or the playerbase.

    • @lennysmileyface
      @lennysmileyface 2 года назад

      The problem with that is that the price of bonds in game would go down too until you get the same ratio of $:GP as before if Jagex cut the price.

    I like how RuneScape is getting told off by the government yet the child casino website (aka Roblox) is still running strong. Basically the same issue over there as here, RWT, ramped gambling, and millions of complaints from parents, yet they can push it under the rug saying “oh we’re a kids game there’s no gambling here :)” same issue different mask. then ofc all the MTX stuff like cosmetics and treasure hunter. Sometimes charity related things have bonds tied to them, you can unlock certain things by using 1-3 bonds and Jagex claims that the profits are going to the charity. Bonds right now in RS3 are +42mil

    I made it the end. Very fascinating to hear about the payment processor issues as someone who is familiar with disputes from the banking side. I don't agree that the game will totally die if you kill RWT. I think that prices for items will go way up which may incentivize players who suddenly have boosted bank values to play more in the legitimate fashion. Its new until I get to place xyz and then my memory comes back to me😂. I'm 30 today. I stop playing runescape around when a sara god sword was 40 mil.
    I'm looking for someone who played back in the day too. I had a real life friend who had a good friend on runescape. He stole a party hat from him. Green I believe. He told him he just wanted to take a screen shot in it. They were friends for more than a year or 2.. When he got the phat he logged and blocked him. The player who stole the party hats name was Korn Dog 4. I lost sleep over this. I felt so bad for the guy. He probably cried real tears. I tried to get the phat in my possession so I could give it back to him. It didnt work. Me and korn dog were always around the same level. Until the phat. He sold that phat, bought a cheaper one, and still had 200+ mil to put into his character. He bought 20k+ law runes multiple times and got 94 magic.

    Being a broker definitely sounds like the way to go with this type of business, but you obviously need a large reputation to be able to supply the gold when the demand comes up if you don’t sit on gold yourself.
    But yeah this way nobody feels like they’re getting scammed when, in reality, they probably are LOL you sell the gold for the price you want while buying it for the cheapest price elsewhere. Interesting interview.

      Oldschool has prepared for this for years, that is why iron man modes were introduced so they could get estimation of actual players. Also osrs team really wants to bring runescape back to it's golden age, so what removal of duel arena will cause is the revival of PVP, no more gold farming bots, etc. The benefits are so huge that it is most likely going to be revival of runescape.

This is what makes most top level players quit as well, RS don't care about the vets a lot of the time which is sad. If you disagree where's the 07 15 year vet cape at?

    Most of the WoW bots would just use your abilities for you in combat, like revolution in rs3, some would fish and some would farm materials but that was about it!
