Seeing this is almost upsetting, because you realize how much work and love goes into every tiny detail, but at the same time you know it will never be fully understood or appreciated by the public! Most adults wouldn't even bother watching the movie just because it's animated, so it must be a "kid's movie", and the children who see it won't realize how much work it takes to create all of this.
I totally agree... like it's really a shame that most adults won't watch it bc they think it's a "kid's movie" ?!?! like how does it being animated mean it strictly has to be a kid's movie.. they just assume which really sucks and I wish more people would really care about all the detail that was put into this movie

These people are insane! The level of detail they put into the motion and the sets and everything would drive most people mad. I tip my hat to their commitment.
And here I was, thinking that this was an funny looking CGI movie. Boy, was I wrong. This is art in its full magnificent beauty! My deepest respects to the creators of this masterpiece.
How great it must be for the riggers, costumers, painters, and all those people who didnt actually animate, to finally go and see the amazing result in theaters.
I was nearly halfway through the the video, fully immersed, before realizing it had no audio, this prove that it's visual beauty alone is breathtaking on its own.
Patrycja Milewska Yup. :) A lot of the time, even when you study sculpture, you have to learn some drawing skills for draft purposes, proportion, and layout. It helps to see what you're making before you start sculpting. And not to mention concept artists, which are always needed. Just because it's not hand drawn animation, doesn't mean they don't need illustrators. :)

It doesn't, though. It's subtle, but your brain notices these sorts of things... the physicality of an object is something CG cannot replicate. CG has to work harder to imply a weight to its elements, though, and I'd say some of this stop-motion reads as oddly weightless...
it's definatly a good thing when you watch behind the scence before watch the movie because deep down inside you know how AWESOME and HARDWORKING this team had made to make a EXQUISE MOVIE by STOP MOTION STYLE ! my mind is blown, seriously I amazed..
Brick Blockus at least their setting, characters and the movement of characters were stopmotion, even if it is cgi, it doesn't mean that traditional styles are dead
Does anyone know what the book is that is being used around 7:33? I can't find it online, so I can only assume it's some sort of bespoke manual that Laika have produced especially for their employees from the way the animator seems to be using it.
Hola Alfonso Lucas, gracias por responder. Entonces deben de ser los moldes de un previo trabajo en barro o otro material de escultor. Gracias por la información tomo nota :). Yo también me llamo Lucas, un saludo tocayo.
L. B. Surreal I'm not Spanish, (common mistake), but I'm glad I helped you. And you're also Lucas! Small world. If you're wondering, I'm Portuguese. :)
This blows my mind. I'll forever have respect and admiration for stop motion animators.
only those who understand it, will appreciate it
me too
Thank you! :D My stop motions aren't that good jet but even so it's a hard work.

Audrey Livingston
plus the story and everything is great. It's just beautiful in every way!
I will never ever stop going to see these movies in theatre. I may even go see this again. This level of craft has to be supported!

My jaw was wide open the entire time. These artists deserve way more credit.

I could just spend HOURS looking at the water!
O_O This kind of stuff is why I want to be an animator! This is insanely beautiful!!! *_*
I know! Isn't it just mind-blowing?!! This is why I want to be an animator as well. ^^
Alyssa S Hmmmm.. Maybe we shall work on a project together one day if our paths meet! :D Animators for the win!!!
2CuteMadHatter same, I wonder if drawing is needed in laika

Oh, thanks😊 how do you know all that?
The Most Beautiful stop-motion animated story I'd ever seen...'super-kudos' to the team.
This dude who made kubo is absolutely amazing . It looks like cgi , that says enough
Absolutely amazing- the detail and and effort is phenomimal
The amount of effort in this is almost frightening!
just the amount of work that goes into these movies neverceases to amaze
8:37 creates wonderful things AND wears cute cat socks :')
12:06 if laika could make that into a desk toy, they would win all the money
I'm second-hand exhausted.

it looks so good that it doesn't look like stopmotion any more, which I don't think is a good thing. it looks like your generic cgi movie.

What? This feels so much like stop motion it makes me sick! In a good way. :)

i admire the time and effort and love put into this process but darn i wish they spend more time on the plot too
work of art, work of love
This is actually a silent documentary of super-humans at work. It's incredible. Just - wow.
This is pure art!
Does anyone know what the book is that is being used around 7:33? I can't find it online, so I can only assume it's some sort of bespoke manual that Laika have produced especially for their employees from the way the animator seems to be using it.
Joss Gilligan
I think it's just a notepad and he's reading from his notes - My best guess.
Absolutely incredible!!

Oh thank god i'm not the only one!
For a moment there I thought my headphones weren't working.
It's so cool

An animator's work is a slow business.

8 people are Michael bay fans
How are some of these professions called
those where you build those figures and evironments
set design, character design, model sculptors (stuff like that)
I feel bad for those who don not believe in teamwork.
Couldn’t have added music or something?
No sound?
Làm phim này cực quá nhỉ, sao họ ko làm bằng vi tính luôn cho khoẻ nhỉ :)
oh I saw dragonframe here
what patience
These people must have a lot of time.

Voice acting seems nothing after watching all this making of
even cgi can't compare to this...i think.
Ho lam cong phu qua

Why is that shit cheap studios like illumination finds success and not the deserved ones like laika?
