The questions and issues of 63 years ago have not gone away. Abba Eban was one of kind. Very few were as intelligent and as eloquent as he was.

What a command of the facts. I love how he responded to the comment by the head of the Bank of Egypt; " I find his concern for us rather touching." And about the rabbi who didn't approve "I'm rather too occupied with my duties to follow this gentleman." In other words, who is that guy, anyway?" Eban was a statesman`s statesman, always on the ball.
Wonderful. ...And, sadly, reminds us how little had changed vis-a-vis the Arab League states & affiliates since 1958.
Its funny how some Arab economist predicted the financial downfall of Israel due to its lack of resources and its trade deficit but here we are almost 60 years later and Israel thrives while most of the Arab world struggles, could it be a country's greatness has less to do with resources and more to do with the culture , work ethic, and form of government it puts into place?
That Arab economist overlooked Israel's greatest natural resource: its people.
Worth watching considering today's BDS movement.

Yiddishe kop indeed. When he first appeared at the Cambridge Debating Union in the 1930s, the President of the Union thought he was being funny by questing his ability to speak English. Eban promptly addressed the Union in fluent French!

As Abba Eben speaks for himself very well. Let me comment on my impression on Mike Wallace. I see in this interview his was NOT sympathetic to the idea of Jewish state. I thought he was a bit anti-Semite then I glanced at his bio. So I conclude at least here, he displays jewish self hate, not surprisingly.
Wallace had no anti-semitic tendencies. He was a contrarian journalist, seeking to expose the weaknesses in others' arguments.
