A brand like JHS would do well to have someone like yourself as a paid consultant. You have an outstanding understanding of what you hear and why you're hearing it. For many channels it's little more than a collection of adjectives to sound knowledgeable but on this channel it comes from raw enthusiasm overlayed with some real in depth expertise. Good for you Mark
Mark, great video! One note that is important for your viewers to know about this pedal is when you combine this pedal with a HSS configuration (humbucker & single coil) guitar you have a whole world of more options. With the gain knob between 10 and 11 o'clock with a tiny slight mid boost, switching to the neck pickup gets an amazingly brilliant clean sparkle sound that you can control with the volume knob on the guitar to get more or less break up, but then when you flip the guitar to the humbucker you get a much more aggressive distortion that you can still control somewhat with the guitar volume knob, but if you want to go back to clean just switch to the single coil pickup without having to change the pedal settings.
This pedal sounds great and your intro tracks are what keep me coming back every video… amazing melodies, riffs, playing and production! Thank you. JHS, please get Mark on!
Excellent demo! I’d love for them to put out a clean / low gain pedal with this feature set. The Violet doesn’t seem able to do a clean boost even with the gain way down, there’s still a lot of distortion there.
That intro track...brilliant as always. I was hoping you'd review this one, since I knew you'd cover the low-to-mid gain range, and the full range of the mid control. Thank you!
Mark. I found this pedal to be really specific when JHS did their video on this one. Didn't think at all this is something i would be interested in but they did mention the Morning Glory sounds. That left me super curious with nowhere to turn. As someone who falls somewhere on the autistic spectrum, i fully enjoyed the detail you presented here (like all of your videos) Your videos leave me completely satisfied on all my decisions and there isn't any questions to be asked after. To me that is huge! I didn't get Chicago style blues....Frank Zappa.....Bill Frisell ideas from The JHS video......with yours i immediately though of a ton of possibilities 😊 In my opinion, you are what every pedal company out there needs. I'll be sure to let them know that it was you who made me purchase their product. Safe travels my friend.
i love this pedal for the mid freq especially. like having a flavour that i could get a boogie tone out of my friedman IR-D. get the right frequency and boost or cut would get you really close. It's a sound engineer/guitarist dream.
Mark, I appreciate this video! It's awesome. I recently bought a Kilt, then a week later I saw the JHS video about The Violet. Now I own both.... for the moment at least. Can't decide. Thoughts on stacking? idk. I know I've got to figure it out myself, but your thoughts would still be appreciated.
They should realy just add an additional boost foot switch to this to act as a secondary drive pedal hitting the main unit. Achieving a lead boost type scenario, Cause youd want to have two of these ideally for gain stacking.
@ prototype is probably the best way to describe it. I get SO many messages about it and I basically just tell everyone “go hassle Jennings about making it a standard offering on Instagram”
I said JHS excels at two things, the second being collaboration pedals like the artificial blonde as well as signature drives they’ve done. Never said it was.
Yeah it sucks to be very clear about what gear is being used so that people have an accurate and complete picture of what they’re hearing. Especially in on a platform that lets you skip ahead in the video.
Lol your response has more si,zle than the pedal! Keep doing what you are doing, your videos are always a welcome notification for me!@markjohnstonofficial

Well that’s super kind of you to say. Thank you

Listening to your voice is almost just as pleasant an experience as hearing you play the guitar. And just as convincing.
Another great demo! 🧡

as always, excellent video. I watch you, not just for the reviews, but to learn how to listen to, and describe, audio.
Awesome intro, the perfect lunch accompaniment. 🎉❤
Definitely looking to snag one of these! Really loving the sounds!
absolutely killer sound in the beginning track man
Mark.

Killer playing on this one, Mark.
amazing tones, thanks
Mark.
I'm hearing Chicago style blues in there. No?
Also. Is this a Bill Frisell pedal?
Love love love your videos!

Can not wait
It sounds great and your demo is really good. Do you think can do JHS AT+ sound?

As a predominantly jazz player….i am super excited by this pedal. Especially to get clean dirt.
Jazz and blues for sure😊

kicking myself for not lifting that bass when I had the chance...
You really missed your chance. This bass is everything.
@@markjohnstonofficial Is the bass custom made? A prototype? It's not on their website. Looks super cool

Artificial Blonde not a drive pedal tho
I said JHS excels at two things, the second being collaboration pedals like the artificial blonde as well as signature drives they’ve done. Never said it was.
@ ah ok, my bad I misunderstood. totally agree with you tho! They do excel at those two things.
Hearing this.....
I hear raunchy Chicago style blues.
Like Houndog
oh cool, so what is it a clone of?
it's not
FFS, enough with the “workflow.”
